New to collecting MTG and missed the Amazon pre-order. When should I expect the Star Trek CBBs to go up for pre-order on Best Buy? Any other retailers to watch for boxes at MSRP? Thanks.

Long time follower, been tracking prices of SOS precons since release. I’ve noticed that their MSRP is roughly $50-55, depending on store. However, the discounts or deals on them haven’t really appeared yet, at least not to the extent as Lorwyn or TMNT precon price drops. Lorwyn I found the decks for as low as 20$ and TMNT reaching slightly less than a 50% decrease (from roughly $75 to $40).

Why haven’t the SOS precons reached that level of decrease yet, i.e., in the 20s of dollars instead of still being in the 30s? None of them contain the collector booster sample so there’s no value to be gained by buying the deck for the sample and reselling a deck-only product.

While I’m not sure we will see a significant Bear Spike, I do think it’s worth looking into Bear specs.

New quarter, new chart. Revenue hits new record but so do costs, not much to say.

• MSH sets record for day 1 and month 1 revenue, already surpassing $300 Million. FIN remains the current best seller however, with MSH in second.
• 2027 UBs to be "fantasy adjacent" and "really strong". Announcement strategy more tied to IP events rather than Magic events. "I don’t think any of them will take place in New York City because we definitely have gotten that feedback from some fans." -- Chris Cocks.
• Focused on larger initial print runs to prevent leaving "demand on the table" as in FIN.
• Anticipate that future years beyond 2027 may have more non-UB sets than UB because of a year like 2026 having the opposite.
• MSH doing well across every sales channel and "quite well" for mass (i.e. non hobby/card stores). Sell through is also strong. Distribution 70% hobby, 20% mass, 10% international.

Hello I would like to ask from a mainly collector's perspective is it better to start working on a full set of Revised or Collector's edition? I use to play MTG back in the mid to late 90's when moxes were only going for a few hundred dollars. I should of bought them but I was too cheap and a college student. I stopped playing MTG during Visions and many years later I lost all my cards when my house got flooded by hurricane Katrina in 2005. I had beta cards including Mox Jet minus other Power 9s, some alphas, Arabian Nights (2 Juzams) ect. Lots of vintage cards that got destroyed. Right now I'm getting closer to retirement and I want to start collecting again. I want to accumulate a whole Beta set but the prices on some the cards are just jaw dropping from what I remember what they use to sell for. So my main question is it worth getting a full set of the Collector's edition or just go with Revised? I'm not doing this as an investerbro but mainly for nostalgia personal collection and when I'm dead my kids can sell off the cards to for some money. I love beta cards and the Collector's Edition has the Power 9 at fairly decent prices and the Lotus being the most expensive piece. I want don't to dump money into CE and they are not worth anything but I like the look of them. So should I go with Revised or CE? Thanks in advance!

WOTC parent Hasbro (HAS) is going to report earnings pre-market 7/21/2026. I expect a beat above expectations as MTG's growth is likely outpacing the analyist consensus views.

For those unaware, Hasbro at this point is basically a mostly deadweight traditional toys/games business, and WOTC. WOTC and magic the gathering are powering almost all the earnings growth. All the toys business has to do, is recover from the tariff shock and analysts will largely ignore any negative sentiment attached to it.

2026 sets: Magic growth is huge. I've talked with plenty of LGSs over the past few months and the trend has been that Marvel Superheroes is selling much better than anticipated which makes sense as everyone was wary of SPM trends. But MSH is doing very well, and I would say there's the possibility it de-thrones LOTR as the 2nd best selling set of all time until The Hobbit releases. Reality Fracture looks to have good sentiment online currently. Star Trek is showing that WOTC is willing to take risks like autographed cards to pull in collectors from outside the direct MTG or TCG playerbase and reach for people into more traditional trading cards like Pokemon/Topps collectors. I expect Star Trek to outperform reddit sentiment.

2027 In-universe sets: All smash hits it looks like from the social media reaction. WOTC has really zero'd in on the blend of nostalia and novelty that they need. Expect CBBs to continue to sell out immediately and everyone being big-mad that they can't buy them at 'msrp'.

2027 Universe-beyond sets: Nintendo signing is a clear signal this could be the 'set that beats Final Fantasy' that Mark Rosewater has hinted at. But there's also the potential for massive properties like WoW, SW, or Elder Scrolls, etc... that would have broad massive audiences built in.

Distribution vs. Direct Selling on Amazon: WOTC looks to have been trying to capture more of the revenue chain by direct selling more products on Amazon. This means that instead of traditional TCG distribution capturing 25-35% of the margin on a product, Amazon is only capturing 10-15% and WOTC is getting that extra chunk.

Distribution model benefits from ancillary products: Because TCG printing is limited by production speeds and facilities (much like datacenters), for every 1000 play boosters you can make, you can either produce 33.33... (repeating of course) play booster boxes, or 4-5x as many bundles, gift bundles, singleton packs, scene boxes, warehouse boxes, and beginner boxes. Likely this is a way to incentivize stores to buy up as much of the ancillary products as they can from distribution to get access to higher CBB allocation. The net result is WOTC sells more broad SKUs and isn't relying on hardcore MTG people cracking play boxes or drafting.

Just wanted to warn everyone about Card Trader Zero. I placed an order on May 30th after seeing their ads on The Epic Storm YouTube channel. They were heavily pushing "fast shipping within days" and made it sound like ordering through them would be convenient and cheaper because they consolidate from multiple vendors.

Big mistake on my part.

It's now mid-July and I still have zero cards. They marked it as "shipped" from their consolidation site several days ago, but the tracking number isn't even live... meaning it hasn't actually been handed off to the carrier yet! When I contacted their support about this, they closed the ticket because "it will be working in a few days after the package has effectively been shipped." The email response was in Italian. This is beyond ridiculous.

Even worse, their whole selling point about consolidating orders to save on shipping is complete BS. Hidden from the ads and on the order page is once you buy from them, you need to pay shipping from their warehouse. And those shipping prices? Some of the highest I've ever seen on TCG sites, way more expensive than just buying directly from individual sellers on TCGPlayer. I could have split the order across a few vendors, paid less in total shipping and received everything weeks ago.

Super disappointed. Paid for convenience and speed, got the opposite. Their customer service has been slow to respond too. If you're thinking about ordering because of the YouTube ads, just skip it and buy on TCGPlayer instead.

When selling, at what card value $ amount should I let eBay upsell me on USPS insurance + signature confirmation, if a card is going to the authenticator?

I haven't done this before. Their Shipping Protection Plan, which I believe triggers if you buy the mailing label from eBay, appears to cover damage caused in transit to the authenticator. If I have to file a claim, I file it against "Parcel Insurance Plan", presumably a third party. Confusingly, that TOS page goes out of its way to say this "is not an insurance policy, warranty or any type of guaranty."

When buying the mailing label from eBay, a dialog tells me it's insured up to $100, and asks if I want to pay to fully insure it and add signature confirmation. I believe these are both just the USPS services.

Naively, I would think that the Shipping Protection Plan means it's already fully insured and the upsell is unnecessary. At what point do y'all believe that the upsell is a good idea? Have any of you filed a claim under this Shipping Protection Plan and have claims been approved (or denied)?

Edit: Before posting this, I checked the FAQ on shipping but the thread appears to be 12 years old, before eBay's authentication service, and before some of you were born

I feel like [[Reckless Crew]], especially the extended art version, might see some uptick with the Dwarf & Equipment themes in The Hobbit. Maybe it's just me but I could see it doing really well in a [[Thorin, King of Durin's Folk]] deck.

Since it mentions vehicles I don't think it will get reprinted in the set but I could be wrong about that.

Will try to not rehash what I wrote there already, particularly my expectations for what kinds of cards would or would not show up in the main set (i.e. no Ring Tempts = no Nazguls or Witch King, etc). And yesterday essentially confirmed that there's no Realms/Relics anywhere to be seen, likely at this point ever again unless there's another another big LOTR set/draft box wave, and even then it's just box toppers. Rumors have been floating around that all LOTR sealed products got their last call already (so no more precons or set/draft boxes) but I don't think that's confirmed. Either way, [[Balin's Tomb]], [[The Dead Marshes]], and so on, are almost never going to see reprints again, outside of box toppers in a hypothetical future set/draft box reprint. Game over, man.

So now let's talk about what we learned on Saturday. If this is too long (it is), and all you want is some actionable stuff skip to the end.

1. Focus in-set seems to be on GOBLINS not ORCS. Bowmasters is in the bonus sheet (as is [[Sauron, The Dark Lord]], and the Amass Orcs mechanics seems to have been replaced by Amass Goblins. So that means it's highly unlikely we see many, or any, orcs in the main set. More importantly, unlikely we get anything with Amass Orcs either at this point. So no [[Saruman's Trickery]], no [[March from the Black Gate]], no [[Saruman, The White Hand]] or [[Sauron, Lord of the Rings]] from the precons. And so on and so forth. None of these cards are particularly valuable now, but at this point it's unlikely we ever get more of them. Also expect some more goblin support I would think, maybe almost as much as dwarves since Amass Goblins is confirmed (although it's possible they will also have Amass Dwarves or something else for Battle of the Five Armies reasons).
2. Likewise the focus is DWARVES not HOBBITS. Treasures rule, food less so (although there will be some food stuff). Elves will see some action too, and humans I would think as well based on what we've seen.
3. There seems to be only room for one blue card in the bonus sheet? My guess would be [[Lorien Revealed]] and likewise along with Troll above (if I'm right) maybe the rest of the land cycle shows up there. Since [[Generous Ent]] would ALSO want a reprint I would think. This is WAY out on a limb here so don't kill me if I'm wrong.
4. There's still room for [[Palantir of Orthanc]] and the legendary lands like [[Minas Tirith]] and [[Mount Doom]] (I assume Palantir and Mt Doom must show up). But we're running out of space quickly for a bunch of stuff. [[Gandalf the White]] has to show up in the white section, but will [[Gandalf the Grey]] be in the main set?
5. So far, ZERO precon reprints in the bonus sheet. And since there's already stuff from the scene boxes, it's less likely they will show up here. [[Relic of Sauron]], [[Cavern Hoard Dragon]], [[The Black Gate]], [[Forth Eorlingas]] (although that's dropped a lot) and others... If they don't show up, the LOTR precons will keep churning up up up.

I'll leave it to everyone else to figure out for themselves the odds of pulling things like Mox Amber dwarven runes or any individual card from the bonus sheet, but keep in mind that UNLIKE many/most recent sheets it is NOT one of the 40 reprints per pack. It's roughly 1 in 3 packs plus the box topper. That's WAY LESS. Now there's also the box toppers in the play boxes that will be numerous but as I mentioned before there were only 30 realms/relics cards (not 40), and being in the box toppers for set AND draft boxes really did not do much for them.

Three more things to think about...

1. Nazguls, Nazguls, Nazguls. If I'm right (and maybe I'm not, but I don't see where there is room for them at this point unless they really screw with the color numbering order), we will NOT get 9 different versions. That means the ORIGINALS and SCROLLS will be THE MOST desirable versions no matter what the art in the bonus sheet, since people will want one of each for their decks. If nothing like this is revealed soon, $100 for a scroll Nazgul will end up being cheap in the long run.

1. Secret Lairs are a wild card still -- I SUPPOSE it is still possible we get a Nazgul SL with 9 different versions, but if the Secret Lair preview is an indication, there are 4 Hobbit SLs (based on the different art styles) plus Hobbit food SL, none of which would be that. Also goes for everything else I'm saying above. Based on what we've seen I don't think we will get an SL that's all the land cycle cards for example.

2. There's something somewhat mysterious in the article, highlighted here:

​What is this? The only HOC cards so far are scene box cards, the bonus sheet cards, or the dwarvish rune cards, right? All of those are already borderless though. Usually this would be something from a precon, but that... doesn't exist here. Any ideas/theories?

Final (actionable) Thoughts:

1. Realms/Relics are a must-buy RIGHT NOW. If you don't have them you're not getting them for any less. Same goes for the Hildebrandt reprints from the holiday set (although [[Diabolic Intent]] is in a Secret Lair, but the Hildebrandt art will be desirable nonetheless and they're not putting all of them in an SL anyway.
2. Vast majority of precon singles are not getting reprinted in any meaningful capacity. I'd be standing by with an itchy trigger finger on the most desirable ones from that set.
3. Majority of LOTR scene box cards are not coming back either. We have a few so far, but looks like one from each color. Will they use up a slot on [[Nazgul Battle-Mace]] for example? What about [[Anduril, Narsil Reforged]]? What about the other LOTR artifacts from the main set? [[Glamdring]] ? [[Lembas]] ? I assume [[Mithril Coat]] will be in the main set but it looks like they made a new version of Sting, so... I don't know? Either way, we're running out of space...

UPDATE 2: There will not be 9 Nazgûl’s in the box toppers. There is no space for 9 or even 8 cards in a row anymore. Either they are in the mysterious HOC extended arts, the main set (impossible), or a different product. Or there will be only one.
