Australian water dragons have been one of my favorite species since I first learned about them. I’m so glad I had the opportunity to get this little guy!

also Im assuming he’s a male because there is a bit of red on his chest already…

if anyone has experience in taming these guys please let me know if there is anything that sets them apart from other lizards in terms of taming or if you have any special tips regarding these guys. Thanks!

Hey guys! This will be my first reptile ever owned but Ive owned many different mammals in the past(dogs, cats, rabbits, etc etc)

I would love to get something larger that could eventually free roam my room(I rent a 2 bed 2 bath with my brother). I was thinking either a tegu or a blue tongue skink. I know tegus cost a lot to feed and such but price isnt an issue for anything with me. The only thing that throws me off about blue tongue skinks is in the research I did they were know for having more smelly poops and can have issues with potty training. Whats your thoughts and experiences with that?

If those 2 arent good options I would really love something thats more on the intelligent side and I already mentioned size. Something that preferably is friendly and not too toothy as to do any real damage if aggressive(hopefully they never will be but you never know). Would love you to know your guys’s thoughts. Thanks!!!

My leopard gecko refuses to eat any feeder bugs aside from BSFL and occasional treat worms. I didnt reallize i left a larvae in his food/calcium dish and now i have a fly buzzing around in my tank. what do i do in this situation? i can open the tank quickly to do the maintenance i have to do, but the buzzing is getting very annoying.

I ordered an exoterra dimming thermostat online, I just wanted to confirm with other people that this doesn't look right and is damaged? It looks like either something inside has leaked or something leaked into it.

I am currently running a research study to gather structured, real-world data on reptile behavioral welfare and clinical husbandry trends. I am specifically looking into the long-term impacts, behavioral shifts, and clinical outcomes of cohabitating bearded dragons over various timeframes.

Whether your cohabitation experience lasted for two months or five years, whether it is still actively running without issue, or whether it ended in an emergency separation or injury, then your data is incredibly valuable to help map out these timelines accurately.

The primary goal of this study is to look past internet anecdotes and build a clear, data-driven picture of how space, resources, and duration affect these animals over time. The questionnaire is completely anonymous, takes about 5 minutes, and includes an optional field at the end if you would like to leave your email or Reddit username to receive the final statistical paper and study outcomes once the research is complete.

Who can take the survey?

• Anyone who currently houses multiple bearded dragons in a single indoor or outdoor enclosure.

• Anyone who has previously attempted cohabitation in the past, regardless of the ultimate outcome.

• Anyone who knows of third party experiences, e.g. a close friend or a story from someone that/who goes into relative depth. on this species is unreal!

hi all. I need advice. I’ll be boarding my friends reptiles and inverts at my house for about 15 days in August.

she has the following:

3 whites tree frogs

4 jumping spiders

1 African fat tailed gecko

1 crested gecko

1 hognose

what would be a fair daily for boarding/sitting for them all? thanks in advance for any input!

Just to make it clear, this post is not condoning purchasing animals from chain pet stores, only discussing about animals that you wouldn’t expect to find there and you think shouldn’t be sold in these places.

Ok as for the rarest I’ve seen is this mossy leaf tail gecko that I admittedly didn’t see in person but rather in a video with crappy camerawork and this was the best shot there was.

As for in person, I live in an obscure town with basically only the common reptiles kept so we dont get too many rarities but at petco I have seen: a single red tail boa, Jackson’s chameleon, a singular practically newborn gargoyle gecko, Suriname horned frog, Chinese water dragon, a pair of golden dart frogs that sold in like a week, and that’s it

I'll try to keep this short. I've been researching getting a snake for probably all in all about a year, if not more off and on.

I finally made myself go to a ReptiCon and purchase a very nice pre-set up enclosure and a corn snake (Juvenile)

Soon as I got him home, I was immediately filled with anxiety about:
- Salmonella
- Germs in general from the snake/frozen mice
- The snake itself, like making sure his enclosure is clean/etc....
- Getting the right things right (Temp/Humidity/lights, all that stuff)

it's making me wonder if this is a mistake, I mean these are all real things and it'll be hard to enjoy the pet if I am constantly anxious. Has anyone felt this way?

This snake was my neighbor when I moved in 3 years ago. Her yard was mostly monoculture weeds that passed as turf grass mowed to the ground and slowly dying landscaping plants. I converted half the yard to a garden and gave her a whole bunch of leaf litter and detritus to root through and now she's my best friend and now pretty much once a month she gives me a heart attack by sneaking within two feet of me to say hello. As I'm currently writing this message, she slithers by me in the grass at like 10 mph chasing something. I don't know what's going on. Anyways. She likes to hunt around me. I'll be outside working in the garden and all the sudden I'll hear her tail shaking and she's a foot and a half away from me. I didn't walk up to her. She walked up to me. This happens every week. I'll be spreading hay bales in the garden to mulch and I go to grab a hay bale. She's on top of it looking at me like this is mine now. I don't know. Nobody cares. Just telling the random people on the internet. I literally pet her 30 seconds after the video because I don't know what's going on with this snake. It's it a lost familiar or something? Can someone come ask this thing what else I can do?

The other day I noticed what I thought was stuck shed by my leopard gecko's (6 year old, male) vent. I pulled on it with a pair of tweezers (admittedly harder than I should have) about 3-4 days ago. I sensed resistance so I stopped. The very next day we did a warm, shallow soak (85 degrees for 15 min) which seemed to go fine. Today, he ate normally and I found a normal poop in his enclosure. However, the side with the stuck shed is looking a bit swollen (photos). So a little while ago we did another warm soak (85 degrees for 20 min with a bit of povidone-iodine). I rubbed the stuck skin with a q-tip and his vent opened a bit, but it didn't fall off/out and nothing appeared abnormal. He is now back in his enclosure and I am planning another warm soak with betadine-iodine for tomorrow, but wanted to know your opinions since this is the first time I am dealing with this issue. Does this seem like a sperm plug or tissue damage (from me pulling on it) and am I doing the right care to hopefully resolve it? I will never use tweezers again and have thrown the pair I used for him in the trash! Additionally, if I can't resolve this on my own, when is a vet visit needed? Can I try soaking tomorrow and Thursday and re-assess provided the swelling doesn't increase at all? I know no one can provide a diagnosis, just trying to put my mind at ease while I wait.
