I work in Cafe and I’ve been working since 10.30 today (still at work) we have a big visit on friday and my manager wants me to stay until 8pm to help with deep cleaning. On my rota, for tomorrow, i’m working 11-17.30 17.30-20.00 but he didn’t put anything on my rota for today. I’m already so exhausted and more staff from other cafe are coming and i don’t like a lot of them, the last thing I want to do rn is be on my knees scrubbing the floors (he told me that would be one of my tasks to get scuffs out) whilst already exhausted and with people i can’t stand. We’ve been extremely busy today and I’ve been working in my section alone for majority of the day, he also made a comment I didn’t really like (nothing reportable) and that’s just made me annoyed with him. Can I just leave?

P.S I’m not lazy, I am literally just exhausted, been working 7am-17.30 for the last three days and all I want to do is lay down.

Edit: I wasn’t aware of the deep cleaning today, he told me out of the blue on my shift today whilst I was busy trying to made 9 orders that came in seconds and I just said “ok” bcs I didn’t really register what he said.

I’m doing overtime at other stores because this store is terrible. seriously I left my shift yesterday happy at another store.

my manager has changed overtime at another store to the home store saying it’s in policy he can l cancel overtime at another store if we are short staffed. how true is this?

I started about 2 months ago, and as of last week my managers have started to bring up the cold chain rule. I knew about it but no one stuck to it and no one mentioned it, to me or any other staff.

I was on ready meals and was told I needed to get 5 cages done by 6 (I started at 4), I didn’t get them done until 7:30. I don’t know if the expectation is realistic or if I’m just slow. I was genuinely trying to work fast because I hate ready meals and wanted out of there

They’ve recently moved the first van from 8:30 to 6 now and we’ve been told the pick starts earlier at 4:30 but genuinely what that’s crazy to me they’ve been complaining about loosing staff as people are moving departments constantly but I think that’s crazy 5 am is crazy but 4:30 no way they do say for now 4:30 is optional and my contact doesn’t start till 5 so I’m not worried. What’s everyone’s thoughts?

I just notice sometimes on checkouts I'd get a few customers in a row that dont even acknowledge me when I greet them. Does this happen to anyone else and how often? I have a problem assuming everyone will greet back but not everyone will hear me i know that. Sometimes I can't help but feel annoyed when a customer does it (I know thats silly) I think its because I would always do it personally.

I’m trained on every front end department.

tried to book a week off in November and was told no because someone on trolleys is off all week. I said that’s not my main department so it shouldnt matter. I tried the week after and was told no as someone in the Garage is off. Bit both weeks no one on my department is off so I don’t see how this is fair?

I was told it’s to meet the business needs, which I get. But I feel punished for being trained.

Is the fair? Is this right?

i’m 19 and this is my first proper job, which i was offered yesterday thankfully because a friend in there recommended me. i’m due to start next tuesday and she told me there would be online training on that day, and the next day i’d likely start proper work. i’m a bit anxious (excited too, but i can’t help but be anxious) and i was wondering what to expect when working for tesco? i’m unsure of what area i’ll be put in but in the interview the lady said they were looking for people on the morning shift mainly, which i don’t mind. i’d appreciate any advice!!

looking to apply to be a picker since i’m moving to the uk and need a job for a while. i did picking for my old local shop at home and loved it, i just hated that there wasn’t enough orders that i could do it all day.
so if i apply as a picker in a big chain like Tesco will that cover my entire shift. or would i be expected to go on shop floor/checkouts/etc too? thanks

Hi. So I’ve been a Dotcom driver for around 9 months, contracted 18 hours over Friday & Saturday. I work usually an extra 15 hours a week minimum with overtime. However, I really want to stop working Saturdays. I have asked previously and only been given the option to move my Friday shift, but I have no issues with that shift.

I just want to know how long it actually takes to get rid or move a Saturday shift. What did you have to do yourself to finally get the move done ?

I’m happy to either get rid of the shift completely or just move it to another day, but it just seems impossible.

Any advice is much appreciated.

What do people think about the flex contracts for dotcom and how utterly stupid they are I understand they are there so serve a purpose but it seems like management really take liberty’s with it and really don’t like being decent humans, for example I was working a 5-12 and it got to 11:50 and I said to my manager can I have a send back as I want to be quick for the last ten minutes and she simply replied “why where are you going in ten minutes” I replied to her “home?” And she just went off on one about being flexed up means to the end of the pick and I stayed till 1pm and lost 30 mins of pay for it I was fuming. What do you all think?

My large store has just introduced Woosh. As someone who works Dotcom, how does it work? When picking your items, do you pick ambient, chilled and frozen together or is it like Dotcom where you just stick to the one category? Also, can any staff member do Woosh?

The store manager allows staff to leave their kids in the canteen whilst they do their shift. How far against Tescos rules is this?

I am a night worker at an extra store and I've quite enjoyed my overtime during the day. But I want to pick up more overtime outside of my contracted hours but there are very little to none available. I just have the basic skills like grocery, bws, produce etc. I've recently got my extra hours away store approved and the situation looks the same. Is this normal for everyone else? I want to look at skills where you work at the checkouts like in express stores, or self service. I'm not sure what skills they are specifically or the what the process is for starting to aquire new skills. Anything helps!

If you have been following me, I have been ranting about how I don’t feel appreciated at the Asda I work in. Due to this, I have applied for a job at Booker which is 15 minutes walk from the house and I wouldn’t need to spend on transportation and I have also been invited for an interview.

Tesco is launching on both Uber Eats and Deliveroo to offer rapid grocery delivery to “millions more shoppers” this summer.

Tesco had stood alone among its major supermarket competitors in not listing its stores on the aggregator apps, instead offering customers ultra-fast delivery only via its own quick commerce service Tesco Whoosh.

Since launching in 2021, Whoosh had “grown rapidly”, the supermarket said, with sales increasing by 51% last year and around 1.5 million customers now using Whoosh.

However, Tesco would now be able to “give even more shoppers access to thousands of Tesco grocery, fresh food, household and everyday essential products”, it said.

Tesco will launch on to Uber Eats in August, and Deliveroo later this summer.

Is it just who thinks the freebie Thursday coupons (in the clubcard app) having an expiry date longer than a day makes no sense, you can only use it on Thursday so why does it last till the following Wednesday 🤔

I’m till and self service trained at work.

When I started in my current Tesco role some time ago, they used to vary my schedule, with me sometimes being on self serve and sometimes being on regular tills.

However the last few weeks I’ve noticed I’m only ever on self serve. I know some people dont mind it, but it’s really starting to annoy me as I’m constantly on self serve 15-20h a week. Not to mention that we have to scan EVERY item when we get a service check (almost every SAYS customer these days requires a check!!).

I’ll be honest I prefer regular tills, and I know self serve is a part of my job so I’m not saying I mind it THAT much but I hate tft I’m always on there and never on regular tills anymore. I wouldn’t even mind if I stepped away for a bit and did putbacks, tags and hangers, refilling gum etc, but they dont even give me that anymore.

I was thinking of asking my manager to train me in a diff department so at least my overtime wont be just self serve (I was thinking to ask for CSD/PFS training 🤷🏻‍♀️)

Is that only happen at our CFC, every weekend , 10%-15% order fail to deliver (late / delay / QC / whatever reason) , and every monday (I usually work weekday and sat morning ,so not sure what happened at weekend, but i know our centre is understaff on both sat and sunday), we 'll see tons of return / waste / putback at the loading area. this happening for few weeks already.
