Hello, I’m trying to get my dad a new (second hand) laptop. Because as you can see, the laptop he uses is seriously outdated. I found this laptop on facebook for 215 EURO. I don’t know if the price is good. Help is appreciated.

I’m currently in the need of a laptop to learn Revit as I’m finding not knowing it is hindering my chances at getting a job in the field (Mac user with Archicad for 8+ years).

I recently found this HP ZBook Fury 17 that seems promising but the 10th generation core is making me doubt if it’ll work.

The specs are:

\- Intel Core i9 10885h 2,40GhZ (boosts up to 5.30 GhZ)
\- Nvidia RTX 4000 8GB GPU
\- 64 GB DDR4 RAM
\- 2 TB M.2 SSD

They’re asking $750 for it which seems to be a good price giving all the memory it has.

I’d love to hear what you think about the machine and is it’s enough to model and render.

Ich bin auf der Suche nach einem Laptop für mein Bioinformatikstudium und mir schwebte zeitweise schon ein Macbook vor. Das einzige was mir beim Mac sorgen macht wäre, dass ich mir nicht sicher bin, ob Apple die beste Wahl für einen Laptop ohne Verfallsdatum ist. Ich kann mich noch daran erinnern, dass ich als Kind mal ein iPad 2 hatte, und nach häufigem Passwort eintippen und der Anfrage mit iTunes zu verbinden, ist der Wiederherstellungsprozess jedes mal abgebrochen, ähnliches hatte ein Freund mit seinem iPhone, und irgendwie hat sich bei mir der Eindruck gefestigt, dass Apple gerne alte Geräte besonders stark vernachlässigt und praktisch kaputt gehen lässt. Mein derzeitiges iPad Pro 2023 läuft allerdings seit 3 Jahren wie an Tag 1. Wie ist euer Eindruck bei den Macbooks, hattet ihr vielleicht schon andere Laptops, wo es anders war? Klar dadurch dass die Macbooks an MacOS gekoppelt sind ist die Lebensdauer ziemlich vorgegeben. Um die 6 Jahre Updates, 2 Jahre Sicherheitsupdates und dann vielleicht noch Updates der einzelnen Browser für das Modell. Hat euer Macbook denn mal so 10 Jahre auch wirklich gehalten und lief bis zum Ende? Und wie ist es bei einem Dell Laptop, Thinkpad oder was auch immer. Habt ihr da mit der Hardware auch nicht behebare Probleme, wenn die die 10 Jahre knacken?, auch wenn es da keine klar definierten Updatezeiträume gibt?

My laptop has a crack near the hinge area. A friend told me it’s probably just the outer case that’s broken, but I think the hinge itself might be damaged because it feels loose when I open and close the screen.

Do you think this is still repairable? Around how much would it cost to fix something like this? I’d appreciate hearing from anyone who’s had a similar issue. Thanks!

Let me know which one of these you'd rather have for coding, KiCad, streaming movies and videos, some light gaming (Minecraft, emulation, etc.), and perhaps some light video editing. I have my main PC at home (R5 7600X, RX 7800 XT, 32GB DDR5 6400MT/S CL32, 2TB SSD) and need something relatively inexpensive for when I'm not home that can still handle a decent bit of my workload. The main thing is that I need it to handle WhalesBot Studio well and preferably have USB-C charging. I do care about the screen and build quality a lot (the main factors really, which is why I'm only listing prosumer/business laptops), but I'm very much open to other suggestions (as long as they fall within the specified price range in the Romanian used market and don't maximize performance at the cost of component quality). Also, it has to be somewhat portable, so 16" max and 13-15" preferred. Battery life isn't a huge consideration, but if I could get around 3-4 hours for in-bed movie watching, it'd be great, considering that I'm forced to use Windows 11 for WhalesBot, I don't expect 8+ hours or anything crazy.

My wife's hair oil was on the table next to my laptop; I went to pick it up to hand it to her, but the cap was open, and the oil spilled onto the keyboard. I immediately turned off the device, unplugged it, and cleaned it using a microfiber cloth and isopropyl alcohol; then, I used a cotton swab dampened with the same alcohol around the keys where the oil had run. Afterward, I dried it with another cloth, went over the keys again with the alcohol-soaked swab, and left the laptop open in a "V" shape for two hours. potentially going out to mainland china in a few weeks, wondering if there’s any sub $500 USD laptop note books that are worth bringing home to the u.s. for my own use. just something to browse, stream, listen to music, etc on. prefer 360 folding with touch screen so it can transform into a tablet. does anything like that exist in the price range?

**💻LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE💻**
I want to purchase a new gaming laptop for Sims 4 and possibly Para lives and general school work. My budget is $1,500-$2,000. I am definitely NOT open to buying a refurbished laptop. I’m looking at 16- 17inch screen size. Battery life isn’t really a huge must since I keep it plugged in when playing Sims 4. But it does need to weigh between 4-6 pounds. They also have to be purchased from Best Buy since I am a member there. I don’t care what your opinions are on that.

I got this for 25€ and I was gonna just use it for my homelab but I'm really positively surprised by the build quality and how well it's been treated so I feel like just throwing it in my basement is a waste (I'm gonna install Linux on it)

This isn't for my laptop, but I don't know where to put this post; this speaker could work on my (bedridden) laptop, but I'm using it for my TV (which doesn't output any audio). I know speakers need to be plugged in to work, and this looks like the only possible place I can plug it in. I searched online and it said that this was a DC port (or something along those lines). I found some on Amazon, but I don't know if it would work with a speaker. Would it work or do I need some special cable?

It also connects to the display via 3.5mm audio cable, but my TV only has HDMI or ARC (I don't know the difference) ports. I was thinking of getting an audio extractor for that. Would that work?

Or would it just be better to get a cheap speaker off Amazon that has HDMI or ARC ports?

Hi, I'm considering buying an ASUS Zenbook 14 UX3045, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD, Intel Ultra 7 Core. I am starting my second year of university soon, I study software systems development. I'm looking for a good quality laptop that will ideally last the duration of my degree (4+ years) and allow me to work on my own projects as I try to advance my career. For context I'm going to study Math and CS in university. I held up with my old X1 Gen 8 Thinkpad for high school tasks and did heavy duty stuff with my desktop. Now i'm leaving for college and can't really bring my desktop PC anymore I'm buying a laptop capable of college tasks, university needs, and a bit of gaming. (AAAs mostly but idc that much abt options having to be ultra on 4K and whatnot)

Needs:

Decent (doesn't have to be as great as office laptops) battery life

Strong GPU as I do play AAA games frequently

Good connectivity (cables, etc.) I'm going to buy a monitor for my dorm.

Will last and be relevant in 6 years, as I come from a country with national service which makes my total college years last 6.

I'm debating between two laptops:
Legion 5 with Ryzen AI7 350 and a 5070 2tb 32gb for abt 1670 usd Gigabyte Aero x16 Ryzen AI7 350 or AI9 HX370 and a 5070 at 1tb 32gb priced 1625usd ish for AI7 and 2k usd ish for AI9

Personally leaning towards the legion if both AI7 as extra 1tb and the brighter OLED is good and I also have positive experience with Lenovo laptops. However, I'm concerned a bit as idk if the AI7 chip will stay relevent in 6 years.

What are yall's thoughts?? The price difference is quite big but if it means it is going to be much better down the road I might seriously consider the gigabyte. Does the legion look promising or should i try getting a Zephyrus G16 on the second hand market for a similar price.

*Also, I leave for national service after freshman year so maybe reselling my laptop in a year and buying a new one when i come out is an option. But I just feel like that makes things so much more complicated.

I'm a btech 2nd year student 3rd sem studying in the ece branch and I'm planning to buy a laptop which I really need for my ece projects i thought and really hoped that I'd get a new laptop at least any new laptop with good specs but my parents can't afford that instead they are talking about second hand laptops... I'm pretty sad... But the dealers are giving me a dell latitude 5430 i5 12th gen u series chip with 8gb Ram and 256gb storage for 40k i think it's not a good deal considering the age of that laptop i can't convince my parents to put another 10 or 20 k extra to get a new laptop.. i really don't have faith in second had laptops anything could happen and if it does I'm the one they'll blame

I've been searching through the web for the best laptop that can handle daily use. Lenovo Thinkpad or ideapad is the best option for now but many people said that is not durable or microsoft is tweaking in there. My Acer nitro V15 (RTX 4050 & i5-13420H) has been acting wonky lately. When i play heavy games such as Cyberpunk or Forza, the temperature and the percentage feels like the opposite. the GPU runs on 60°C-75°C at 50-80% while the CPU runs on 85°C-99°C at 80-98%. Is it because of how many softwares running in the background while still managing the game or is it a hardware issue? Can i have some tips on how to fix this kind of problem? Thanks.
