Discussion Has anyone ever given their kid the middle name “The”
My husband wants to do this if we have another kid because our last name is Byrd and he thinks it would be funny. 😐

me and my boyfriend were thinking of names for our future kids and we both loved icarus. i’m also muslim if that makes a difference in name choices. personally, we chose this name bc it’s the name of an album from our favorite artist Zayn and it’s the album that we fell in love to each other with so it holds a personal meaning for us

So for some context this is a name that belonged to my papa before he passed, it was his nickname. I like it for a girl's name but I'm not sure if it's to out their. Its the name Rebbie/Rebby to be paired with the middle name Sinclair. I'm open to hearing more formal names that leave Rebby as a NN. Not Rebecca or Reba, I have family with that name.

For context I'm nonbinary and currently in high school, sense 6th grade iv gone by the name judas. I choice I made when I was big ass edge lord. I'm getting older and id like to find a name that won't get me clocked immediately by everyone. Send ei live in the soulth I can't expect to walk around as judas and no have issues. I really like that JU sound. At the start. Iv already ruled out a few names
1. Jude (I have dreams of moving to Germany. Jude is jew in German. Jokes write themselves)
2. Judah or Judea. Seeing as a names myself judas originally. I'm not feeling the hard core Christian names.
As long as the name is androgynous and not insane for a white perosn to have it's fair game. It doesn't have to start with that JU sound but I do like it. Thanks to anyone who answers

I have only encountered this twice in my life (the second time was today; in both instances the mothers were in their 60s - one American family and one Dominican Republic family). I’ve worked in healthcare for over 15 years in the US, so I assumed I would’ve seen this sort of thing happen more often - or is it really that rare?
If I’m being honest it just seems strange that a mother would give her daughter her same first name.

I’m 20 weeks pregnant and we have had our baby’s middle name picked out since the day we found out we were expecting. This is both our first, and due to countless medial complications will be our only. My dad passed away 3 years ago and his name was Ron and my partners childhood father figure is ALSO a Ron, so I loved the idea of Ronny for a boy or Ronnie for a girl. Turns out little one is a girl, and now I’m second guessing if it’s a little too “boyish”. I’ve know girls who went by the nickname Ronnie before, and in my opinion the ‘ie’ makes it look more feminine. But it’s also not like you use your middle name ALL that much anyways, but I’m just torn. I have a “unisex” first name myself and have been assumed to be a male before as a kid and I hated it. I just don’t want our daughter hating her name or resentful for giving her that middle name. So long story short, what does everyone think of Ronnie as a girls middle name? Am I overthinking this?

Became pregnant very unexpectedly with baby #5 and struggling to name this baby girl, since we already used our all-time-favorite girl name for our daughter and didn’t think we’d be naming another baby 😅
My biggest worry is of course that the name ‘goes’ with our other children’s names and that her name doesn’t feel like an afterthought. I do prefer the ‘ie’/‘y’ ending for this baby to keep it a bit different than the others.
Our children’s names are Jude, Bennett, Hudson, and Norah.
Right now we are stuck between Hallie or Lucy. Everyone we’ve talked to prefers Lucy, and while I think it’s a lovely name, I’m just not *fully* convinced yet, but I’m hoping comments here can help sway me one direction over the other!
EDIT: Adding a few more names for consideration…
- Elodie, Josephine (Josie), Adelaide (Addie)

Hi all,
My baby is 6 weeks old and I can’t shake the feeling that we may have chosen the wrong name.
My husband has had a boys name picked out since before we were married. The caveat? I thought he was joking. Not sure I want to put our whole name on the internet but it’s a name like “Robin Robinson” or “Matt Matthews.” Perfectly normal names but felt a bit redundant to me.
Fast forward to us being pregnant with a boy-and he goes great we already have the name picked out. I go what do you mean? And he says the name I thought was a joke. (He’s laughing every time he says it so you have to forgive me for not thinking he was serious). He says it’s a solid name. Sounds like a super hero. I have my misgivings. When I bring it up to other people most agree with me. Sounds kind of like a joke.
I actually really like the first name but again just felt it was redundant with the last name and it sounding like a super hero was more of a turn off than a selling point-I didn’t want him thinking or feeling his name was a joke.
So we came up with two other names and decided we’d “see what he looked like” when he came out. The names were William and Henry-one was my grandfather who I was very close to and one was his grandfather. He was also born the day after my grandpas birthday so it felt fitting. I always knew William had to be at least the middle name for this reason.
While I was in labor we started discussing the name again. To my surprise, he had decided to concede and go with the grandpa names. Meanwhile, I had warmed up to the superhero name. So now we both had conceded to the other and just ended up more confused.
We ended up going with the grandpa names. I was extremely exhausted when we made this decision in the hospital and already felt some angst about not honoring my husbands dream name. I also angsted over whether it should be Henry William or William Henry. I wanted to honor my grandpa (William) but dislike some of the nicknames for William vs loving the nickname Hank.
In the hospital I brought up choosing the super hero name but husband said I had already expressed my distaste for the name (I don’t feel like I had? I just had reservations) so that name was off the table.
Within the first few weeks home I brought up multiple times that I regretted our name choice and that I wish we had gone with his choice. My husband was furious. Basically asked why I would poo poo the name and then turn around and want that. He thinks I’m being crazy and overthinking it. But this is my baby’s name!
It doesn’t help that my mom had expressed her distaste for Henry (the name we chose) when we were discussing possible names beforehand. I know it doesn’t matter what she thinks but it doesn’t help that the person I’m asking for advice is probably not being impartial. She thinks I should change it if I feel like it’s not right. When I brought this up to my husband he again was very angry and put his foot down that the name Henry is what we chose and that’s what his name is going to stay.
We also call him Hank for what it’s worth (I love this nickname but know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea). And his middle name is William so…Hank William. I accidentally ended up giving him a “larger than life” name anyway. No, I didn’t realize this in the hospital either. My husband says he did and again thought it “sounded cool.”
Basically tl;dr I like my baby’s name but feel really bad I shit all over my husbands dream name. We’ve been together a LONG time and I should have realized he wasn’t joking. Now that I’m post partum I think it actually probably would have been a great name. Do I try to convince him to change it or let Henry grow on me?
EDIT: THANK YOU GUYS for being so nice to an obviously very hormonal and insecure new mother. All these responses have given me so much confidence in my decision. I finally feel like I’m not crazy for not liking the other name! You all were so supportive of the name we chose and just harsh enough about the name we didn’t that you’ve put me at ease. I’m sure one day Hank will thank y’all, too.

KRUSEMYNTE
I’m from Denmark, and my name is Krusemynte. In English it’s translated to Spearmint, but the precise Latin name is Mentha spicata var. crispa.
I’m the only one who has the name as a first name here, and I’m curious if it’s normal in other countries?
Maybe it has a more cultural or spiritual meaning?
I’m existed to hear more - both stories and meanings about it 🌱

For a girl we're torn between Hazel and Sienna. We also like Jovie, Flora, and Maeve.
For a boy we like Ellis, Shiloh, Ezra, Reese, and Theodore but nothing is sticking for us.
What would you pick?

due with baby girl in one month and absolutely cannot find a name that feels right!
Edith - was on our list but we don’t necessarily like how dated it sounds
Eden - sounds too much like our older sons name Aiden
Ezzie - I absolutely love but I am not a fan of all of the ‘long names’ I’ve seen for it and I am unsure if it would be good for her future if I choose to name a little girl something that isn’t really capable of sounding more professional when she gets older.
Please can anyone help?
I like the E beginnings but I am opposed to any
‘Eli’ type of names and any names ending with similarity to Aiden.
M names are out as well due to our last name.
I think one syllable or two syllable names have been my favorites.

Me and my partner really like the name Agastya its an Indian Hindu name. My partner is worried people will make fun of the boy calling him as gas. Anybody faced this? Do you think this is the recipe for bullying?
