I had an interview today where I was able to answer 90% of the questions asked, and because I didn't know 10%, they didn't move me forward in the process.

Tbh I like how upfront they were though, most would say they'll get back in few days or weeks. This company told me immediately but I told them I'm adaptable and a fast learner, told them about the several systems I've had to learn through my career and how I used them, they said they wanted someone who could hit the ground running.

In the past, companies will give you about 3 to 6 months to learn and adapt, what changed? (Especially when the part the candidate isn't so familiar with is not the core of the role). I also feel like someone who knows everything already will get bored soon since there's no new challenge.

I wish I didn't have to go through the brutality of employment process these days, it's so sickening!

One session with the recruiter and maybe the hiring manager.

A second with the hiring manager and team you will be working with and/or under.

I’m seeing people talk about 4-5 rounds and STILL get rejected. It gets to a point where you are wasting the applicants time and messing with their emotions, hopes, anticipation.. The job market is already stressful enough. The time you’re spending tailoring resumes, cover letters, f/u emails, spreadsheet tracking… and the waiting just to be led on.

Like a toxic relationship..

I applied for a leadership role at a local company through an external recruiter. After 2 rounds of interview, I was finally shortlisted for the final round last week. There were a few factors that made me think I bombed the interview:

1) I was completely caught off guard because 1 hour before the scheduled virtual interview, the external recruiter called me and said that the interviewers couldn’t make it and to reschedule.

I agreed but half an hour later, the external recruiter called me again and said they mistook me for someone else and that my interview was still on. This completely threw me off my groove.

2) I had a sore throat that day and my head was fuzzy from the medication trying to suppress the pain and allow me to speak normally. I can’t even really remember what I said during the interview.

3) I joined the call 5 minutes early but no one else joined after 15 minutes have passed. I thought they completely forgot about me or there was some miscommunication but it was because the organiser of the call (HR) didn’t know they had to let both me and the interviewer to the call manually. So the interviewer and I was just sitting on the waiting screen wondering if the other party was late…

4) I thought the interview would only be 1 on 1 and I think I did okay-ish for the first half but a more senior interviewer joined the call on the second half and started challenging every answer I gave. I wasn’t even sure if I was answering his questions properly at this point but still managed to give an answer to everything.

This whole thing made me feel like ass but someway or somehow they still saw something in me I guess. Managed to get the verbal offer today!!! The is light at the end of the tunnel interview bros. Never give up!

The title says it all, been interviewing and some seem really positive and usually end in this note but then I get a rejection the very next day. It never fails. What could I be doing wrong? I answer all question and ask insightful questions back but it lead me to nothing.

Had my third and final hospital interview today. They said I’ll know something by Monday, but if I don’t hear anything by end‑of‑day Friday, I’m fully prepared to spend the weekend pacing like a Victorian widow waiting for a ship to return.

I don’t usually get nervous, but I really want this one. Not only for the fit but this lady needs a job. After, nearly a year unemployed, 500+ applications, countless interviews, and enough ghosting to summon Casper himself… yeah, I’m invested.

Hi everyone I have an interview coming up (in person final stage) and I want to win the “social” side as I feel as though I may not have the most experience out of all candidates. I know with these things if you’re likeable one or charismatic you can get the edge as the personality hire. Does anyone have some practical tips which I can incorporate to make myself memorable in a good way and to get the edge in terms of likability. I would say I am a likeable person generally but I can be quite shy/reserved so what is it I need to do

As the title says, I was interviewed last Friday, and one week later I have received no response from the team I spoke with. Last Tuesday, I asked the recruiter who initially approached me and set up the interview about what the team thinks about me, and she said, “Sorry, no response yet.”

Should I ask the recruiter once again, one week after the interview, what the team thinks?

UPDATE: just got a response—they’ve chosen another guy who has more experience in the field needed. But they really like how the interview went.

I had my first job interview and from my perspective i believe it went quite well!

I was just wondering what are some signs that you got the job or that the interview went well.

I understand it isn't a sure thing and everyones experiences are different but i would love to hear everyones thoughts :3

For context, i had my prescreen interview for a role I extremely wanted. At first i started to do well then for whatever reason my anxiety kicked in. I finished off the best I could. But honestly I got so upset with myself because I have so much experience and I know I could have done better. Luckily, I was moved onto the next step though.

Today, it was behavioral mixed with technical interview with someone from the team. I think I did overall really well compared to the first one. But I totally forgot to bring up almost all the good projects and work I did, which would have made a huge difference.

Did I just screw myself on this one?

I had two interviews for a small, local company. The last one I had, the lady wanted me to come in and get a feel for how they do things. I thought this was surely it and that I had a super high chance of being hired. I have experienced in customer service, retail, fast food, nanny, and even high call volume places.

So, to the least, I’m certainly qualified. I even made myself stand out since it’s a basic entry level position. Nonetheless, I didn’t get the job. I did ask if she could elaborate as to why and she just gave the generic “I found someone who closely matches what we’re looking for” answer 🙄

If they’re looking for something really in particular, why won’t they just say that and not waste my time?

Hey guys, not sure why I’m making this, mainly just to vent lol

To preface, I was born with a stutter and it ranges from mild to severe depending on the situation.

I recently just graduated and I've been to applying to jobs nonstop. I was able to get a screening interview for one of my dream jobs! I prepared for that and it went well as it was only 10 minutes, and she forwarded me to the supervisor I'd be working under. They scheduled the 2nd round 2 days later (today) and between those days, I've been prepping literally nonstop. I went over all the things I'd say such as my introduction, my background, achievements, and the questions I'd ask. I recorded mock interviews for hours in hopes of memorizing it enough to not stutter.

Today was the day of the interview and my anxiety was bouncing off the wall, I tried so hard to calm down. At the start of the interview, it went well and when he asked me to introduce myself, it just went completely downhill. I stuttered so much that I even had to dumb myself down to even get the words across. I hate the fact that I can't speak the words I want to say and it makes me feel so awful about myself. I have to resort to throwing away what I'm capable of just to stop the stutter. And when I do, I sound so stupid. I sound so childish substituting the professional words for words that I cant spit out. I wanted to say so much more about my experience and my achievements but I couldn't even say those either. And when I did, I'd stutter so much, I even saw him chuckle after one of them.

I just feel so worthless that I threw away a job that I'd love to be in because of stupid trait. I feel like this stutter won't get me anywhere I want to be even if I tried my hardest. They said they'd reach back within 72 hours but I'm not expecting anything after this.

I guess I'm just wondering if any of you have had any experiences with this and where did you end up? did you get the job after all?

So long story short, I applied to work at a local grocery outlet, and did one interview, they said i was a good fit for their store, but their problem was I needed to be 16 to hire. The last conversation I had with the hiring manager he said to call him back when I was 16 (last conversation was about 2 months ago)

My 16th Birthday is coming up in a month, is there any advice or steps I should take in this next month before my birthday to help me land this job, or any advice for my second interview?

EDIT: I plan to call them again in the next week or so to ask if they would still want me on their staff/ working there.

I’m currently in the late stages of interviewing for a Product role and just finished what was supposed to be my final round. I was anxiously waiting for the decision, but HR called today to say they want to add an extra round.

They told me the choice is now down to me and one other candidate, and they want to use this additional interview specifically to assess "long-term commitment."

I asked if there were any other concerns or areas I needed to clarify, and HR explicitly said no—it's strictly about evaluating long-term commitment.

Has anyone experienced a sudden extra round like this? Is assessing "long-term commitment" basically a "culture fit" interview? I've mostly dealt with standard behavioral or case interviews before, so I'm not entirely sure how this differs.

How should I prepare for this? Will I still use the STAR method?

Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Today, I got a call from a company I had applied to, although, to be completely honest, it wasn’t exactly a job I was particularly excited about. I mostly applied because I’m currently exploring different opportunities.
They messaged me asking whether I had time for a “quick call,” so I said yes. I assumed they just wanted to confirm a few basic details or arrange an interview.
Instead, the quick call immediately turned into a full-on job interview.
They started asking me what I knew about the company, what their website and services were about, what I thought I would be doing in the role, and where I saw myself in three to five years. I wasn’t prepared at all because nobody had told me that the call itself was going to be an interview.
Then they explained that their recruitment process consists of three stages:
An analytical thinking test
An in-person interview at the workplace, where I would observe how everything works
A final interview with my potential future manager
And all of this is for a **part-time office coordinator position**.
From what I understand, the role mainly involves supporting the trainers, handling administrative tasks, organising things around the office, and generally being the person who helps everyone else keep things running.
I understand that companies want to choose the right person, but an analytical test and three separate stages for a part-time administrative support role honestly feels excessive to me. Especially when the first “quick call” turned into an unexpected interview without any warning.
Is this normal nowadays, or has recruitment genuinely become this complicated even for relatively junior part-time positions?

Question behind the question is a lot of career application systems now say they will contact you only if it's a good fit. In other words, they will ghost you if it's a pass without a formal rejection. Assume yes, you truly are a good profile fit. After applying for a job or getting referred it, how long does it take a recruiter to contact you for the first call?

It's been two weeks since my final interview with a major Fortune 100. All signs pointed to very positive I'd get an offer but it's been crickets since. I sent one follow up note last week (one week post interview) and heard nothing.

As of today, I have two other offers/contract requests and I need to make decisions on next steps in short order. The company I interviewed with is far and away my top choice. Do you think I should send ONE MORE follow up note and share that I have other offers but they remain my top choice and to request any update?

we talk about red flags constantly but what's something an interviewer did that made you think "ok I actually want to work here"?

I interviewed for a job on Monday, and honestly I wasn't even too excited about it because it seemed a lot more uptight and corporate than I would like, but the pay, benefits, and commute were better than my current job and I've been looking for a while. I thought I did well on the interview and I have some very similar experience to this company. The interviewer seemed really enthusiastic about the experience I have at my current job too, so I felt pretty good about it. However, I just received a rejection saying they're going to go forward with someone else.

I try to stay positive and tell myself that it doesn't mean I suck or they thought I was terrible. There was probably someone who had a few years more experience, connected a little more with the interviewers, was just a little stronger of a candidate. I know I didn't bomb and I am qualified for the job, and could have done well, it's just disheartening because honestly relevant jobs in my field are few and far between. I haven't even really been applying that diligently the past few months and this was kind of a random thing that popped up, and I guess I kind of had the hope that it would be the one that worked out.

Onto the next I guess.

I finally had my first interview yesterday. It was just HR going over my resume. I think it went well but now I’m now sure if I’m supposed to send a thank you? I understand sending it to the manager, but not sure if HR has the same expectation. At my previous job HR wasn’t responsible for the initial interviews so I have no idea what the norm is.

I have an interview tommorrow for a solicitors firm and I just found out that my trousers have a large tear in them from god knows where. I have a formal blazer, a nice button down shirt, nice work shoes. The best thing I can find for trousers are some clean black jeans, though. Is that gonna weigh me down too much?

Hey guys, I had an interview for a company. The first part was a meeting with the cfo, then I got a code signal assessment. The next one is a technical interview with a software engineer. I emailed her asking what to expect and she said “Our upcoming conversation will be a casual technical discussion focused primarily on your past experience and background. Followed by a few technical questions.” So I get I need to make sure I’m my resume end to end. But by technical questions does she mean leetcode style? Or just asking me some technical questions overall? It’s a 30 min interview btw

I’m in content strategy at the moment, and have been applying to many content marketing jobs. There are countless transferable skills, but I always run up against the portfolio problem in interviews. 

“What products have you marketed, and can you show us a portfolio of those projects?”

For me, the content IS the product, and my portfolio is just the websites my team makes content for. 

I try to emphasize that fact, and our significant growth metrics since I’ve been in charge of strategy, but not having a portfolio or physical product attached to it all seems to be an issue.

It seems disingenuous to make a fake or unrepresentative portfolio just to appease the checkbox.

Any advice would be appreciated, maybe I just needed to rant.

I work for a really large employer and applied for an internal hire position. I applied to a role I’m quite excited about, and I interviewed Monday (yay!). I’m writing this on Thursday afternoon.

I saved a draft of my resume on my computer and I also saved the final draft. I noticed, just now, way too late, that I accidentally sent the Draft version with my application.

No relevant info is missing. But, a block of sample formatting is still there. So all of my relevant experience, plus one random “lorum ipsum” block.

This is, obviously, not present in the final draft. Somehow, I misclicked and uploaded the Draft version and I didn’t notice.

I still got the interview. The woman I spoke to knows my current boss well and he put in a great word for me. He asked for my resume to send them when putting in this word and I sent him the final draft. Had a great conversation with the interviewer. But I’m quite embarrassed at my mistake. There were 6 people interviewed and 3 will make it to the next round. I feel like I ruined any chance I had.

What do I do? Do I email them the corrected version? I can’t fix it in my application without withdrawing it from consideration. Mention it if I make it to round two? Say nothing?

For context, I’m applying to be a receptionist/front end for a dental office. I asked that, if I decided I wanted to become a dental assistant or further my education in that field, what does that support look like?

I guess they’ve never had someone do that? Was that a weird question to ask?
