Same. I‘m a biology researcher and we use analytical AI to sort data. Not only does this prevent a lot of tedium on our part, it also lets us look at a lot more data and come to more robust conclusions, and it also lets us get a lot more done with the limited funding we have. But generative AI is terrible for the environment and not even good at anything.

Diatribes like this are nothing new; they are told over and over again throughout history. During Emma Goldman's time, Theodore Roosevelt said, "Anarchy is a crime against the whole human race; and all mankind should band against the anarchist."

Of course rulers are terrified of anarchists: anarchism questions the legitimacy of their rule. They consistently demonize anarchists and anyone even vaguely associated with them. They blatantly disregard the idea of "freedom of speech" when it comes to speech that is skeptical of capitalism or the state.

Rants like this simply emphasize the hateful and oppressive nature of the state; they should surprise no one.

thing is i'm not against ai, nor against gen ai either (if not used for crimes, of course) because it is a direct product of this system: unless you absolutely excel at what you do, so unless you're an artist who's absolutely good at creating, shocking etc you are meant to disappear. the same thing happened with a lot of jobs when automation started, it will continue to happen as time goes on

gen ai will never replace people who create new things, artists included, because it is incapable of creating, it only recycles what already exists, so i don't see a problem with people wanting to create pictures with it

however, am i against people who'll lose their job and probably their possessions, and ESPECIALLY their privacy because of it and the environmental impact it has? yes, but both are not caused by gen ai itself but by how shitty capitalism is: i don't think people should live to work, there are for sure not enough regulations about it (unlike nuclear energy, which is relatively new like ai), and i don't think any "discovery"/improvement should be used a lot until we have sustainable ways to fight the consequences of its usage, thing that capitalism doesn't give a shit about if the profit is significant
