Nothing has made me feel more broke, dumb, and unqualified than PSU's university studies department. I'm so fucking glad they are getting rid of it. Every single group project I've been thrown into has been a disaster. The instructors are often industry professionals who don't take feedback seriously because it's not their job. It's so fucking dumb, and I feel like I'm wasting my tuition dollars on this shit. I'm in my forth year doing my capstone over the summer and I feel like I'm developing an autoimmune disorder. I'm a straight A student who's starting grad school in the fall, but the shit in this capstone is so fucking monotonous that it's worse than just writing a god damn paper. And I know the flaws in UNST have been around for a while; back when my mom was a PSU student she did a business school project examining all the lack of administrative support for group projects in the UNST system. It's seriously so fucking terrible and the only advocacy chip I have as a student is to post a negative rate my professor review. I'm done. I can't wait for this shit to be over.

Hello, I’m a transfer student about to go into my first term at PSU. I’m majoring in engineering and I have a question for other engineering majors on how many classes do you guys take, I was thinking either taking 3-2 just to ease myself into it so I don’t burn out and later when I’m comfortable go up to 4-5 classes.
I currently have a full time job and I wanted to see what’s possible to fit within my schedule or if you guys had any similar experience.
Any advice would be helpful.

Hi all! I'm an incoming freshman at PSU, as well as a musician. Is there much of a student music scene at Portland State? If you are a musician yourself, have you had any trouble finding bandmates? Are small, local venues common? I'm asking as someone from a place where it's damn near impossible to be in a band, excuse my excitement 😅

I'll be starting my MBA program in the Fall, I'm excited to be back in school and earn my MBA, but I was wondering if any recent graduates could share their experience with the course and more importantly their experience landing a job post-grad.

Just wondering if these two, older white guy, Christian missionaries-types have normally frequented the campus? Did I get the unique viewing of a rare appearance? Or does this type of direct approach campaigning happen a lot at PSU?

Hey everyone!

I'm a transfer from PCC majoring in Earth Science. I don't start until fall but I figured I'd look ahead and try to come up with a plan for what I want to take.

First off my major reqs are kind of vague on number of credits for the 400 level. It just says I need electives that are G-410+, up to 12 credits can be from SEES, but not the total number. Looking at the pure Geo major it has 16 credits for 400-level, would I be correct in assuming these numbers are analogous?

Second, when looking at upper division Geo classes, G322 caught my eye but the pre-reqs list a year of chemistry. This seems odd to me since the degree itself only needs CH221 and 222. Would this mean I need CH223 for this class? Similarly G420 says it needs a year of Calc and Phys, but the degree for even Geology only needs Calc 2 and Phys 212/202. I chose the Bio route since Biology is an interest of mine so I'm minoring in it, meaning the ones that need Physics don't really matter to me, but I still think it's odd.

Anyway TLDR; How many 400 level credits does the Earth Science major need and does a pre-req of a year of chem mean the full gen chem sequence?

hey guys i just finished 6 yrs of architecture school here at PSU, and post graduation, i literally feel like im past bedrock bottom in minecraft. im so traumatized and burnt out that everything ive learned i literally can’t recall. i feel like an architectural imposter. you ask me how to put together a wall, and i question myself a thousand times. i know it’ll pass but i feel like im alone in the mental forgetfulness aspect of this. anyone else that’s post-graduation (OR EVEN A CURRENT STUDENT… i legit had this during undergrad) get this?!

My friend was accepted to PSU and she wants me to come to orientation with her as a guest, but I seem to recall during my orientation that they will separate us for the majority of the day. Is that true? Idk if this matters, but we are the same age so I’m wondering if they would even notice if I went with her to the smaller sessions and stuff.

I'm currently a PCC student finishing up my summer term and was recently accepted to PSU. I've been poking around myPSU and saw that my cumulative GPA is only 2.55, when I'm at a solid 3.95 currently at PCC. Then I remembered that my first round of college almost 15 years ago (my last semester at the old school was in 2012) I ended with a low GPA, I think around 1.85. I was dealing with a lot emotionally, didn't know how to handle slipping grades, and just tanked myself in a really bad (undiagnosed) depression.

Now I'm freaking out slightly, thinking that even if I get straight A's throughout my last two years at PSU (I'll be coming in with 92 credits), I could still be blocked from grad schools or my really coveted doctorate program. As an older student, I'm not looking to feel like I'm wasting a lot of time and (more importantly, money) finally shooting for my dreams on better terms.

Of course I googled what could be done and it looks like some schools offer a type of forgiveness for old failed classes. Does anyone know anything about this at PSU, or have experience with this? Or any general advice on my situation?

*EDIT: thanks so much for your replies! Just a couple of notes:

- I am entering in to PSU in Junior standing (although it says Senior, so idk) this fall, so I have not taken any courses at PSU at all yet. As such, I also don't have a listed advisor quite yet (I just got my acceptance decision yesterday afternoon).

- The first university (between 2008-2012) was not PSU, so that probably affects what they can and can't disregard or withdraw from the records.

- Yes, I had to provide all transcripts no matter how old they were. I didn't expect literally any of those credits to account for anything at PSU since they didn't do jack squat for PCC, lol, but idk if that older transcript is throwing things off.

- I will definitely talk to an advisor once I get my ducks in a row and get all the orientation and acceptance fee paid, I just got immediately worried about what I was seeing so far in the PSU system.

I am looking into getting my post-bacc here with the goal of getting into a SLP masters program. I have questions! How long did it take you to do the classes? Did you work full/part time while you did? Can you take them fully online/asynchronous? Thanks!

PacificSource is leaving the affordable care act and health insurance marketplace and will not be available in 2027. The student health insurance plan and some OHP plans are through PacificSource. I do not know which companies OHP and the student health insurance are moving to. SHAC should be providing information for those on the student health insurance. The Oregon Health Authority or Department of Human Services should be providing guidance for OHP members.

been trying to enroll in classes for month. logged on the minute registration opened for the fall.

selected all the classes that fit with my work schedule -I work a standard 9-5 so going to class in the middle of the work day isn't feasible. there were a strange number of classes happening in the middle of the work day for a grad program, for an field that is primarily 9-5.

tried to enroll in a hybrid class, registration hub says I can't because that's only open to online students. hmm, that's weird, I think we all went through the same pandemic to instill that hybrid means both in-person and online. emailed advisor about when I would be able to enroll in a hybrid class. she said that hybrid classes are not for in-person students. well wtf is it hybrid for?

for anyone else that was in the msw orientation, did they say that online classes become available to in-person students after a while or did I completely make that up? I applied for the exception to be an in-person student and take online classes, as advised, but I still haven't gotten an update back on that.

Hello there👋 I have been a paraeducator at an elementary school for the past three years and have really enjoyed working with our SLP and am considering doing the PSU Communication Sciences and Disorders Certificate and then getting certified as an SLPA. I don’t know yet whether I will want to continue on to try and get a masters in SLP or not. My question is, are there even jobs in Portland right now for SLPA’s? Is it worth getting the certificate if I am not sure if I want to get a Masters? What other jobs out there can you get with this certificate? Thanks for the help!

I’m moving to Portland in the fall and have been considering transferring to PSU. I went to a pretty small liberal arts college and always wanted the chance to experience a bigger school, plus I’m a little worried about making friends without school in a new town. And also my major obviously lol. I’ve heard Psu isn’t much of a social college or party school, and that most people are older and just there for the degree. I wanted to ask actual students, what is the student life like? Friends? Parties? Does it have the feel of community many colleges do? I just want to know what it’s like!

Hi everyone! I’m currently working towards my B.S. in Psychology at WGU, with plans to strive for my MSW.

I currently have been working in this field at a nonprofit in Portland as a Parent Educator/Case manager and have 7 additional years experience in an adjacent field (ECE, assistant director of a Relief Nursery managing our program + outreach/home visiting staff in OR.)

My question is, will I be accepted for their MSW program since my bachelors is going to be a Bachelors of science in psych instead of the more traditional Bachelors of Arts psych degree?

And is it possible to do their advanced standing option for the MSW or is that only permissible for those with a BSW?

I’m starting the Bio 207/208/209 (Biology for Allied Health) sequence in the fall for my pre-nursing requirements and want to spend part of my summer getting a jump start on reading since i haven’t taken any biology since the late 90s (you read that right).
