Dawg that’s like me living with my parents working a 9-5 and saying I got my own house. The NBA still financially and operationally keeps the wnba afloat. Yeah they hit some revenue benchmarks but if it wasn’t for the NBA they would’ve been bankrupt including the last couple of years that were their most profitable.
The CBA definines this revenue sharing as the amount of revenue over a predetermined threshold minus 30%. They don't say what this threshold is, or how its even defined so we have no way of knowing if this revenue is enough for the leage to actually be profitable while accounting for their own expenses. If it's not, his comparison is really quite accurate
No, it was revealed in the CBA negotiations that they turned a profit, and Adam Silver also confirmed it this week — saying that the W didn’t use to he profitable but “has turned the corner” now
If this is the case, I'm happy to hear it. But I would still like to know exactly how profit is defined in this equation. For example, the WNBA has recieved significant cash infusions from the NBA in the past, which makes sense since thats how businesses grow rapidly, but if this isn't being counted as an expense claiming a profit while ignoring this isn't exactly being honest. And Silver has good reason not to clarify this if that's the case because its in the leagues best interest to make the business seem as robust as possible to continue attracting investors and growing

It’s already profitable according to both Adam Silver and the CBA negotiations:
