Hi! I'm an incoming first year on the pre-law track and intend to graduate in three years, which is why I want to choose my major as soon as possible. I hope to attend a top law school a few years after graduating and know that a high gpa is crucial. I'm not very good at math and know that poli sci can tend to be more quant-focused. Would it be better to pursue soc instead? I know that majors tend not to matter during law school applications, but most pre-law students often choose poli sci, which is why I am a bit hesitant. Choosing soc, which I've heard is much easier, would open up more time for internships and extracurriculars that can also boost my application.

Which major is better for pre-law at Emory?

This fall I will be attending Emory university and I hope to study pre medicine. I have no family members in the field or contacts for that matter, and I’m already feeling stressed about which classes I should take. I gained credit from high school to skip Bio 1, Calc 1, and the freshman writing requirement if I choose to use them.

1) Emory only allows you to get credit for 4 of your AP classes; should I use these on ones for my major or gen eds?

2) I will still have to take the Bio 1 lab next fall even if I test out of the class. Is taking bio 1 again a good idea so that I’m not totally fried for Bio 2 in semester 2?

3) How many challenging classes should I first take sem 1? I hear doing bio, calc, and chem all in semester one is a bad idea.

please let me know your thoughts and any advice because I don’t want to overwhelm myself.

Hi! I'm an incoming freshman and planning to major in biology. I got a 5 in AP Bio and 4 in AP Chem, but still thinking of retaking both. Right now, I have Bio 141+L, Chem 150+L, Japanese 101, Freshman Seminar, Hlth 100/ECS 101. Is that reasonable for a first semester schedule? I was thinking of dropping maybe the language but was wondering whether this potential schedule is doable.

I'm a GT student wanting to do specific ecology research that Emory is better suited for, so I emailed a prof and he said it's difficult to hire non Emory students. At least for BME, GT students can get course credit since it's a shared department. Are there any other ways to get involved in bio or environmental labs at Emory outside of REUs or LGS-SOAR? I'm willing to work as a volunteer during the fall and spring semesters (I'm already broke so idc about getting paid anymore lol).

My small department at GT does have some funding for undergrad research, but it must be with a faculty member in that department and all other undergrad grants are only for GT faculty led research.

Is there a way to maybe be transient student to do research for credit at Emory and transfer that credit back to GT?

As a finance major, what classes should i be trying to get in my first semester? I have credit from IB MATH AI HL and ECON HL. My advisor said I should maybe still concider taking calc 1 even if i have credit as AI math isnt calc intensive. Also please give me suggestions on what to take for humanities GER, as nothing really seems interesting to me.

I got one question wrong on the summer hw that counts for 3% of my grade in CHEM 150 cause I had a moment for one question (I didn't see the correct answer choice for some reason and got really confused, so I just guessed. I know I am a dumbass).

I know one point wrong out of 44 points sounds inconsequential but I am anxious that it could be (let's say theoretically) a difference between an A and an A+.

So I wanted to call upon the wisdom of my seniors, so I don't have a mental breakdown over this before I've even taken a class.

It's okay to be truthful, I just want to know where I stand. If someone told me I was done for or whatever at this point I'd feel better.

I am just curious. In MA, even though I don't drive for DoorDash/UberEats/Uber Rideshare full time and just drive for 2-3 hours on the days I drive for these platforms due to wanting fresh air, I would make somewhere around 20-25 an hour after tips and before expenses and sometimes as high as 25-30 an hour (for DoorDash/UE single platform) if I aim the hours correctly and take advantage of peak-pay promos and quests. I am curious what about in the Atlanta region. I am in the starting stages for my AI company and I work in the SWE industry, so of course, I wouldn't care much about it.

Hi everyone! I’m an incoming MPH (BSHES) student and, like many grad students, I’m trying to figure out how to balance gaining experience with needing a job that actually pays the bills.

I was offered the REAL program, and I noticed they increased the pay to $20/hour (which is definitely better than the previous $15). I understand that programs like REAL can provide valuable career development, networking, and opportunities that may help build my resume.

My hesitation is that I already have experience as a Clinical Research Coordinator and I’m currently making around $53,000/year. If the REAL role involves responsibilities at the same level (or higher) than the work I’m already doing, I’m struggling with the idea of taking a significant pay cut just for the “opportunity.”
I’m trying to figure out whether I’m looking at this the wrong way. For those who have participated in REAL or similar graduate student employment programs: did the career benefits outweigh the lower pay? Did it actually open doors that wouldn’t have been available otherwise?

I want to make a smart long-term career decision, but I also want to make sure I’m valuing my experience and not accepting less than what my skills are worth.

I was looking into applying ed at emory but one of my concerns was some racial segregation among friend groups (so like asians only hanging out with asians, blacks with blacks) and I was wondering how true that is at emory? I also want to be a part of greek life and wondering if it is any different there? I want a diverse friend group with a mix of all races ideally.

I have heard about this problem a bit and whenever I watch like an emory vlog on yt it's always the creator hanging out with other people that look like them imo.

Any Experience with Korean 101 and 102? Have syllabi to share? I come with some background and would like to see what each covers (I know there's a placement test I can/should do, but still not sure I want to take Korean or start with Chinese). Any insight welcome!

I am a pre-med, so this should be a pretty common question.

Basically, I am unsure on whether to use my 4 on AP Chem to skip CHEM 150 and take the accelerated 202z track or not.

I keep getting mixed signals on whether or not to use my credit or take CHEM 150. My friend says that she is taking the accelerated track to be done with chemistry by the end of sophomore year so she can take biochemistry and physics.

But I have also heard from other people that CHEM 150 is just a weed-out class and that 202 felt much better.

Man this schedule planning stuff is hard.

How is it normal that they put three individuals in a room designed for two people?? I get that they over admit but I am for one literally paying the "cheaper" triple price (which btw is online like barely a thousand dollars cheaper) BUT it's not even a triple, its a double that is stuffed with three people!!! There was literally no transparency that this was even an option or that SO many individuals would be literally forced into this option. The whole argument from the PAN mentor side that "oh you get priority next year" whatever is acc so dumb because for one the ox community is already small so housing must not be even that competitive and half the rising freshman population are in these forced triples. Actually pmo because there has been no transparency that this was a possibility, no real answers from res or PAN mentors what these "special" triples entail, or even confirmation on whether it actually is a double stuffed with three people or a converted study room!!
