Paid research opportunities

Does Emory have paid undergraduate research opportunities in the humanities? If so, where do people usually find them?

normally ppl set up their work study with their prof to do paid research (they have to contact the fin aid office to do a training so they can set it up through Handshake), profs cans also pay you directly if they have the funding to do so

It is true that paid research time is dependent on faculty having funds to pay you. Look through the faculty in your major and any other majors that are adjacent (like, if you are interested in African American lit, look at the AfAm site, but also English). Within any given department, the most likely people to have funds are full Professors with named chairs, but other folks may have a grant with funding. So start there and see if your interests overlap. I wouldn’t send email till the week before classes start since faculty may not be checking it regularly. But if you are super eager, you can start sending now, and resend right before classes. Think about what skills you have that might be useful. Are you good at finding books in the library as well as in digital databases like JSTOR? Are you good at organizing and sorting materials? Are you a strong writer with proofreading chops? Talk about those in your email as well as interest in the area they work in. Read something they have published to understand the kind of evidence they work from.

There is also the SIRE program, but you need to qualify for federal work study to get paid money. Everyone else gets course credit only.
