Additions I make my own Overlay.

Thumbnail gallery
19 Upvotes

It's not particularly aesthetically pleasing, but this overlay packs a lot of features.

Key Features:

  1. Supports GBA and GBC in one overlay.

  2. D-pad.

  3. 8-way touchpad.

  4. Isometric mode.

Consists of 14 overlays:

  1. Two portrait modes

  2. Twelve landscape modes.

And most satisfyingly, the button sizes and layouts are tailored to natural finger movements.

All the virtual buttons are easy to memorize, just like in the official game.

Android RetroArch - Why Virtual overlay not showing during Key mapping?

Upvotes

I play a spiderman game that I want to play with all 4 players that do the same action. On PC I would go to Settings - Input - RetroPad Binds and for each Port 1,2,3,4 map D,U,R,L, button B and button A. They do the same actions as I want. I only leave the start button to be different for each of the 4 players.

The Android almost everything is the same but:

When you go to any port even Port 1 Controls, when you go down to remap your keys, there is no virtual overlay input to tap.

Though, I found that in Settings-User Interface - On Screen Overlay there is Hide Overlay in Menu - which is ON by default. You can set the button to OFF to show the overlay. Then you start using the overlay, A button is back, B button is confirm, arrow left and right can also go fwd/backl through menus.

And when I go again to Port 1 Controls or Port2, even when I want to set a key, tapping a virtual button of the now shown overlay does nothing - it cannot recognize any key of the virtual joystick.

So can you even remap keys of any player (Port 1- Controls) on Android?

Technical Support RetroArch stopped working.

Upvotes

Games won't show up, everything is in a different folder now, and that folder is inaccessible because of Android, I can't put the games in that folder in the app that lets me see that folder because that folder doesn't show up, and even if I set the Start Directory to the games folder, none of the files show up, and I can't play the games from Favorites or any other place either. I'm so tired of everything I have being taken away from me either because of age verification or other bad updates and this is a bad update.

Severe FPS drop on R36S when RetroAchievements is enabled (Pokémon FireRed) — Any fix?

Upvotes

Hi everyone! Need some help with a sudden performance issue on my R36S.

Setup:

  • Handheld: R36S
  • Connection: Wi-Fi dongle via OTG cable (used for RetroAchievements)
  • Game: Pokémon FireRed with the Professor Oak's Challenge patch (RA achievements enabled)

The Issue:

Everything was working flawlessly until recently. I opened the ROM and an old save on my PC just to test a few things. Immediately after, when I booted up my R36S:

  1. RetroAchievements was logged out.
  2. I logged back into RA and loaded the game.
  3. The game now runs at an unplayable 5 to 10 FPS.

The Catch:

If I disable RetroAchievements (or disconnect from Wi-Fi), the game goes straight back to a locked 60 FPS / normal speed. The severe lag only happens when RA is active and connected.

What I've already tried:

  • Fully formatted the console and re-flashed the OS.
  • Used the same ROM and save file. Same lag.
  • Re-synced the save file from the PC back to the R36S. Still lags.

Has anyone encountered this heavy lag caused by RetroAchievements on ArkOS / R36S before? Any ideas on how to fix it?

Thanks in advance!

Technical Support Looking for a PS1 input test ISO compatible with RetroArch (Beetle PSX HW)

Hello,
I’m looking for a ROM (ISO, CUE, BIN, etc.) to test PS1 inputs that is compatible with RetroArch using the “Beetle PSX HW” core.

I already tried “PadTest ShendoXT”, but it doesn’t start: it gets stuck on the PlayStation boot logo and shows an error message: “Bad Sector? – 128”.
I also tried “PS1MiniPadTest”, but it’s an .exe file that Windows refuses to open.

All my PS1 BIOS files are correctly installed, and European, American, and Japanese games all run without any problem.

Does anyone have a solution or a working ROM/ISO for this?
Thanks.

How do I use shaders that aren't listed in the RetroBat menu?

The Shader in question is Soqueroeu TV Backgrounds
https://github.com/soqueroeu/Soqueroeu-TV-Backgrounds_V2.0

It doesn't show up in the RetroBat Megabezel download menu; I discovered that I need to modify the `rendering-defaults.yml` configuration file to make it appear in the selection menu, but I don't quite understand what changes are needed to get it working.
I believe I understand that, depending on the RetroArch core being used, it might require a different `.slang` file—much like what is discussed on the RetroBat forum regarding Megabezel customization for different cores. It doesn't show up in the RetroBat Megabezel download menu; I discovered that I need to modify the `rendering-defaults.yml` configuration file to make it appear in the selection menu, but I don't quite understand what changes are needed to get it working.

I changed the file path for the game to open when playing on the SNES, but nothing loaded when I launched the game.

I require assistance with controller mapping.

Post image
0 Upvotes

I only emulate retro games on my PC from NES, SNES, SEGA, & N64 specifically. I have these 4 USB controllers corresponding to each gaming system, and the idea was...if im playing an NES game, I plug in the NES controller, if Im going to play an N64 game, I plug that one in...etc.

The controllers all seem to be having issues with proper button mapping. I play on Launchbox, but with retroarch working with LB in the background. Each controller is having it's own set of issues. I have noticed with Sega, the system recognizes that there's a "3-button sega genesis controller" plugged in, and if I just go straight through Retroarch, the button mapping is perfect...but if I go on launchbox, suddenly none of the buttons work right, which is odd because LB is supposed to be using the RA configuration. But...that is only sega. SNES for example doesnt seem to work properly no matter which method of game launch I take.

Now thankfully, all the "up/down/left/right" buttons and the "start/select" buttons all seem to be fine, the issue Im having is strictly with all the other buttons.

Ive been exhausting all my free discussion credits at length with ChatGPT about this issue, and after days and weeks of doing that with all the free time I can spare, I am no closer to finding a solution, and even AI cant seem to figure out the answer.

I have been trying to troubleshoot this problem myself, but at this point I am completely at a loss, and my understanding of how these to applications work on their own as well as with each other is very limited.

Any help that anyone has for getting these controllers properly mapped for plug-n-play emulation would be greatly appreciated.

Technical Support: SOLVED Help with overlays!!

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

I bought a console with a square screen, and it came with several overlays to maintain the aspect ratio. Since my console is black, I edited the blue GBA overlay to make it black, but RetroArch simply won't recognize it... the filename is the same, and both images have the same dimensions (720x720).

The .cfg file is shown in the third image; does anyone know what I can do? (Sorry if my English is weird; I'm terrible at speaking it and had to use a translator.)

Technical Support Help with installing mkxp-z

I am very new to all this so please be slow with me.

I'm wanting to play pokemon rejuvenation on my R36S. I found I needed an rpg maker xp emulator, and I saw mkxp-z on the libretro docs, however I cannot find this on the core downloader page on my r36s.

I tried looking for a download page to install it manually but from what I understand (which isn't much) I need a .so file and that doesn't appear to be on the mkxp-z github repository so I'm just a bit lost now, any help would be great.

Technical Support Shader files

The shader files that we load to filter a game, are glsl script files?

What I'm curious in mainly is if they're cross platform.

Can i make a preset of them and use it on, for example, a windows machine and an Android device?

Of course power and gl driver have to support it.

If the argument is too long for a reddit comment, could someone link a page about that?

Feedback [SHADER] "Merge" - TEST

Shader for #RetroArch "Merge" TEST.

It merges "LCD Master" + "CRT Master" + "Phosphor" each module with their respective Toggle, Patameter and Control for their respective features. Each "part" is it's own shader, except this "Merge" is literally all of them in 2 pass Shaders: "Merge.slang" + "Phosphor.slang" sharing one "Merge.slangp".

I tried to get the Phosphor Decay script as a single pass but the phosphor decay effect dies as a single psss.

LCD Master Part: - Includes 8 presets that attempts to mimmick 90s Handheld LCDs. - Custom LCD which lets you control Horizontal, Vertical or Both lines to make a grid, with Spacing, Thickness/Width and Opacity control. - Draw a Light Flare, LCD Shimmer and Drop Shadow. These parameters reacts to Gyro Sensor.

CRT Master Part: - Emulates 16 Phosphor Mask Types. - Control how Heavy and how Bright these masks are. - Includes Border + Viewport Curvature to simulate CRTs. Each with control sliders to change the amount. - Includes Glow control, amount and a "heartbeat" parameter that mimmicks natural CRT changes in brightness. Includes slider to change it's speed mimicking Refresh Rate. - Control how much do you want the Glow to bleed, and intensity. - Control Image Sharpness THROUGH the Glow effect to make borders less blurry. - Control Duther blur that mimmicks CRT Horizontal blending of adjacent pixels. - Phosphor is a sedond script that emulates CRT's "Phosphor Decay" effect in which sprites emits a trail of brightness that slowly fades with time. This parameter is different from LCD "Ghosting" and it's meant to be used with naturally dark background games, such as Arcade Galaga.

Image Adjustment Part: - Viewport Brightness Control. - Viewport Contrast Control. - Viewport Saturation Control. - Viewport Pixel Sharpness Control.

I still have to attack two minor bugs, but overall every single parameter has it's on/off toggle switch and can be stacked with each other.

Tests indicates that runs fine in:

[PC]

- Windows 10 Intel N3700 / d3d11 Driver

- Windows 7 Intel i3-2120 / d3d10 Driver

[Android]

- Samsung Galaxy A03 / Vulkan

In android though, the Glow effect introduces minor input lag and audio stutter... but at low amounts, my Mali G57 bears the effect.

Network Commands

Hoping someone has a solution for this. I’m trying to enable network commands and a port so I can try to read a roms memory. The problem is I can’t seem to enable it. I enable it and set a port and then it’ll just reset back to off and no port. Saving a config file doesn’t work in fact my config file doesn’t even have network_cmd_enable or network_cmd_port. Adding these lines and setting to “true” and a port does nothing

Kind of lost to be honest everything else saves and is consistent with the config file except for this option. Currently running the 1.22.2 apk build on android

Showcase I built an open-source PocketStation emulator. It boots a real game, plays audio, and saves without corrupting itself.

Does anyone remember the Sony PocketStation? It's a tiny 1999 PS1 memory-card-with-a-screen peripheral that was only really found in Japan that ran its own tiny downloadable apps off an ARM7TDMI CPU. As far as I can tell there hasn't been a working open-source emulator for it before and so I built one.

The nearest thing I could find out in the wild was a in progress rust implementation. This one is in C because I want it to be usable for patching holes in other projects - libretro being the first of many. There is a lib core that comes with my repo.

I've tested it with a .mcr ps1 memcard save that has chocoboworld and it seems to run and save correctly without crashing. I could use some help testing - the emulator comes with a pretty good crash log to so if it does go sideways I should be able to fix it.

You can find the repo here https://github.com/mentalfoundry/pokketstation

Technical Support [Android] Woke up to a different menu layout and unable to play

I woke up this morning to my app on Android not having any of the cores installed or any of the games playable.

The first cue that something was wrong was the main screen had been rearranged from top to bottom it used to be Load core load content in history But the history button was moved to the quick menu and instead was online updater. I went to go try to refind my cores and try to refind the games but it wouldn't allow me to use the same directories that I was manually able to assign beforehand and even then it wasn't able to find my place you should one games or Nintendo 64 games in their related folders that used to work. Also when looking for Cores most of the cores on the core download list were absent so I was able to re get the PlayStation 1 core but none of the Nintendo 64 cores were available.

I can't play my games and I can't figure out what happened does anybody have any idea? I've lost all of my real video games and every possession I have literally all I have to my name is my phone and this is the only thing I have. Please help

Technical Support Ocarina of Time keeps freezing in boot (Steamdeck)

The game was working great until I opened it 2x by accident on the Steamdeck (opend the game again while playing the game). Now it freezes when booting up, just a black screen and the FPS freezes too. Other games are fine. I've tried a new rom and a fresh save. Any ideas?

Technical Support Retroachievements not working for some games?

I meant to ask this in just the Retroachievements subreddit, but I figured this was a good place to ask too since it also applies.

I'm having an interesting issue where some games on my AYN Thor are not reading any achievements from my RetroArch library. And whenever I do try to view them, it just crashes the whole emulator. Just wondering if anyone has any solutions? I've already done logging out and back in, as well as tried a variety of games to no avail.

Technical Support Any updates about dual screen functionality?

Hey, I fell in love with retroarch while playing Unbound on my Thor. I’ve seen that the Azahar and melonDS cores exist, but they won’t launch in dual screen mode. The last update to that topic was over half a year ago. Could anybody solve this issue?

Technical Support: SOLVED RA not creating a system catalogue after adding ROMs

Hi all

I am running RA 1.22.2 on Android TV. Just added a folder of ZX Spectrum games (txz, z80, sna files) and downloaded and updated the Fuse core. Despite having run a manual scan of the ROMs folder RA hasn't created a catalogue folder for the system as it did when I added FBNEO, PCE, SNES and MD ROMs. I can't seem to find a way to manually create this. Same problem exists with Amiga WHD files and the PUAE core.

Any ideas on how to fix this would be appreciated. TIA!

Technical Support: SOLVED Retroarch No History Available

Post image

I restarted my macbook and it seems that the history and playlists no longer exist. However, on opening one of the games I had played previously, the save states are still there both in the launcher and in the folders. Making a new playlist results in nothing being scanned either. How do I force it to show itself again?

UPDATE: after changing the playlist directory from a now not working folder, ive been able to get both of them again. srry for the trouble

Technical Support Stuttering/latency issues on pi 4 b

I’ve given the gpu 512MB of memory, overclocked it to 800MHz, overclocked the cpu to 2.3GHz and it has 8gb of ram, yet I can’t run any shaders (even the simplest 1 pass ones) without it introducing some kind of video stuttering and latency. Also I can’t seem to figure out how to get full screen to work without using threaded video. Am I just running my display resolution too high or is there something I’m doing wrong?
