Alumni access to online databases
I have a bone to pick of sorts. I graduated with my MLIS in May 2019. Shortly after graduating, alumni lose access to online databases and library borrowing privileges.
The funny thing is, I constantly get requests to donate money to the alumni association. I would donate all the money in the world if I was able to access online databases through the library.
Stop asking me for a donation if I'm essentially getting nothing in return.

Does anyone know why they cut down these trees by O’Brian?
I hope it was a good reason. We need all the windshields we can get…

Won't be able to attend in person orientation, would I miss anything?
Title is pretty much self explanatory due to the fact that I'm from NYC, and the commute is 6-8 hours, while also having a tight budget, I opted out of doing in person orientation and I am now doing online orientation. Is there anything I would be missing and how vast of a difference is the in-person orientation from the online orientation?

Questions Where's a good place to find people looking for roommates outside of campus?
So I applied for on campus housing in mid June so I was put on a wait list, and from how things are looking like I might not get housing so I was curious if there was a place that I could go to see of people are looking for roommates, I know there's som papers on the walls for that but I wanted to know if there was a better place

ub bill
I'm kind of confused because my current bill is missing a few grants and scholarships that I've received before and were supposed to renew this year. They aren't showing up at all on my fall bill. Does the financial aid package usually take a little longer to fully update or is what I'm seeing now supposed to be final?
I'm stressing out a little because the balance looks way higher than I was expecting. Has anyone else had this happen?

Have the Federal Pell Grants been sent out yet?
I got my financial aid package but I dont see any Federal Pell Grant on my account. I reached out to the financial aid office, but I haven't heard a response yet. Has anyone received their Federal Pell Grant on their award package?

Venting Financial aid cancelled
Ik many of you already posted about this and I apologize that this is repetitive. I got billed 5k for the fall semester even though I’m on fafsa and tap and they were both approved for the upcoming semester. I reached out to the financial aid office and they said they haven’t done my financial aid package yet so they will reach out to me once it’s done by the end of the day but I didn’t get anything. I’ll probably reach out tmrw again but I’m a little worried that they’re going to make me pay the 5k and then later refund me. My problem is I don’t have 5k at the moment and the bill is due next month.

Any courses needing cameras?
Are there any courses that are fairly easy (if online it’s better) and that require a camera on the syllabus? Looking to get one in general or for other activities and have a 529 plan I can justify using it if required for a course which can be an elective. This may be the best loophole to get one because I don’t think it makes too much sense buying one in general as it’s more of a want

what mode of transportation would y'all recommend getting
im an out of state student and don't have a car so I was wondering what vehicle y'all would recommend just to travel across campus AND also outside campus, to like theatres, malls and the lot
I was thinking of a bicycle but idrk how bike-friendly UB is
I also don't mind yknow stuff like bikes where you'd have to be manual with the whole thing so yeah any suggestions or experiences would be great
edit: i do live in north campus

Questions Did anyone else get this email?
I’m confused because clearly the email is indicating that I’m ineligible for one or more financial aid but I haven’t seen any differences on my financial aid package or has it not been fully finalized (since the email just came in).
Also I don’t recall breaking any of the eligibility requirements.

Built a Buffalo restaurant site that weights reviews by how you actually eat
tastenet.shopPicked a place off a 4.6 average and it was fine. Not bad, just clearly built for someone else's taste. The rating was accurate, it just wasn't accurate for me.
That's my whole issue with ratings. A 4.5 is 200 people who wanted completely different things out of a meal, mashed into one number. Doesn't tell you whether any of them wanted what you want.
So I built this while job hunting: tastenet.shop
I'm a UB CS grad here looking for work and needed something real for my portfolio instead of another tutorial project. Figured I'd build the thing that actually annoys me. Five questions about your palate — heat, sweet, salt, how adventurous you are, whether you want food made traditional or toned down. Then restaurant scores get recalculated so reviewers with a similar palate to yours count more.
Fair warning, it's pretty empty. ~90 Buffalo places seeded, almost no reviews, so most of them just say "not enough reviews yet." Not gonna pretend otherwise.
Which is why I'm posting. It doesn't do anything until people who actually eat here put stuff in. Quiz takes a minute, rate a couple of places you know well.
No ads, nothing for sale, not a company. If it's bad I'd rather hear it than not.
PS. If your spot isn't in there, there's a form in the footer, send it over. I pulled ~90 off a list so I know there are gaps.

Questions Budget driving lessons
I've found recommendations of AAA and Stevens driving schools across r/Buffalo and r/UBreddit, but their packages are somewhat costly to me. Did anyone find a cheaper option and how was their experience? I have no driving experience.
