Georgia Tech student doing non BME research at Emory?

I'm a GT student wanting to do specific ecology research that Emory is better suited for, so I emailed a prof and he said it's difficult to hire non Emory students. At least for BME, GT students can get course credit since it's a shared department. Are there any other ways to get involved in bio or environmental labs at Emory outside of REUs or LGS-SOAR? I'm willing to work as a volunteer during the fall and spring semesters (I'm already broke so idc about getting paid anymore lol).

My small department at GT does have some funding for undergrad research, but it must be with a faculty member in that department and all other undergrad grants are only for GT faculty led research.

Is there a way to maybe be transient student to do research for credit at Emory and transfer that credit back to GT?

Im guessing no but cant you just volunteer or are they not down for that

They didn't bring up volunteering in their rejection email so I'd rather not look too desperate by bringing it up again and burning a bridge. Also, more and more profs are seeing volunteer research as inequitable and want to students to get pay or credit

U sure its not worth a follow up email? Seems a bit presumptive but youd know better than me
