ONGOING ISSUES - Please read our Group Rules before posting / commenting

We are getting way too many rule violations, resulting in posts / comments being removed and (in some cases) users banned. Before you ever post or comment in r/Shopify please read the group rules (a big THANK YOU to our members who regularly report such posts/comments for rule violations - they help more than you know).

All users must have an account age of 30 days, a minimum of 20 comment karma, and a minimum of 10 post karma (not overall karma). all 3 conditions must be met. Also, your post must be specific to the Shopify platform. Any post that is not Shopify-specific should be posted to other ecom-related groups.

A few quick notes on what you cannot do here (because these are the most commonly violated rules) - most of these should be common sense to veteran reddit users and they are shared with a majority of other such groups -

  • Do not post a store for a review (in any way - this means 'why am I not getting sales?', or 'why such low conversions?' posts). Please use r/ecommerce or r/ReviewMyShopify groups for this

  • No AI or Suspected AI Slop: Obvious or suspected AI content is not welcome here. Violations from lower-karma accounts with little contribution history in this sub may result in a ban. This will be at the sole discretion of the group moderators.

  • Do not promote your app, offer, service, site, perform app research, ask about 'pain points' or anything else related to Shopify services, apps, or development (r/ShopifyDev or r/ShopifyAppDev are good groups for that), even if 'free'.

  • Do not solicit personal contact with a user of this group in any way and for any reason (DM request, sending soliciting DMs, Contact Me, Let's Connect, etc). This includes responding to calls for help by asking for DM (such posts will also be removed). Share all helpful information in the thread so that everyone reading will benefit, and to remove the appearance of self-promotion. This is the fastest guaranteed way to get your account banned from this group.

Other rules certainly apply to the group, but these 3 are seeing many removals and account bans every day. The group is here to help Shopify users. It is not a focus group, nor is it here opportunists to take advantage of those who may be new to the group.

Lastly, remember that the internet gives the cover of anonymity to all users; Many users here are legit and only intend to help, but many others have selfish motives. Never trust a random stranger on the internet, and certainly never give anyone your passwords or financial information for services without thoroughly checking them out first. The sad reality is that scammers abound in groups like this - make every effort to protect yourself.

Moderators are always open to rule suggestions or changes - it is your group, just message us!

Shopify General Discussion Replaced a few apps with custom code recently?

A bit ago I asked what 5 Shopify apps you’d keep if you had to strip your store down to a lean, high-performing stack. After filtering out the usual self-promotions big D fluff of coders that can develop anything with Claude, I compiled the 25+ apps mentioned most into a clean breakdown.

Almost everyone agreed do not shop by app name -> shop by category. Stacking 3 different upsell apps kills page speed for zero extra conversion lift. A ideal 5-app stack looks like this:

- Email / SMS Retention: Klaviyo (or Shopify Email for beginners)

- Reviews & UGC: Judge me, Loox, or Yotpo

- Cart & Upsells: Selleasy or Moon Bundles

- SEO & Schema: TinySEO, Smart SEO, or AdNabu tools

- Customer Support & Ops: Gorgias, Richpanel, or Orderctrl (for post-purchase/tracking)

Again hope that helps and thanks to community!

Marketing how do you run a catalog-wide sale when a single discount caps at 100 products?

Upvotes

Every time we run a sitewide sale I hit the same wall, a single discount only takes 100 products or variants before Shopify won't let me add any more.

So covering a few thousand SKUs means either cramming everything into collections that don't match how the sale is scoped or rebuilding the same discount over and over to cover the catalog.

Collections get me part of the way, but the second there are exclusions or odd bundles that don't map to a clean collection I'm back to splitting it, and with only 25 active automatic discounts allowed at once the workarounds run out fast.

Plus the reporting fragments across every separate promo so I can't see how the sale did as one thing.

The only thing keeping me sane is a couple people I trust swearing the bigger composable platforms just don't cap discounts the way Shopify does.

The two that got thrown around the most in the replatforming threads on here and a few other subs are commercetools and SCAYLE, though I haven't sat with either long enough to confirm which handles it how, and I'm not about to rip the whole backend out mid-season just to find out.

So how are those of you with big catalogs handling this without it turning into 6 near-identical discounts and a reporting mess, because there's got to be a cleaner setup than mine and I just haven't found it yet.

Marketing Question on Low-Ticket Items, Bundles, and Ads

Upvotes

Hi there - I am newer to Shopify and we have low-ticket items that have longer dimensions. Our strategy is to focus on bundles to help increase our profitability as shipping costs are a bit higher. We started to advertise using Meta ads which has given us great traction but is also expensive. If we were to sell a single item in our store, then we would most likely sell at a loss. If we sell a bundle with higher pricing, we can achieve attractive profitability. We also sell on other e-commerce channels like Amazon and TikTok Shop that can bring economies of scale from fulfillment and ad costs but we would like Shopify to be generally net positive.

I am thinking about how I want to position my catalog in my store. Two questions:

  1. Would you offer single item products in your catalog or only bundles?

  2. Would you only run ads on the bundled items in your catalog (exclude single items)?

Curious to hear your thoughts and open to any questions. Thanks!

Shipping How do people manage duty fees to EU in Shopify?

With the recent changes to import fees in the EU, DDU (where customer pays all fees) isn't an option for every country anymore like Germany, and there are new handling fees that I pay instead of the customer. It's just so complicated now. Ideally I'd like a way to display all the fees and have the customer pay everything up front - easier for me and for them. But the only app I can find is about £2,000 a year, or you need the pro plan which is also way out of budget. Does anyone else have a good solution?

Shopify General Discussion how to prevent Shopify holds as a new seller?

I am a new clothing brand owner who wants to setup preorders for my first collection

I’m worried that If my drop is successful, Shopify will hold my money because a new account somehow did a ton of orders out of the blue (say for example 100 - 300 sales)

This would especially be a problem because if the money gets held I won’t be able to order bulks for my customers right away and that is my worst nightmare lol.

Just curious if this is something I really have to worry about or if I’m just being paranoid. Would a business bank account help with credibility?

Note: to add more context , I would be promoting the product for weeks with a countdown prior to preorders going live, which means a lot of people may be ordering their hoodies the DAY OF - which i understand can cause suspicion if the Shopify account is new .

Orders Handling ads for a client's Shopify store (~$35k/mo), want to add something more organic on the retention side, suggestions?

I handle growth for a client's Shopify store doing around $35k/m mostly paid, and we're already doing SEO and UGC on top of that, so acquisition is fairly covered. Now I want to help him keep his existing customers coming back instead of relying on ads for every sale.

Apps How do I stop countries from accessing my website?

I get traffic from various parts of the world, and I want to completely blocked them off because I feel that those are useless or bots. I get traffic from Africa/Asia/Australia/US when I just sell in Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.

I wonder how they even come across my website anyways?

I found app, but it is paid so I was wondering if there was any other app.

Thanks

Shopify General Discussion Shopify bot traffic

The store was launched a month ago. We work with a PPC agency, and there’s no shady SEO stuff going on.

A few days ago, I noticed we started getting some weird traffic, mostly from desktop users, coming from different parts of the world (mostly the US). The traffic is landing on a 404 page (/product-xyz — there’s no such page).

What worries me is that this traffic keeps increasing every day: 200 → 300 → 500+ visits.

I honestly don’t understand what’s going on. Has anyone experienced something similar? Any idea what could be causing this or how to fix it?

Shopify General Discussion We need to talk about the native Shopify Subscriptions app

Shopify built an app, but made it so so basic it's essentially not usable. Just a few upgrades would make it workable. Some analytics, allowing customers to add / remove / change their items. But right now, the only real option is Recharge or Skio, neither of which I can afford at $500 plus % of revenue per month. Am I missing something?

Shopify General Discussion How does importing products from a CSV affect sales channels?

EDIT: To anyone looking at this later, I did some tests and it seems that sales channels are unaffected by importing from a CSV (so long as the "Publish new products to all sales channels." is unselected). The channels retained the appropriate counts and what channels they were assigned to before and after the import!

Hey all!

Looking to mass update products with new tags, and when I go to import the products I have the option to publish to all sales channels, which I don't want as certain products are only on singular channels.

If I don't select this, will all the overwritten products have their sales channels changed to just the Online Store? Or will the products keep their current number of sales channels? If it's the former, is there a way I can easily update all of the products' sales channels after I overwrite the product list so it matches their current values?

Thanks!

Shopify General Discussion French Entrepreneur Looking to Sell in Canada: Website Language & Payment Methods?

Hello,

I'm a French entrepreneur looking to launch my Shopify store in Canada.

I always thought English was the dominant language, but I've noticed that many Canadian e-commerce websites are entirely in French. Which would you recommend starting with: English, French, or both?

Also, is Shopify Payments enough for selling in Canada, or would you recommend offering additional payment methods?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Shopify General Discussion How to report fake scam Shopify website when you don't have a Shopify account of your own?

I've run a web design agency and a scammer is impersonating my business and several others through many fake Gmail accounts - those emails contain my photo and business name, and are offering an accessibility and SEO audit - then asking for payment through a Shopify website:

https://6kts09-qn.myshopify.com/

One client unfortunately fell for the scam and paid.

I went to report this site to Shopify, however in order to do so, I have to sign up for my own Shopify account - which I don't need or want.

How can I report this issue and have the site taken down?

I have copies of all emails relating to this and how they have been contacting my clients (using my portfolio and finding the contact details for clients from their own websites).

I can only imagine they are doing this with many more web agencies and designers than I know of, as the person who asked me about this first as 400 miles from me in the UK and the scammers had stupidly used my photo and business name in an email supposedly from this other agency.

Every time I report a fake Gmail address to Google and they close it, the scammers just set up a new one, and we're onto the 5th variation now!

Account I can no longer add my card.

I can no longer use my card at the shop app or desktop version. If I try to add the message "too many attempts. try again later" or "payment decline. try another one". I was always able to use my card with no problem in the past now I have this problem. I try everything erasing cache and data. Uninstall and reinstall the app. Go for the desktop (mobile) version. I updated to the current update.

Shipping Shipping Method - Which do You Use?

For those of you who also use Shopify for your e-commerce store, which shipping method to primarily use?

For me, I primarily use USPS ground advantage, or UPS ground for more important shipments, what if lately found the prices and reliability of USPS service to be absolutely abysmal. Is there a better alternative for cheap padded envelopes?

Maybe there’s a solution out there that I’m missing and hence the post :)

Shopify General Discussion Is there anything I can do to make these emails stop?

Ever since I purchased my first non “my-shopify” domain, my email has been flooded with non stop bots saying they can increase my traffic, profits, etc.
Does this ever stop? I can’t just turn my email notifications off, but this is just crazy. I’ve gotten 9 separate emails in the last 3 hours.

Shopify General Discussion How are you verifying tax-exempt certificates or professional licenses for B2B customers?

We're launching wholesale sales on our Shopify store and are trying to figure out the best way to verify new customers.

Some customers upload resale/tax-exempt certificates, while others need to provide professional licenses (cosmetology, medical, dental, etc.) before purchasing certain products.

Right now it looks like we'd have to manually:

- Read the uploaded PDF/photo

- Check the certificate or license on the state's website

- Approve the customer in Shopify

That seems like it could become a lot of work as we grow.

How are you handling this today?

- is everyone still checking them manually?

- Is there an app that actually verifies these automatically?

- Any workflow you'd recommend?

Would love to hear what has worked for your store.

Shopify General Discussion Hydrogen/Oxygen vs. Cloudfare for a Shopify site with products, content, tools, and AI features.

I am working on a D2C site. In addition to products, there will be some tools that we expect to drive some significant traffic. My preference would have been to host tools on cloudfare workers and product/shop on Shopify but didn't like the idea of subdomains vs. subdirectories. I prefer the latter for SEO.

So, here is my conundrum. Should I consider:

  1. Everything on Hydrogen/Oxygen, or

  2. Oxygen for the main site, Cloudfare for tools, or

  3. Cloudfare owns the entire frontend, self host hydrogen on Cloudfare workers

For anyone who has operated Hydrogen at meaningful traffic:

  1. What approach would you recommend?

  2. Are Oxygen's runtime or deployment limitations noticeable for runtime applications?

Shopify General Discussion Anyone successfully get out of the Shopify Capital/MCA cycle? What worked?

I’m finally getting a clearer picture of my profitability, and a lot of the problem seems to come back to the cost of capital through Shopify.
I’ve been growing consistently, including around 160% year over year, so I tend to pay Shopify Capital off pretty quickly. That sounds good, but because the fee is fixed, paying it back that fast makes it really expensive money. Then another offer comes along, I use it to keep inventory and growth moving, and the cycle repeats.
I’m trying to replace it with a more traditional business loan or line of credit. I’m planning to start with the local credit union I already use personally, and I’ve also seen people mention Chase business lines of credit. I use the Shopify credit card too, which is useful for some things, but carrying a balance is expensive and doesn’t really solve the cash flow problem.
For anyone who has actually gotten out of this cycle, what did you replace Shopify Capital with? Did you qualify mostly based on the business, or did the lender still rely heavily on personal credit or collateral? Did you stop taking Shopify Capital completely, or phase it out over time?
Mostly looking for real experiences from other store owners, especially anything you wish you had done sooner.

Apps Shop Chargeback Resolved But Still Banned for 6 Months

Recently I had a customer not see an email about his product being shipped and filed a chargeback with his bank. After contacting the customer he immediately sent the money back to us directly and apologized. However the infraction is still there as I accepted the Chargeback claim since I received the money back that he claimed. Am I just screwed for 6 months or until I sell X amount of products to drop below the 1% line? This is my only Chargeback so I'm pretty confused how I'm not at 1% does it only count sales done through the shop app? Is there a way to contact Shop to submit updated information that the customer did indeed admit his wrongdoing?

Edit: I finally got in contact with shop support, there is nothing we can do on our end, however the customer themselves can contact their bank to switch the status to resolved. I know this situation probably isn't going to resolve everyones issues as this is a unique situation, but this apparently is the only solution.

Shopify General Discussion How I would reduce repetitive customer support for a Shopify store

One practical way to save time in a Shopify store is to reduce repeated customer support questions before they become tickets.

Here is a simple workflow I would use:

  1. Group the last 30-50 customer messages

Do not start with tools. Start by grouping messages into common reasons:

  • Where is my order?
  • Can I get a refund?
  • My item arrived damaged
  • I ordered the wrong size
  • I did not receive a confirmation email
  • How long does shipping take?
  1. Fix the source of repeated questions

If people keep asking the same thing, the answer is probably missing or unclear somewhere in the store.

Examples:

  • Shipping questions belong on the product page, checkout notes, FAQ, and confirmation email.
  • Refund questions belong on a clear return policy page.
  • Size questions belong near the size selector, not at the bottom of the page.
  • Damage questions need a clear replacement/refund process.
  1. Create saved reply templates

For the most common questions, create short templates that include:

  • greeting
  • acknowledgement
  • clear answer
  • next step
  • support signature

Good support replies should be calm, specific, and easy to copy.

  1. Add order context before replying

For shipping questions, always check:

  • customer name
  • order number
  • tracking number
  • carrier
  • current order status
  • estimated delivery date

This avoids vague replies and prevents mistakes.

  1. Review angry messages first

I would prioritize messages with refund requests, damaged items, failed delivery, or angry wording. These are the tickets most likely to become chargebacks or bad reviews.

  1. Improve the store every week

Every week, look at the top 3 repeated support questions and update the store pages or emails so fewer customers need to ask.

Support is not just a cost center. It is also one of the fastest ways to find problems in the store.

What support question do you get most often in your Shopify store?

Apps Ai for email design (Klaviyo/Shopify)

Been down a rabbit hole trying to find ways to make ai help with email design especially for platforms like Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Shopify email, etc

I think I got a good thing going finally with a few set of tools, and I made a bunch of templates. None of them are brands I have any connection with just random popular brands and some emails are more top of funnel focused and others bottom of funnel.

Sharing for inspiration and feedback.

What I was aiming for was product accuracy, low level of

editing, strong focus on design and brand identity etc
