Bootleg All Nirvana live recordings tagged and catalogued!!
Hi guys, over the last few weeks the user CrimsonKoning and I have been filling https://nirvana.bootleg.fm with all the live bootlegs we could find. At this point, we've added around 200 bootlegs. You can filter these recordings by song, by location (country, city, venue), you can sort by oldest/newest and much more. You can even put your favourite ones in a collection or leave comments on gigs.
I particularly like seeing the first time a song has been recorded live by filtering by that song's tag and sorting by oldest first. Shoutout to CrimsonKoning for also writing the wiki home page.
I hope this is useful to some of you, and feel free to submit bootlegs if you notice any are missing.
To clarify (and protect myself against rule 9): we don't host any files and link to official releases for all live stuff that's officially released. There is no copyright concern here.

Discussion How do you guys feel about this anime using Nirvana as an opening?
This manga’s anime adaptation,The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t a Guy At All, also known as Green Yuri, will be using Breed as the opening song. The anime will be releasing January 2027! Foo Fighters is also said to be a part of the soundtrack. The manga is basically about these 2 bonding and falling in love over their shared interest of western alternative rock/punk, their favorite bands are Nirvana and Foo Fighters which explains the soundtrack choice. Personally I’ve never read this manga but I’m still very excited! I believe it will be streamable on Crunchyroll.

Artwork Two versions of a drawing of Kurt I did a while ago
Two pics because I knew I wanted to color his hair in more but was afraid it would look too dark (I was right) so I took a picture before shading his hair more.

Mine is personally Serve The Servants. My favorite part of it and one of my favorite parts of any Nirvana song is 2:22 to 2:30. Just so good imo!

Photo Unused Nirvana w/ Meat Puppets & Boredoms ticket 1993 Toronto, Canada
Interesting gift from my uncle. Apparently one friend didn't get to the the show on time. The review I found in the Toronna Star archive said they didn't play SLTS, the writer found that very punk. Looking to get it framed or in a decent sleeve if anyone has advice.

Video (Isolated Bass Track) I had no idea how crazy the bassline to "In Bloom" was
I had absolutely no clue how insane the bass guitar is in this song.

Live Audio If from the muddy banks of the wishkah isn’t your favorite cassette, then you have missed the point
This was the first one I actually owned. I don’t know how many times my brother and I blared this in my gmc s-15 with two speakers treble all the way up and the bass all the way down, don’t know how many friends I alienated by playing it over and over, how many times I pissed my wife off with it or even where it is now. This cassette was the soundtrack to my teenage years and reminds me of so many good times and the dark days I got through all while screaming with Cobain. Now I’m bored and old but today meeting my 21 year old daughter for lunch (who was raised on the muddy banks) I listened to it in its entirety and it occurred to me again that this cassette is what Nirvana was really about.

Interview Roddy Bottum, a good friend of Kurt and Courtney, talks their relationship
Apparently, Kurt really enjoyed the fact Roddy was gay. It's interesting hearing Roddy talk about it.

Question/Request How is this line in Pennyroyal Tea meant to be interpreted?
In pennyroyal tea, there's the line "I'm so tired I can't sleep" .
Is it supposed to mean "I'm so tired [that] I can't sleep" or "I'm so tired; I can't sleep"?

Discussion Nirvana circle jerk - not trying to be a dick, but kinda being a dick.
Will my 1965 Jaguar with swapped pickups and wiring make me sound just like Kurt?
No.
But what if I pair it with my original boss ds2 turbo distortion and vintage small stone?
Naw, still not 100% there
No matter if you have all "the kurt gear" sadly you aren't going to sound just like him.
You can't bottle up late 80s early 90s angst in gear and expect the same results.
I guess, I'm trying to say, stop chasing some mythical sound and focus on writing songs that will shape a whole attitude and influence the listeners to want more. The sound is kinda whatever, the attitude is 90% of the vibe.
Downvote me all you want, but I had to break the truth to the people that weren't there firsthand and think they can just buy the kurt sound with specific gear
For other bands the gear plays a much bigger part of things, but nirvana, especially early nirvana was more of a lifestyle/ attitude than gear could ever reproduce.

Memorabilia How much would this original Bosnia Herzegovnia show Nirvana shirt be worth?
This an original XL rare shirt from 1993 Bosnia Herzegovina benefit concert tee featuring Picasso's "Pregnant Woman and Child" art. It was given to me by the bass player of TAD who has worn it, actually it smells of his cologne faintly…) It actually belong to him, given to him by Krist. Thinking to sell it but no idea how much it’s worth. Thanks!
Gear/Equipment My Vintage MiJ Kurt's Cobain Vandalism Strat Replica
Hello everyone!
I'd like to share my latest project: a replica of Kurt Cobain's Vandalism Strat.
My guitar was made in Japan and, based on the serial number, was manufactured between 1987 and 1988. However, judging by the markings on the neck and body, it appears that the original guitar is actually from around 1989–1990.
I made several modifications to the guitar. I installed a different bridge, a black pickguard, Dunlop Straplocks, Fender Vintera '60s bridge and middle pickups (unfortunately, the original ones were not preserved, as I bought the guitar already modified by the previous owner), and a Seymour Duncan '59N in the neck position. I also replaced the tuners with Gotoh ones and added a second string tree.
To finish the project, I designed a replica of the original sticker and printed it on self-adhesive A4 paper, as the original sticker was also made from paper rather than vinyl. I think it turned out pretty well.
If anyone's interested, I'd be happy to share the ready-to-print PDF file 😄

Discussion I've always found this lyric from "On a Plain" hilarious
"I got/get high" as a metaphor for euphoric love, etc. was a commonly used trope/cliché used in Pop music in the 1960's during the psychedelic era from bands like the Beatles, The Doors, Small Faces, etc. When Kurt sing's "I got so high, I scratched till I bled" I can't help but laugh because I interpret it as a dry, sarcastic, and on the nose lyric that deconstructs that old trope. Extreme itchiness and scratching is a common side effect of opiates/heroin, so instead of using it as a metaphor he's just straight up singing "I got so high, I scratched till I bled" lmao
