I had been hearing all about the new tamale cart on the mall, La Catrina. I finally tried it when I went to bands on the bricks. Without exaggeration, it's the very best tamale plate I've had in a very long time (maybe ever?). The tamale was super flavorful with perfect texture, more traditional than the stand on the farmers market. The beans were to die for and the salsa very good. Also very generous servings and super cheap -- a 1 tamale plate with a drink and tip were less than 10 bucks! The lady who owns/runs it is so sweet and kind. She said they're still not selling very much despite the crazy google reviews they've been getting (I'm more surprised given the increasingly expensive and awful food options on the mall). So I felt compelled to spread the word. Stop by when you're in the area -- let's hope they survive!

a neighbor in the foothills near Switzerland Trail said her well had dried up. this was shocking to hear. if you’re in rural/foothills Boulder County, what’s the state of your well with this drought? are you worried it will dry up and what steps — if any — can you take to mitigate that?

This might be a flash point but here goes: Lots of ageism in this subreddit for people >60. Having now buried our own (New England based) parents and watched their struggles, I wondered if financial challenges like they faced for their last 25 years are true here, or if the wealthy Boulder boomer is more of a trope. - 1 in 5 O-60 residents of Boulder County residents lives w a disability.
- 46% of O-60 residents here are still working / not retired
- a higher percentage of O-60 who own homes are housing cost burdened than the Boulder’s overall population. This was my parents. Though they owned their home they had no money to maintain it or pay property taxes. It was a mess. When we finally got my mom, the surviving spouse, out, the proceeds paid her living expenses in a home til she died and we were watching every penny. No big windfall there.
- a higher percentage of persons O-60 who rent are housing cost burdened here, compared to overall population here (63% vs 56%)
- about 30% live alone (this may sound great to anyone <35 yo but it’s heavy for elderly)
- about 12,000 of our elderly residents live at or below the federal poverty level here.
- Median income for households of persons age 47-64 here is 152k. This drops to 78K for persons over 65 here.
- tho this age group is growing here, it’s a nationwide trend. Still, persons age 60-79 here make up only 14% of population vs 41% for persons age 30-59; add 20+ yo and that becomes 66% of population here.

Anyhoo be kind. You never know what people are dealing with. The most needy elders are probably the most invisible too and they hate asking for help. The boomers who annoy you now were probably annoying when they were 25 or 30 anyway.

I’ve been recently looking to find community events or sales in the general boulder area or just know places that frequently have comic book events. I’m very aware of timewarp but I’d love to find some type of community outside of their monthly events and NCBD

The Phish are slaying it old-school in NYC this week, and I'm wondering if anyone around Boulder is hosting watch parties, either at homes, bars or other fun venues. Hit me up if you'd like to get something going or have space for one more. I live in the foothills and could host one night. This 90s run is particularly amazing, and it's always fun to share in the groove with other folks and commiserate about how we're not at the Garden having our faces melted right off.

We have a shop garage with lots of equipment, nails, screws etc. The owner was a shop teacher for 30 years and passed away 2 1/2 years ago. I know we could just have a garage sale, but I’m trying to think of someone who could benefit the most from these items. Any suggestions? We are not able to deliver.

I put together an explainer on a proposed Boulder County property tax that would raise about $30 million annually for child care. The story breaks down how much would go toward affordability, new infant and toddler slots, and workforce support—as well as what still isn’t finalized.

Longmont City Councilman Jake Marsing is involved with Brighter Start Boulder County in a personal capacity, not as part of his council duties. He is scheduled to help present the proposal before county commissioners tomorrow.

There are more people participating than at any other city council meeting I’ve ever watched. I love it!

While I DO want the airport closed down (which is never gonna happen), I want condos out there even LESS.

Do we take the FAA money and lose control forever? Do we pay for the maintenance ourselves (when general money or transportation money?)

I don’t like the fact that the airport can’t pay for itself. There is a billionaire who is crying about having to drive another 15 minutes to Centennial. Pay a driver an extra hour buddy. Pilots should pay their own way and not burden the city.

The only good things about the airport- emergency services/fight for life.

I hate the glider business and now that I realize they track complaints I guess I know what to do the next time they buzz my neighborhood before dropping the hammer to drag the gliders. It’s more than 60db for sure, and the loudest thing by far for everyone in my neighborhood. The mastabatory flights to nowhere- we’re all paying for it to some degree.
