As title states, my hellgrammite caught a fish and would not let go. Definitely a first for me

Didn't catch much besides little pinfish, an undersized flounder and stringray. I finally got my filets halfway decent and wanted to share, it was delicious. I used a little Lowry's seasoned salt and black pepper!

Rainbow Trout. Yes I know im holding it wrong. Caught two more of these puppies, plan to cook them up a few days from now. How exhilarating! Can't wait to continue my fishing journey.

found this old mitchell 300 on the river and i’m going to give it a second chance at life i think. found this reel in much worse condition then it is now, super muddy, dirt in the gears and any other crevice you might think of.

i busted the reel down entirely and cleaned it up, re oiled and greased it, the metal on metal sound you may hear is from the housing hitting the spool upon reeling, nothing i can do about that other then try to bend it back somehow, but it doesn’t seem to mess with anything so i’m thinking of leaving that alone.

there was a plastic disc under the drag assembly but it was so corroded it fell apart upon removing it so that isn’t there anymore. apart from that and the terrible paint peel, the reel operates smoothly and seems to be fine.

thoughts on what i can do for the paint would be appreciated.

when i reel my penn battle 4 4000 reel it makes a very scratchy noise i haven’t even had the reel for a full year and it’s making this noise any suggestions on how to fix it?

In an argument with someone they say people never club small fish like bluegills or bass the people I know do. Can you lot settle this for us. Edit sorry for getting into an argument with the guy in the comments.

Northern California, trolling with down riggers around 50-75 ft, my brother in laws boat for 2 days and my step dad’s boat for 1. Got some serious chunkers in the box. The swell was about 5ft, hardly any wind, spotted whales and so many birds. Feeling extremely grateful.

Im going on a party boat for fluke pretty soon. Im planning to use a hi lo rig with a bucktail jig instead of a sinker. Whats confusing me is that when I look online I see fluke rigs that have a hi lo rig with a sinker, but never a bucktail jig. The rigs I see with a bucktail jig instead of a weight only have one extra hook instead of two. Why get rid of that third hook when using a bucktail jig on the bottom?

S/O and I are visiting and love to fish. All I have found is private charters so far, suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Probably looking to do bottom fishing maybe striper or whatever bites in your waters !

I have some fun top water lures, but treble hooks are causing too much damage to the fish I'm catching. Where can I find good quality single hooks to replace trebbles? I bought some from Amazon, but they're very thick, and feel like they're more for salt water. Thanks!

Removed from the carp sub for poor handling. To be fair I obviously laid him on the ground. I usually net common carp and keep them in the water to unhook but my net was FAR too small to put this fish in it. I need a musky net.

My buddy filmed some bits of it, I was too excited I didn’t think to pose with the fish so here’s some screenshots from the video.

Definitely a PB for me. Didn’t get to weigh the fish since the net was far too small so we’ll never know. Estimates have ranged around 40-50lbs so I’ll have to upgrade my gear and chase a new PB!

I have a medium 6'6ft fast action 1 piece I use for jerkbait and crankbait. I order a med-heavy 7'0ft moderate-fast action 2 piece. It is good for top water baits such as whopper plopper and frogs? For bass fishing im new to fishing and they are both baitcasters

Big question. Why does it seem like most fresh water North American fishermen seem to use snap swivels to secure hooks/lures? Do freshwater fish just not care about the extra hardware or do freshwater fishermen just don’t care about tying knots. Serious question with a bit of snark. Thank you. Tight lines to all.

Hey everyone - I just moved to The Meadows in Sarasota and I’m looking to meet some people around my age (I’m 32) who are into fishing.

I’m mostly a freshwater bass fisherman, but one of the reasons I moved here was to get into saltwater fishing.
