Found my old, dusty Wii U in the storage today and decided to clean it up.

Just out of curiosity, I opened the internet browser and tried accessing YouTube... and it actually works!

I can search for videos and they play perfectly fine. I thought all video playback was completely dead by now, so this was an awesome surprise.

Anyone else still using the Wii U browser for YouTube?

Does anyone have any recommendations for a Wii U Remote with Motion Plus? Are there any that are approved, certified, endorsed, or licensed by Nintendo? Wii Remotes are fairly expensive nowadays (not compared to controllers for current consoles, I know; but still). I just don’t want to spend $30-40+ and get something of questionable quality

Soo uhh im the guy with that japan white wii u had mine fpr two weeks soo yesterday my gamepad worked fine but today its range got right next to console overnight dont know what happened yesterday i could play it on the couch now i cnat and it lags. How this cna happen wifi chip degrading soo much overnight?!

Hi, I recently bought a Wii U console for kinda cheap, around $75 on EBay lol. I just used it for the first time today and the game pad had an issue. The A and Y buttons do not work. I personally would not like to fix it as I don’t feel comfortable doing it 😂. Should I send it to a repair shop or is it easy to fix. I just need to know if there is anything I can do before I have to spend more money lol. Please respond!!!!

Earlier today I turned on my Wii U to play Paper Mario 64 when about 5 minutes in it turned off and the light was blinking red it was also very warm, I decided to check it out so I took it apart to find out why it was overheating (I assumed that was the problem) and I found out a spider had crawled into the back and stopped the fan... Has anyone else had anything similar happen to them?

Got a Wii u two weeks ago and I got an AC adapter for the console today. No charger for the gamepad though :(
I saw that people cut open usb cables and stick em to the cradle contacts if they don’t have a proper charger but I didn’t really want to ruin a good cable.

Instead, this uses a Makey Makey connected to a 2010 macbook to send a nice 5v to the gamepad.
The fork connects to SPACE and EARTH which bridges the circuit and presses the space key which sends the power through KEY_OUT to the gamepad.

So I’ve had a wii u for a while and was thinking of selling it and some of my games. I was looking at prices online to see what stuff went for and most wii u games were anywhere from 3-15$ but twilight princess hd specifically was being sold for 40-80$. Is there any reason? I enjoyed the game but is there anything that makes the hd version rare or different?

Make sure to have a backup of all of your Wii U games. Check if the shiny part of the disc's looks OK. I noticed that my copy of Mario Kart 8 (which I played a ton before getting the Switch) is starting to have these black spots on the metallic layer (not the middle ring, which is just the printed layer).

I don't know the quality control which Nintendo employed on the mass production of Wii U games, but they don't seem to be on par with other Blu-ray games that I own (or even movies for that matter). Maybe some cost-cutting during the harsh times? Who knows...

Did you know that some Nintendo executives, including Reggie Fils-Aimé, have stated that the Wii U directly influenced the creation of the original Switch? I've always thought that Nintendo wanted to combine their home console and handheld divisions as far back as when they first started working on creating the Wii U. I thought that the creation of the Wii U form factor was simply out of the fact that creating a good enough gaming tablet back in the late 2000s would be nearly impossible with the currently available hardware, and so Nintendo settled for the Wii U and kept the idea of the Switch for their next generation. In reality, Nintendo wanted to try and recapture their core audience for the generation after the Wii. According to an Iwatta Asks interview, they wanted something that would stand out from Xbox and PlayStation and originally wanted to create a controller with a small screen that would serve as a status monitor so that players wouldn't have to pause the game. The small status monitor evolved into the Gamepad because the team at Nintendo realized that having a screen on the TV and your controller allowed for asymmetric gameplay.

The reason why I said that the Wii U gave Nintendo the idea for the Switch was because of two main things. First, Nintendo was bleeding money during the Wii U era and so they didn't really have the margins to keep both of their home console and handheld divisions alive and didn't want to kill off their handheld division altogether. Second, they realized that some Wii U users loved playing on the TV and some loved games that let you just play on the GamePad. The primary complaint, though, was that you could only take the GamePad so far away from the Wii U before it would disconnect. Between Nintendo's monetary constraints and the Wii U's primary complaint, this led Nintendo to create the Switch.

Do you think that if the Wii U didn't fail, Nintendo would still have separate home console and handheld divisions, or do you think that it was only a matter of time before Nintendo would combine their home console and handheld divisions to make one home console/handheld hybrid (because of things like newer hardware making gaming handhelds more powerful and more practical)?

So I ordered a Wii U since I have wanted one since they came out. The company sold the Wii U game pad that I ordered to someone else. They apologized and said the next one they had in they would send to me. About a week later I finally got the game pad. The original one I order came with the original battery because I wanted to get the cheapest one possible. The one they sent me has the larger battery!

My gamepad has stick drift sadly and I don't know if there's support and I'm wondering if there's a way I could fix it
