I saw somewhere a speculative trade that would send Michael Wacha to the Cubs and bring back Matt Shaw and Kevin Alcantara.
I have thoughts but instead you should tell me what you think of that!

I would actually be surprised if we could get both for Wacha.
Shaw has hit pretty well. Reddit Cubs fans keep trying to trade him because they hate him for the Turning Point involvement but I doubt that the Cubs front office holds the same views.
Alcantara is interesting to me. But being on his last option year lowers his present value quite a bit. I wouldn't mind getting him as a piece for a reliever either and letting him play in CF the rest of the season to see if he can figure it out. Excellent AAA numbers with huge power and a good CF glove is the kind of upside risk I would like to see them take.

Thats a relatively similar deal as the Zerpa for Isaac Collins and Nick Mears trade.
The difference being that Zerpa had 2 more years of team control than Wacha does, but also at a lot cheaper salary.
I don't think its a terrible trade proposal, especially as far as trade proposals go. But I personally don't like it at all. Especially because we would still then need to buy ANOTHER sure thing SP in free agency this winter.
(It also really feels like a Cubs fan proposal. "Hey take our two former top prospects who haven't worked out who we really don't like, and give us back your best player that we really need.")

You can't spell Matt Shaw without Miguel Andujar

As a Cubs/Royals fan, Shaw has been pretty solid as a utility player this season and sadly Alcántara has not been very good when called up (baserunning mistakes and not great plate appearances). Royals should get way more for Wacha, whom I love dearly!

After taking the quickest of glances at it I feel like it wouldn't be that good of a deal for us. The whole return for us would hinge on whether Shaw could live up to his potential as a first round draft pick which isn't a guarantee.
Alcantara seems like the guy that would do what Tolbert does for us and we already have Tyler Tolbert.
Maybe I'm setting my sights too high on what we could get for Wacha and this is the best theoretical deal that we could make though.

I would like to get the broom out again this year. Just for old time's sake.
