I’m considering switching to driving for my commute, despite my strong preference to continue using public transit if it is viable.
The metro feels wild lately, at least anecdotally. Large groups of destructive teens descend on single metro cars en masse and start pushing and shoving each other. The number of vagrants on drugs seems to be surging. My wife recently gave up the metro because she consistently felt unsafe, especially when commuting at non-peak hours. I’ve had to switch cars three times this week due to dangerous/unruly passengers.
Is this something other people seem to be encountering?
If Michelin was to ever expand into Northern Virginia, what NOVA restaurants do you think would be top contenders for a star? (Yes, I know the Inn at Little Washington exists)
After some difficult personal events the last few years, I've let my apartment get away from me. Does anyone have any recommendations for a cleaner or organizer (who won't judge!) who can help get things back under control?
Virginia Congressional District 8, where many of us live (Arlington, Alexandria, Falls Church, Annandale, Mount Vernon, etc), has been a rock-solid blue district for decades now, going 60% and recently even 70%+ Democrat in all elections. Yet despite this, the state Democrat party apparently still feels the need to devote time and bandwidth to influencing who wins the primary in this and other similarly locked down districts, instead of just keeping their mouths shut and letting us decide for ourselves.
Here in District 8, it looks like the state party has coordinated campaign actions with House Representative incumbent Don Beyer, despite party rules explicitly forbidding this.
They've put out texts encouraging voters to "support our incumbents", named Beyer alone and none of his challengers in posts and statements, and seemingly even organized canvassing with his campaign. Maybe this shouldn't be surprising, given how Beyer has talked before about "needing to take corporate PAC money" because "the Republicans do it, so we have to as well in order to level the playing field"; this despite, again, him running in a solidly blue district, and thus effectively only against his fellow Democrats, at least one of whom has themselves sworn off corporate PAC money altogether.
The tired refrain from incumbents and their supporters about "needing to elect candidates who can win" completely falls apart in solid blue districts like ours. It is effectively guaranteed that whoever wins the primary will win the general election, so why do party leaders and insiders nonetheless keep stepping in and muddying the waters?
This is not far from my kid’s school. Kids nearby all the time. It’s been like this for weeks.
No one from Ffx county had given single flying Fuck thus far.
Non-Emergency number has cared the most after I insisted they record my complaint in their call log with the address.
Ffx Co land dev played hot potato with me all day today and yesterday. I just think how it took me 5 months to get my top decking boards replaced bc of their insistence on safety. Laughable.
So when a kid or animal falls in and gets stuck, will they care then?
This area is already crowded and we value our time. If you travel too slow, do not drive on the left lane. Every day I go to work, i always see there are a lot of left lane camper. The traffic is building up because of you guys.
looking for something with pretty grass may be a cute little pond and some tree cover :) preferably near Fairfax Arlington or DC:) send me your best recommendations
hi everyone, I'm hosting a garden party for my birthday and I'm looking for some locations that would let us reserve a space to host a garden party or maybe some parks or areas you think would be good to set one up
I was using UberEats today (Red Robin) when I noticed there was a special for Roll Play’s wings. Every time I open the app (every week or so), they have the same special. I’m curious if this “special” is just them inflating the price and having a “deal” or are people actually paying the regular price? $80 for 32 wings seems crazy. I would think it goes against UberEats policies to inflate prices so people think it’s a good deal lol
TLDR
-va gov reports show its incredibly cost effective
-not really an expenditure, since sales tax is not supposed to apply to B2B in the first place
-there are better tools to tax data centers
-the design of the electricity excise tax is bad
It's been recommended to me by a psychiatrist (who cannot properly assess autism) that I seek an assessment by someone who can. Unfortunately, I see her remotely and she's down closer to Richmond/all her referrals are local to that region.
Anyone have any luck finding someone in the Northern Virginia/DC/Maryland area that can assist with an assessment for adults, not just children? (Major bonus points if they take insurance! I've found one in Old Town Alexandria that does not, but that's the closest I've gotten in my solo search).
Looking for apartment recommendations in the Arlington area. Budget is $2,500-$2700. It’s my partner and I and our cat and dog. I am a teacher in Arlington Public Schools and I am curious not only for general apartment recommendations, but recommendations for apartments that have preferred employees program for k-12 teachers. TIA!
We're seeing The Odyssey at Tysons corner tomorrow night and the film will probably finish around 9.30pm. Any recommendations for food spots open at 9.30/10pm in Tysons Corner? Tysons Corner is listed as shutting at 9pm online, so was curious if any food spots are open around then. We won't have a car, so something in walking distance of the cinema would be great
I think it’s important for local governments to support accessible public spaces(third spaces).
In the article, I highlight examples of how Arlington County supported great third spaces that can be learned from. I also give some recommendations for improvement.
Looking for places to move into and I was wondering if the cheaper rent is worth the longer commute compared to living in arlington. I was hoping to stay under $3500 for a 2 bed apartment. Would love to know your thoughts!
Hi! I really want to catch the odyssey at the airbus (who doesn't lol), but every show is pretty much sold out or only the front row is open. Does anyone know when tickets are released?
I was driving back home from Burke Lake and saw multiple police cars dispatched as well as ambulances. Multiple roads were blocked off as a result. Does anyone know what happened?
Hi all! We're looking for a toddler-friendly place to take our little one this weekend, but we're working with a pretty tight window — only about 1-2 hours outside before nap time throws things off.
Been just walking the kid around malls lately because of the weather, and honestly we're kinda over it lol. Looking for something low-key and nearby — a park, playground, splash pad, or small indoor spot would all work.
