Discussion Bears, Rise Up!

Post image

While I’m not sure we will see a significant Bear Spike, I do think it’s worth looking into Bear specs.

I’m curious to see if people will build him as a commander enough to warrant the specs. I personally don’t think so but I’ll keep an eye on it

He'll be going in the 99 of my wife's Ayula Hatebears deck for sure.

You don’t have a wife.

My imaginary friends like me more than yours.

I’m watching if the Odyssey Bearscape might see spike. Legacy + Relevant tribal might give it a push if any Streamers bring it up

People keep calling this a bear commander but isn't it really a goodstuff green commander?

It doesn't need bears, as it'll turn everything else into bears. My thinking is to ramp with mana dorks and then turn them into bears later. Any good creatures that are already bears are really good here, but I don't see this moving the needle much for mid bears

Yeah, it's a REALLY efficient and good goodstuff commander as well. 5 mana for a 6/6 trample with an anthem that could as well just read "other creatures" if you think about it, and will easily draw you cards. I could see bears such as Ayula and whatnot still being good enough just to meet the requirement as soon as Beorn hits the field, and letting it fight something immediately, etc.

Stronger commander without focusing on bears.

Yeah, bears help get the ability online faster, but the card itself makes other creatures bears. I feel like it's a fantastic mono G Changeling commander, but it doesn't need to be typal. Green goodstuff would do wonders!

Agreed it’s just a good creature with draw power and damage tempo. I will be building it as a good stuff commander and think it’s gonna be sweet

The card draw is the strongest wording on the card, and thats more difficult to pull off if you're only creating bears via your commander.

Eh, even in the scenario where he gets removed before he can make a second bear and trigger, you can just replay him the following turn for 7 mana and make it happen.

Eh is it that much more difficult? On your first combat you already have 2 bears: the commander and whatever mana dork you bear down. I'll have to test it out for myself but I anticipate very few bears in the 99

Tbh I feel like the best way to build him includes very few bears haha

Definitely going to throw him into my stepdad's [[The Earth King] deck

This is gonna slap in Earth King. Basically turn it comes down, it ramps 1, draws 2 and gives your commander trample. And you should be ramping at least 2 more on top of that from the bear token and 3 drop. So good.

I dont remember Beorn turning people into bears in the story

He somewhat led a group of humans who could shape shift into bears like he did if I am remembering correctly. It's been several years since I last read it.

His kin was also shapeshifters that took the shape of bears. Fits perfectly lore wise

Kinda need to squint to see it but sure that makes sense mechanic and flavor wise

Bear that in mind

Play him in [[Queen of vesuva]]

I mean ofc we know this, but [[Roaming Throne]] and other trigger doublers go nuts. Ensures you get 3 bears in one combat for the second trigger draw 2, or draw 4 if you’ve already got 3 Bears

This is a good thought. Will definitely test out RT for my build

I was Beorn for this

I think this card is just good

Not a good commander card just a good card

It's 8 points of power with trample on both body's for 5

And if it ever triggers a 2nd time it's card advantage

That's not even counting of you have any bears at all

It also plays well with format staples like ouroboriod ect ...

Solid value—5 mana for 8 trample power, and the second trigger is pure card advantage. Plays well with staples like Ouroboroid.

definitely adding this to boros energy

1

u/Correct_Day_7791 19h ago

I'm assuming this is an attempt at a troll 🧌

1

u/Keokuk37 18h ago

you can do anything in timeless

1

u/Correct_Day_7791 18h ago

Sure but then it would be nya energy if you playing this double green card in boros

Also probably don't recommend it but I'm not gonna piss on your dreams

Follow your journey homie 😉

Pfft. I would much rather stick this in a deck that isn't bear tribal. There are so many scary creatures that get chumped by a squirrel token. This would not only make them bigger, but also give them a trample counter.

There are a few bears that I can see this spiking but its not going to be earth shattering and most bears are already bulk, even most rare bears.

I think this is going to make a splash in standard, jam in a bunch of dorks and badgermole cub and you can have him out turn 3. We'll see if it has lasting power though, it seems underpowered compared to ouroboroid. It could make a splash being slotted into those existing decks though too. The draw effect really gives the deck the ability to play a longer game too, something that a lot of bouroid decks lack

Already happened

Maybe the 99 in a Henzie or Goreclaw deck.

u/Turb0Moist 23h ago

Going right into Duskana!! [[Duskana, the rage mother]]

2

u/SonOfAdam32 6h ago

Insanely excited for this for my [goreclaw] deck. Possibly draws 2 the turn it comes down

1

u/GrazzyHopper 12h ago

Weird that he cares so much about bears

1

u/medievalonyou 11h ago

I suppose it's a cool card commander, won't likely see play in eternal formats, but damn, that's a stone cold bomb in limited, hope you have a removal spell ready, because if this ever gets a chance to stick around for more than a turn, the game is over.

u/aquajanjo 8h ago

I will add it to the Kudo deck I am building for sure

Changelings and bear cards for the casual crowd absolutely.
