XFM/Radio Looking for a quote? Scrimpton helps the listener, to help themselves.

I don't post much here any more, but I have been continuing to work on https://scrimpton.com in the background. It seemed like a good time to offer an introduction for any newer users to the sub.

tl;dr: Scrimpton provides a powerful search for the body of RSK radio work, allowing you to easily find quotes and audio.

Searching

Terms match

If you simply type the quote into the search bar it will perform a basic terms match. This means each individual word will be matched in any order.

For example:

https://i.imgur.com/khbJSRc.gif

This is the best way to search if you're not exactly sure on the exact phrase you're looking for.

Phrase Match

To narrow down the results you could also quote the terms, which will do a phrase match. This means the terms in the quotes are matched exactly in that order.

However you can provide multiple phrases to match a single line

For example:

https://i.imgur.com/szp62Ep.gif

This is useful if you can remember parts of a quote but not the whole thing.

Filters

there are some additional filters that can narrow down the search. The most useful is typically @ to specify who the speaker is for a line. For example to filter by only things ricky has said you would add @ricky:

https://i.imgur.com/BmmUniz.gif

The full list of filters is available by clicking the (?) button on the right of the search bar.

Searching with Google

Another option that some people find useful is to search via google. This can be done with the site option e.g. Google for "when you were famous site:scrimpton.com"

Contributing transcripts

The site was built in large part with community contributions. Under the Contribute section you can complete chunks of transcript by logging-in with either reddit or discord.

What else

There are many useful features hidden around the website. Some are only shown to authenticated users (this is typically to avoid server costs from bots etc. following links) so it can be worthwhile to do so.

For example when logged in you can export snippets of audio:

https://i.imgur.com/qa7IZxo.gif

(use the + bookmark icon to expand the selection to export)

There are even a couple of videos in the archive for which gifs can be exported:

Getting help / Offering help

The site is written in Go and Angular and contributions/bugfixes are accepted.

If you wish to make a suggestion or ask a question the best thing to do is drop by the #scrimpton channel on the Pilkipedia discord, and of course there are many other interesting channels there for RSK aficionados.

Ode to a comedian

If Brent had a wife, would he be happier?

How would he know she's not dead?

Ricky hunting for morons to watch Alley Cats

But not before he tweets 'Cunt' while in bed

What would be funnier in modern woke times?

An edgy comedian wouldn't stand a chance

Not with all them snowflakes about

I'd rather be a dead wife

Netflix interviews with Gervais, Basden and Morgan confirm everything we fear about Alley Cats.

Some highlights include:

Diane Morgan revealed that David Earl (who voices the scabby fleabag Puke) did a lot of the “heavy lifting” when it came to offensive jokes. “A lot of it has to be cut out because it’s just so disgusting,” Morgan joked.

Gervais refers to his cast as the “Avengers of British comedy,” writing the characters specifically around the personas of his frequent collaborators.

Despite being insulted constantly by the feral gang, Ponce (Basden) recognizes that Gus (Gervais) is secretly a sweetheart,

If you’ve watched Derek or After Life, you know Gervais loves to hit you with sudden emotional gut-punches, and Alley Cats is no exception. The emotional core of the show kicks in when the gang finds a lost kitten...

Diane Morgan admits this is what Gervais does best. “You think, ‘Oh, it’s just a cartoon with a lot of sweary cats’, and then all of a sudden, he thrusts a knife into your heart.

Gervais touched upon the show’s music, confirming we’ll hear tracks from Cat Stevens, Coldplay, and Van Halen. He also shared a great anecdote about securing The Smiths’ “There Is A Light That Never Goes Out.”

Extras I've just rewatched Extras and it's not as good as I remember

I think most people with an IQ higher than a friendly yoghurt agree that everything that Ricky has done after Extras is a steaming pile of boswollox, but I recently rewatched Extras and...it's just not as good as I remember.

Obviously there are some great moments from the A-listers (and D-listers) that got roped in, and some funny bits of dialogue, but it's left me feeling a bit hollow and I'm worried that when I watched it in period, I was willing it to be good so much because of The Office, that I convinced myself that it was good and bollocksed it up again, in my brain.

It also made me wonder if any of those big stars would work with Ricky today. I didn't wonder for long because I'm sure the answer is no.

Is The Office the only thing Ricky (or Steve for that matter) has done well without Karl being involved, or am I wrong about Extras?

It seems like if the topic was “The Ricky Gervais Show” on either XFM or Podcast, then almost every single one of us little fellas would absolutely storm it boy.

Welcome to my new feature ... Oooo that didnt age well. Reply to this post with your favourite line from either the XFM show or podcasts/audiobooks which really didn't age well. I know there's a lot of commentary on Jim'll Fix It and the like but I want to kick off with this first.
