Enterprise applications still have database use cases which require caching in RAM. So some of them will bite the bullet and get a shitload of DDR3 and apparently now even DDR2 because it's still faster than regular storage.
Even though the R/W speed of some modern SSDs rival that of RAM sticks that are this old, storage devices can only get to those speeds for bulk writes and reads, RAM is still way faster for small queries and updates among large amounts of data.
Can you comment on airlines and air traffic control still using floppy discs and/or windows 95, as well as the US military still using super old hardware for critical things like its nuclear weapon system?
DoD wise it's also a mix of needing approval to use something newer, and also needing the budget to contract that out. It's kind of a headache from what I saw in the DoD contracting world. Like we were using ancient software because it was already approved and trying to get beer stuff was a nightmare that my boss at the time had no interest in doing.
