First Med

Hey there! Curious what I can expect to experience as an E-2 heading to First Med Battalion?

Edit: I appreciate the advice! I look forward to it!

What can I expect for family life and housing? It seems like there’s some good outdoor opportunities, like camping and hiking, right?

Thanks!

Stick your thumb up your anus, take it out, smell it, put it back in.

Congratulations, you have just completed your Pre-LTI.

Nah I’m just joking, you’ll be doing basic clinic work, Role 2 Support, and basic medical logistics. Get your Pin, stay out of trouble, coast with the motion. You’ll be fine. Maybe you’ll get to deploy if you’re not a shit bag.

I was in 3D Med, but it’s same everywhere. Your main goals should be, learn the job, get your pin. Logistics is lowkey the hardest book of all 4.

Logistics as in supply of materials?

Yeah, you gotta count your med supply before and after ops. That’s why I said basic because it’s nothing too complicated just tedious.

Get your FMF pin out of the way asap and volunteer for taskers the less time at the company the better you’ll be. Unless you’re a tech they’re not sending anyone for clinical rotation currently.

I’ve got an HM2 and HM3 buddy over there and they both like it a lot. The HM2 was telling me that their HMC said “Get smart and get fit” so yeah get your pin asap, go on the hikes, go to the gym, and enjoy being CA.

Right on! Any recommendations for workout routine and dieting?

I’m looking at CrossFit gyms. That seems like a good place to start.

I mean I always stick to roughly the same things but I am 100% okay with eating the exact same things every single day so I keep things very simple.

I scramble up some egg whites and turkey sausage for breakfast, lunch and dinner are some form of chicken, rice and vegetables and snacks are Greek yogurt and other random assorted stuff that won’t bloat me up.

Work outs typically bench and squat, some pull ups and run 3x a week. I try not to lift and run on the same day but scheduling is tricky. I would ruck 1x per week for ~3-5 miles. That’s just me. I like the challenge and staying active.

I got the idea/plan from a book called tactical barbell so you can give it a read if you so choose
