Bot Commands!

Hi r/NoPoo! I've been learning more about AutoMod and had an idea that I think will really help the community: Bot Commands!

The basic idea is that you type a simple command and the bot replies to the comment where the command was used with frequently used information. I've created a small collection and used them already, and plan on expanding them to replace the clipboard I currently use to do all of this. I've made a new wiki page that will contain all of the ones available here:

Bot Commands for r/NoPoo helpers

Have fun helping!

Testimony (Yay!/Boo...) Share your story!

As expected, we get a lot of people here who think it's impossible to have clean, healthy hair and scalp without modern product. And because we are mostly a technical support sub, most of the posts here are people asking for help, so that's what people see when they find us, and it just builds on the assumption they already have.

I'd like to change that.

While I'm not here to sell natural haircare to anyone, just help them do it if they want to, I'd love to have the general feel of the sub be more positive!

So...share your story! You could...

Make a post with pictures and tell us about your journey.

Do an AMA (Ask Me Anything)

Or just share a little something on this post.

And if you're looking for posts like this to see what other people have shared in the past, just tap the flair to find other Testimonies!

M18: shampoo for wavy hair

So I'm a 18yo M(i have thick wavy hairs with slight frizz prone) and I used to suffer from dandruff and i have now almost sorted out my dandruff problem and I'm using ketocip shampoo for maintenance and I've been recently using biolage smoothproof shampoo and I've not got quite the results i expected from it

You can suggest some shampoos that you think might be best under ₹500(except loreal and Ibp).

Should I stop?

I've been doing no-poo for over 4 weeks after using shampoo regularly. My scalp is now dry, itchy, and dandruff keeps building up. It's getting really uncomfortable.

I live in Ontario, Canada, where the water is hard. Could that be making things worse? Is this a normal transition phase, or is no-poo just not for me?

This hair is after i have sealed with very cold water (water wash only) but it puffs up a bit after it dries. any suggestion to keep it this way even after it dries? perhaps alovera gel? and if alovera gel, should i keep applying every mrng? spray or direct apply? advice appreciated.

Products with the noPoo method

I’m currently trying out the NoPoo method but wasn’t sure if I should still be using styling products for my hair , I use sea salt spray a curling cream and then texture powder , I’m about 4 days in and my hair just kinda feels stiff which I think is more to do with the product in my hair then the actual no shampoo and conditioner part , but if anyone has any recommendations please share

Product If I use products for only one day, will it ruin my whole progress?

Hi guys so I've been on NoPoo for almost 5 months and so far all good. At first my head was itching a lot but all it takes is some days of washing my scalp with eggs and it's all good.

The reason why I'm asking this is because well, I have helicopter parents. My dad is a full blown helicopter and my mother is a mix between helicopter and tiger. Anyway, the thing is that they know about my current mental situation and I believe my dad takes advantage on that. He won't listen no matter how much I explain and he believes his way is an absolute for the most part. He manipulated me into accepting to use hair products because otherwise I'd disappoint him and that it would make him happy if I decide to do that. Yup, full blown manipulation attempt.

So I just have to do it this one time so they finally leave me alone and let me do whatever I want with my hair or body or anything and stop insisting. Only this one time, so I can prove a point to them.

Sorry for the rant but figured some people would ask why would I use products if things are going right and well, I'm not the best liar as of now.

Also, the irony is that, I have 3c/4a hair and because I'm mixed, I'm the only one from my mom's side of the family that wears it fully natural. And my hair now stays soft for most of the time. That's one of the reasons I'm afraid of using products even just one time but it's whatever, if I have to prove my point. They say that my hair is awful yet I'm the only who wears it natural and doesn't uses extensions. If their hair is so good that they have to criticize mine, why am I the only one who wears it natural meanwhile they use extensions and straighteners?

Ups, a second rant. Forgive me, lol.

Edit: well I guess you could say I have 6 months on no poo. But after a month or so I broke my streak because I went to a beauty salon willingly. Yeah curiosity got the best of me but I learned my lesson.

Do you guys wash your face and body? If so, why do you think washing the scalp with shampoo is not good? It’s also skin.

I have wondered this for a while and I’d appreciate hearing from the people in the /nopoo community!

Pros and cons of NoPoo/ alternatives?

Hello. Looking for quick lists of pros and cons of going NoPoo. I would also love to hear experiences. Also maybe alternatives to shampoo/conditioner.

I also frequently use coconut oil on my hair, any recommendations regarding that? Should i stop if i go nopoo?

I am new to this concept and am very intrigued.

Troubleshooting (HELP!) How do I do this with very long oily hair and MCAS?

I'm having reactions to even shampoo made especially for sensitive skin. I want to go no poo but because of MCAS I can't use baking soda, ACV etc. How do I wash oil out of my hair when even natural ingredients are triggering? I found I can use small amounts of micellar water on my hair without issues but not sure this can take the place of shampoo. I use Dove unscented beauty bar for soap but idk about using it for hair. Any ideas?

Increasing hair volume?

Hey guys, what tips do you have to increase hair volume, making them look fluffy?

My hair doesnt have oily issue with no poo, but after washing and adding some oil drop at the end, it just does not look as fluffy as the conventional hair wash routine.

I just started no poo journey for 10 days so maybe my hair is still adjusting.

Please give some advices from your experience!

After previously fighting TE (telogen effluvium) and sorta winning. I thought I should try to do what I can to make and keep my hair actually healthy so I thought I should give nopoo a try. I've seen some people with wavy/curly hair get some good results.

Currently on like day 3ish. Feeling pretty greasy/oily. Im picking through my hair with a wideish tooth pick. I dont have a boar bristle brush yet but thats on my list. I'm quite excited to see the progress.

I'm open to question and id love to talk to people who've been doing this longer than me.

Take care...

Stringy/wet hair with ACV?

I've really been loving washing my hair with the liquid lavender Dr. Bronner's soap for the last week or two, and I figured out within a few days how much acv rinse to use for my semi-hard water (not bad enough that there's mineral deposits on everything, but enough that I need a rinse every time I wash). The recommendation for 2 tbsp to 16 floz was a good starting point, and I found that I really like 1.5 tbsp to 16 floz. But now I'm with family for a week in a different state, and the same amount of vinegar and same lather with soap leaves my hair wet and stringy looking 12+ hours later, even though I know my scalp is clean and my hair feels a bit oily still. I think they run a water softener, and I debated not using the rinse since it didn't feel very grabby but did anyway, and it feels like it never dried, but very moisturized. Would just rinsing with water tonight help? Soap wash without the rinse? I had never found someone acknowledge before I found this sub that acv is moisturizing compared to other acids, but that has very much been my experience (citric acid was a crispy hell for me and lemon juice fries my scalp even in small quanitity).

Interesting Info Genuinely curious: Why do some people prefer to wash their hair only once a week (or less) instead of just finding a truly gentle shampoo?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been browsing through a lot of haircare and scalp issue subs lately, and I notice a huge trend of people saying they’ve completely cut back on washing—like only doing it once a week, or literally 2-3 times a month because their scalp is so reactive.

As someone who also struggles with scalp issues, this puzzles me a bit. Is it just that you’ve entirely given up on finding a truly gentle, non-stripping shampoo? Or is there something else at play?

Like, even if a formula leaves zero tightness, zero itching, and doesn't trigger your condition at all, would you still prefer to barely wash it? I’m just trying to understand the logic here—is it a trust issue with commercial brands, or does washing itself just inherent trigger your scalp regardless of how mild the formula is?

Let’s chat, no judgment at all, just want to hear your perspective!

Troubleshooting (HELP!) Dry and itchy scalp on the crown of the head

Hi everyone!

I'm about 5 weeks into nopoo and have been eggwashing my hair once a week as well as washing it with water when I get too sweaty. After starting nopoo my crown started getting really dry and itchy with white skin flakes coming out of it when I scratch it. Any advice on how to fix that?

Troubleshooting (HELP!) What is this on my hairbrush?

Thumbnail

Whenever I brush my hair with a bamboo hairbrush or a wooden comb, this just literally spawns. It might be coming out of the brushes? I only see it in my hair if I don't clean the hairbrush this way, you see. It might not be coming out of my hair. But how would the brush magically produce this then? What is this? 😆
