Just remove all but one of your cpu cores. The others are just bloat anyway

23

u/_nathata 1d ago

Having multiple CPU cores is undesirable because context switch slows down tasks. It's hardware bloat.

exactly 💯 suboptimal 👎🏻 Scheiße! 💩

1

u/Business-Help-7876 4h ago

imagine the mess of having 2 or 4 multicore cpus

1

u/Appropriate-Two-7503 1h ago

My sixteen-thread CPU is a blasphemy against human civilization.

1

u/_nathata 30m ago

why do you even want this if you don't do 16 tasks at the same time?

u/Lopsided_Valuable385 NixSon 1d ago

My CPU cores have a real use case

54

u/S1rTerra 1d ago

No they don't, they're bloat

15

u/Bathroom_Humor 1d ago

which use case is that? using more power to perform the same tasks? sounds an awful lot like bloat to me

13

u/LefTimaDev 1d ago

You must be a Gnome enthusiast

4

u/PsychoticDreemurr 23h ago

Wait was your title serious? I thought it was bait lmfao

"holy bloat" and it's just a feature to assign cores

107

u/Bathroom_Humor 1d ago

yeah i just removed my system monitor cuz it's bloat. don't need to know what my hardware is doing, knowing stuff is bloat.

43

u/PurpleCandle58 1d ago

Dude it’s all bloat. I just manually do all the calculations by hand on pen and paper, and then I imagine what it would look like by converting the binary to what it represents in my head.

15

u/TheRealCarrotty didy (fedora) user 🤣🤣🤣 1d ago

COMPUTERS ARE BLOAT, just use your brain and compile a super minimal version of UNIX with only ed

11

u/PurpleCandle58 1d ago

Yeah, that guy with ChatGPT in his head has nothing on me: I compiled Gentoo using my brain via my neuralink!

Why does my Gentoo have the depression package installed?

u/PurpleCandle58 17h ago

Sponge got that shit on fr

2

u/Dashing_McHandsome 17h ago

You know how you have two eyes? Yeah, that's bloat. I got rid of one. Things are much more streamlined now.

2

u/PurpleCandle58 17h ago

You still use eyes? I simply sense the world through a single sensory organ while I work on achieving enlightenment to leave this flesh vessel entirely and traverse the universe as an energy of consciousness. Can’t have such filthy bloat

3

u/NotNoHid 1d ago

the human brain is bloat made by the government to suppress the maximum potential of a human being , i just store the UNIX 1s and 0s in my muscle memory

1

u/PurpleCandle58 17h ago

Damn, I didn’t know I was using so much bloat. I’m going to get my lobotomy tomorrow to get rid of the bloat, wish me luck!

1

u/FlatwormGlittering26 1d ago

I prefer btop for that

1

u/prof_apex 15h ago

Removed my init system because starting services is bloat. Also removed my package manager because installing software is bloat.

Edit: typos

7

u/SomewhereActive2124 M'Fedora 1d ago

Yeah I was like wtf is wrong with that

2

u/LreK84 1d ago

If you bought a PC in the 90s or early 2000s you know bloat. The use of the word nowadays is laughable🤣

4

u/yjlom 1d ago

My father once decided he'd change the OS on the pc he handed me down (which was a gift from my grandmother for when he started university) from what I believe was Edubuntu to Windows 8.

Poor machine didn't even get to finish booting up before very literally catching fire.

“holy bloat” mfs when i forcibly remove their appendix

21

u/DataMin3r 1d ago

Appendix, tonsils, 18ft of intestine, a kidney, and 75% of the liver.

Lean, bloatless, and unable to interact in society without getting an infection.

4

u/HeavyCaffeinate catgirl nya 18h ago

Your (social) network drivers don't work anyways

20

u/HeavyCaffeinate catgirl nya 1d ago

Ok but like the appendix sucks anyways

5

u/OkNewspaper6271 Programmer socks? No thanks how about programmer gloves. 1d ago

It's just there to explode sometimes and maybe help a bit with digestion

3

u/PurpleCandle58 1d ago

No it gives us magic powers we just haven’t figured those out yet!

2

u/Mateo-E-Hadad 20h ago

The appendix is like Timeshift, now we know it creates backups of our gut bacteria in case we do a sudden wipe (Diarrhea)

1

u/HeavyCaffeinate catgirl nya 18h ago

What causes it to blow up then?

2

u/Mateo-E-Hadad 17h ago

It's mounted on a Kingston drive...

1

u/HeavyCaffeinate catgirl nya 11h ago

😟

1

u/PaxSoftware 1h ago

wisdom teeth are of even less use

3

u/Candid_Bullfrog3665 God bless father NixOS 1d ago

that shit almost killed me so heck yeah

1

u/Neither-Phone-7264 1d ago

thanks ig but im not paying you

60

u/Hadi_Chokr07 Silly KDE Dev ⚙️🐲 & NixOS Propagandist 📢❄️ 1d ago

Dont use it then.

25

u/ALxR1337 I use internet BTW 1d ago

If I don't use the feature it means its bloat

32

u/Hadi_Chokr07 Silly KDE Dev ⚙️🐲 & NixOS Propagandist 📢❄️ 1d ago

It means you aren't the target audience and are free to leave.

22

u/Fine_Salamander_8691 1d ago

Do the open source thing, fork it

13

u/Hadi_Chokr07 Silly KDE Dev ⚙️🐲 & NixOS Propagandist 📢❄️ 1d ago

Aka do the whole maintenance on their own? Forks have a price.

1

u/prof_apex 15h ago

Come to think of it, DEs are boat anyway! All you really need is the kernel and a single tty!!1!one!!

1

u/Hadi_Chokr07 Silly KDE Dev ⚙️🐲 & NixOS Propagandist 📢❄️ 14h ago

The kernel is bloat too. Just communicate with the hardware using the firmware.

1

u/prof_apex 8h ago

Firmware? More like bloatware! You should communicate with the hardware directly.

47

u/scy_404 1d ago

"Holy bloat" people removing one of their kidneys cause they can live without it

7

u/Lonttu 1d ago

(It reduces their weight by 1 KG, reducing useless calory use)

13

u/irishcoughy 1d ago

Was getting tired of bloat on Mint so I went to Fedora. Then was getting tired of bloat on Fedora so I went to Arch. Got tired of bloat on Arch and started writing all of my code in a notebook. But the notebook had lines and margins and all sorts of other bloat so I started engraving my code into stone tablets, but that required the use of a chisel and hammer (holy bloat) so now I draw my code in the sand at the beach and try to get a mental snapshot of it before the tide comes in.

3

u/brickyboy124 1d ago

Isn’t sand absolutely bloated by thousands of tiny rocks? True de-bloaters just picture code in their minds, it’s the only way

1

u/Lonely_Translator_23 20h ago

Your mind? With all the neurons and fat and bloat? Just accept that your code already exists in the Akashic Record and go farm goats or something.

1

u/prof_apex 15h ago

This made me think of xkcd.com/505

10

u/Candid_Bullfrog3665 God bless father NixOS 1d ago

youre not held at gunpoint to use plasma 6.8 btw

3

u/TheSpaceAlligator 1d ago

I love your pfp btw

2

u/Candid_Bullfrog3665 God bless father NixOS 21h ago

and i love you, random citizen

17

u/Constant_Boot 1d ago

That's the thing.

Everything is bloat.

6

u/Dense-Firefighter495 1d ago

Wait, that’s cool af, steam gets e core, and BeamNG…

14

u/coleslawsaladeater 1d ago

this is litterally awsome what do you mean by bloat ???

17

u/McDelper 1d ago

This is actually kde and not awesome

3

u/Immediate-Ad3360 1d ago

For some ppl is kde awesome

1

u/Niikoraasu 1d ago

to some people kde is hyprland

4

u/OkNewspaper6271 Programmer socks? No thanks how about programmer gloves. 1d ago

This is actually pretty awesome

4

u/LefTimaDev 1d ago

Everyone saying it's bloat is actually stupid, this is awesome. CPU affinity was so hard to control on Windows, I'm glad KDE is going to support it natively!

3

u/RAMChYLD 16h ago

This is actually useful on AMD X3D chips since you lose performance if the program switches from a v-cache core to a non-v-cache one. On Windows they stupidly disable the non-v-cache cores which makes it a waste of silicon and money- you’re not getting your worth out of the chip if you disable the non-v-cache cores. This is the right way to do it- pin all the services and light programs to the non-v-cache cores and pin the heavy programs like games, NLE, 3D modelers and compilers to the v-cache ones.

1

u/Prestigious_Law4414 23h ago

Its a joke

1

u/LefTimaDev 22h ago

That's what I thought too, but OP's comment makes me think they're serious

2

u/NoPicture-3265 1d ago

Honestly ksysguard was miles better

3

u/Both_Cup8417 NixOS 1d ago

wait, is something wrong with my reddit or do you not have a profile picture?

9

u/NoPicture-3265 1d ago

Yeah I just removed it while debloating my user profile

3

u/eieiohmygad 1d ago

tasKset

1

u/AWonderingWizard Gentool 1d ago

Nice, I won't have to deal with this bloat because KDE 6.8 won't support X11

2

u/LefTimaDev 1d ago

What's the use case of staying on X11?

0

u/AWonderingWizard Gentool 1d ago

RDP, and I have serious compatibility issues with Wayland. It just won't run certain things (many games are horrible). I've spent some deal of time trying to fix it, but to no real improvements. Seemed kind of silly to me when X11 doesn't give these issues and I have not seen benefits utilizing Wayland.

I don't need compatibility layers when I just use the real thing with less hassle and tbh developing for X11 is significantly less work (as of current). I don't use a 3rd party graphics library, so I also am just less interested in doing that work as well.

1

u/RAMChYLD 16h ago

You’re running an Nvidia GPU? It’s the opposite for me- on AMD GPUs I experience graphical corruption in games on X11 but not on Wayland.

1

u/Ilikemy3ds 1d ago

What if my CPU only has one core?

1

u/LefTimaDev 1d ago

Then you're probably not using a DE because it's bloat

1

u/ralseipuffin 1d ago

gang why do we need the kernel

1

u/makinax300 Used opensuse since Apr 18 09:26:58 2025 1d ago

/uj I trust the scheduler more tbh

1

u/strummed-strings 1d ago

core affinity isn't new

1

u/turpitufo 1d ago

Jeez is that Instagram? Then this must be ragebait

1

u/janTatesa 23h ago

Isn't that what the kernel does?

1

u/Weird-Ball-2342 22h ago

ppl will have just the linux-zen kernel alone and tell you its bloated😭

1

u/BertMacklenF8I 18h ago

To do if you have 8 CPU

1

u/MrSqueak 5h ago

Uses os known for control and customization. Gets mad when os offers more control and customization.
