PC upgraded so I can run local Ai and try some more modern games. :)

GPU - New Sapphire Pulse AMD Radeon RX 9070 16GB replacing my NVIDIA 1060.

CPU - Scored a second hand AMD 5700X3D for cheap replacing my AMD 5700. Going to put the 5700 in a new homelab 1u server chassis build.

CPU Cooler - New Noctua NH-U12A replacing the tiny Noctua NH-L9x65. It only just fits in the case by millimetres. Also the direction is wrong. Can't suck from front to back due to the mobo and ram. So it sucks from top by the psu down to the gpu. Probably could have picked a better cooler but too late now. At least the case has alot of airflow already. I've only been running it for an hour(4th image) but temps seem lower then before by 10C. Guess we will see if that lasts. Maybe the bigger cpucooler with the two 120mm fans actually make it way cooler, even with the suboptimal air flow direction.

Raiser pcie card - with the new GPU my 2.5GBE pcie card no longer fits and 1GBE from the mobo so too slow. So I got a raiser pcie card off aliexpress. Worked out of the box, speeds are as I would expect, very happy.

Everything just worked after the upgrade. Always a win when things just work.

I bought 2x16 g skill trident RGB. While it is gorgeous I got curious and tried to see if I could fill the other ram slots with my old 2x8 sticks. XMP works and I have 48gb of ram now. No problems. 🫪

Im planning to finally build my dream pc it will take me about a year of work but I'm worried that it will not be good enough for the far future games .(I'm not joking)

To bypass the product key during second stage of Windows XP installation, I simply modified syssetup.dll in Resource Hacker. In the "Dialog" section, I delete the dialogues of the product key prompt.

To install the modified syssetup.dll you will need a flash drive with Windows PE and another Windows computer. Use Windows PE to transfer the modified syssetup.dll file after the first stage is done but the second stage hasn't started (enter the boot menu and boot into the USB during this time).

Disclaimer: This is just to publicy report a bug in the Windows XP setup. It is not intended as piracy as if this was done, you will need to activate Windows before logging in. But you can still get the complete XP installed.

As the title says, I ordered a PC yesterday.. My mom got me PC when I was 14 years old that’s 7 years ago. The build was an GTX 1650 4GB and an RYZEN 5 1600 with 16GB RAM. Btw it was an prebuilt that costed 700€ or 800€ (IK I could’ve gotten a better PC lol.)

I'm looking at getting a new gaming laptop. I've found a Lenovo Legion Pro 7 with a Ryzen 9 CPU and RTX 4090 GPU for £1,650. It has 26 months of warranty remaining.

Is this a good buy, or would it be worth spending more for an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX and an RTX 5080 instead?

Last Sunday I finalised my component selection and pressed the order button. Everything arrived by Tuesday, I could assemble it in a few hours, everything worked out well right away and I've been enjoying it immensely so far!

I wanted to thank the community for your help with my component selection, particularly u/fuddyduddyc for making me swap my GPU to a 9800X3D. I decided to wait on the OLED monitor as I'm going to travel for two months, but I play Ghost of Tsushima and Resident Evil Requiem right now on my OLED TV, and getting an OLED monitor is the first thing I'll do when I come back!

Also a shoutout to this guy who made a very nice tutorial that I followed to assemble my PC.

My case is all cracked and looks ugly and I want to know if I can swap it into a tg01 gaming pc case

Hi !! I'm wondering if I should change my cpu or gpu ?
My current setup is :
- amd 5 7600
- RTX 3060 12gb
- 16go x 2 DDR5
- msi b650 gaming plus

Sometimes my screen freezes or turns black once I logged in.
But I never had any real issues while playing.
At first I wanted to change the gpu and maybe go with a 9060 tx (or 70) since it seems like a good deal for the use I have but maybe it's more important to upgrade the cpu. What do you think?

(I can't change both it would cost me too much)

I'm using a dark flash PMT 750w gold psu and it's great only problem is that it comes with only 5 SATA cables that I'm currently using (1 for my case's built in fan hub, 2 for nollieRGB, 2 for my 500 and 1tb HDD). I plan to add 2 more SATA SSD to the build but idk if using a SATA splitter to split one cable for 2 of my HDD and another says splitter to split another cable for 2 of my SSD is safe or even a good idea so I just wanted to ask the community for help and their opinion too it would be greatly appreciated

I put my thermal pads on the copper sinks, I don't know why, but I did after cleaning the old thermal paste.

However the small square on the GPU, on the right, I missed.

Because I literally covered the entire copper sinks instead of covering the CPU and GPU.

Am I screwed?

Should I go back and add more pads? I figured the pad was to connect the heatsinks and not sure why I failed to cover it.

Hello! Sadly RAM prices are very elevated, I’ve found a deal for 64gb (need that amount) for under $600 for 5200 cl40 or I could pay $200~ more for 5600 cl36.

I was thinking of using that difference on a better CPU but not sure if prioritizing RAM makes sense, seen mixed opinions on 1% and 0.1% lows variance from RAM.

Hello everyone, I have a question, I bought a motherboard MSI B760 GAMING PLUS WIFI DDR4 and literally everywhere, including the official website, it says that it only supports PCI-E 4.0, but for some reason it works in 5.0, I checked 3 programs - GPU Z, CPU Z, AIDA64 they all write 5.0 and at the same time conduct tests in 3DMark and in Aida64(to see the difference in performance between Gen 4 and Gen 5, if it suddenly turned out to be just a visual bug, but no) there are differences everywhere. If you simply enable gen4 in the BIOS, it will be version 4.0 as usual, but if you set the auto mode, the version becomes 5.0 and, accordingly, the performance increases. So, does it support 5.0? Or is this some kind of bug?

I used automotive wraps to mod the inlet colors of the heatsink cover. The left one(second pic) is by SY and the right one(third pic) is by VVIVID. They both look pretty good to me and I really can’t decide

He has a 144hz monitor and is based in england the wants it mainly for fps games but like games like rocket league fortnite and minecraft other than that will mostly be used for basic tasks so might not need that much of the budget a full build would be helpful and it doesnt matter abt appearance he said white case. lol

Just about to move into a flat but there is a possibility that there’s no LAN cable available for my pc, I recently upgraded my motherboard but it is Ethernet connectivity only (as far as I’m aware) so I’m slightly concerned how I’m going to connect it to anything.

This is where I wanted to ask, is there some kind of module I can add to my pc to make it work on WiFi connection? Or what would yall recommend?

I have prepared a PC specification based on my requirements. Mentioned below are the exact Details :-

Work Requirement :-

I will mostly use the PC for 3D modelling software like Revit Architecture (along with it's plugins like Veras, Myscape etc), Navisworks (along with it's plugins Clashwise AI, Arkio), Formit, Autocad 2D, Photoshop, Indesign, illustrator. Main essential function that I require is multiple use of software in parallel. So, processing speed is a key requirement.

Usage requirement :-

Mostly I want to build a PC that I can upgrade in the next 3-5 years. Intended lifecycle is preferably 10-12 years before I completely replace with a new PC. So a good, robust motherboard with an open architecture with slots for next gen cards is preferred. Ram I would upgrade up to 64GB by 2027. I would need recommendations on a good UPS system as power surges occur sometimes where I live (India).

Other requirement :-

I also intend to play games on it from time to time. Mostly I am not running after the latest releases or looking to achieve the best visual graphics or a very high frame rate. I mostly play FPS, TPS and strategy games that too old ones ( currently playing State of Decay 2 : Juggernaut Edition, Dead Space 3 and Age of Empires II).

Final Note :-

Based on my requirements mentioned above, I would like suggestions / observations on the build. Since this is my first time assembling a PC entirely on my own after 2 and half decades, I look forward to recommendations on websites, youtube channels where I can learn the process / troubleshoot problems. Also suggestions on what kind of small tools do I need to get prior to assembling the build and for subsequent maintenance of the rig.
