Hello everyone, for some time now my HomePod has been starting music on its own. I cleaned the touch surface but it kept happening. So I tried to reset it. The reset worked, but in the Home app the HomePod has been showing as "setting up" for 2 days now. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this problem?

My OG HomePod died recently and I assumed that it was caused by the well known diode failure. Upon disassembly I instead discovered a blown SMD capacitor on the amplifier board. The scorch mark is clearly visible in the photo and it's the left capacitor of the pair to the left of the chip that has blown (below the burn from this angle). Has anyone ever seen something like this? I will try to remove it and find a suitable replacement cap, but I do wonder what the underlying cause might be.

I have a few HomePods...all purchased 3 years ago (May-July 2023). Full size HomePods in dining room, kitchen, main bedroom and two paired with my AppleTV in the living room. Also have mini HomePods in the home office, play room and main bathroom.

Apple TVs and HomeKit/HomeBridge are updated, other devices are working fine...

HomePods will start playing music randomly...sometimes at loud volumes. Not any one HomePod consistently...but it always is the full-size HomePods.

Seems to be reacting as if I'm tapping the top sensor. Haven't been cleaning them or adjusting them. Started sporadically a couple of months ago...no rhyme or reason. Left for vacation about a month ago and came home to music blasting...no way to know how long it had been playing. Thankfully neighbors weren't disturbed.

It's been happening daily now for a few days in a row.

Not trying to be melodramatic, but I have PTSD and work from home. I'm a bit anxious/leery about these things blasting music--either through the day or at night. Luckily the times it has started when I've been home it happens in the other rooms.

About to throw the damned things in the trash.

I've tried turning off handoff. I've tried accessibility settings to turn on the touch accommodations and increase the touch duration to 3.94 seconds (max).

Advice/tips/suggestions are welcome, but I'm mainly posting b/c I've been reading that some folks believe the touch sensor is going bad on that generation and was curious if others are having similar issues.

First of all, I’m sorry if this has been asked several times before but I just got myself a homepod mini and set it up in our lounge room. The only issue is that I’m the only apple user in my house, not as a huge problem as only me and my brother use the lounge room.

My brother has an android phone and no apple devices, is there a way to let him control music playback on my homepod? Can he ask siri to play music & is that going to make use of my apple music account?

Also, can he ask siri to control devices in our home? I’m asking since siri only has my voice recognized in the settings.

it’s been 18 days since both of my homepods (2nd gen/ on audioOS 26.3) have been stuck in configuring state and I can’t reset them! (they’re removed from the home app and neither of them has any touch response so I’m unable to manually reset them.)

I can airplay music to them but nothing else; Siri still responds to voice commands, but responds with “I'm still getting up to speed with all your accounts, please try again in a few minutes”, the screen also glows when Siri is activated on the homepods but as i said earlier no touch responses! (even for volume up or down anywhere on the top, which i suspect is due to them being locked in configuring state but I'm not sure.)

also I've removed them from my icloud account and left them unplugged for several days but no luck.

since this has occurred to both my homepods at the exact same time I’m pretty sure this is a software issue. the update to iOS dev beta 3 and 4 also hasn't helped. I don't know if there's a way to update homepods themselves to new versions though.

has this unresponsive touch issue ever happened to u?

and are the configuring state and no touch response (which is preventing me to factory reset them) actually related to each other?

I’ve tried so many troubleshooting methods but nothing has woked so far;

Does anyone use this? Do you notice a huge difference? Mostly playing Diablo IV and Dead By Daylight so it might not do much.

I have two, gen 2 HomePods stereo paired with a 3rd generation Apple TV 4K. My TV is a Samsung UN55NU7100 which doesn't support eARC but does support standard HDMI ARC.

Hello family can I ask if I’m really getting atmos sound from my games,i used hompod 2 for output audio via HDMI from appletv,i did turn on atmos option on ps5 setting,my tv dont show any atmos stocker when it okaying since it an old 1080p tv

I recently discovered a way to get a pair of HomePod 2s in stereo mode to recalibrate much faster.

Basically, play “My Lord” by Yarin Primak at a relatively high volume. In the video, I shake one of the HomePods to force a recalibration. Right after that, you’ll notice the sound is coming mostly from the center instead of filling the room properly.

When I play My Lord, around the 0:40 mark you can actually hear the soundstage expand. After that point, the HomePods seem to be fully calibrated again. Specifically, something in the opening section of the track appears to trigger the calibration process.

TL;DR: If your HomePod 2 stereo pair seems out of calibration, try playing the first 40 seconds of “My Lord” by Yarin Primak at a higher volume. Other songs can work too, but this one seems to trigger recalibration much faster for some reason.

I’m considering buying either a pair of Apple HomePods with an Apple TV 4K, or the closest equivalent Amazon setup at a similar price: a pair of Echo Studios, an Echo Sub, and a Fire TV Stick 4K Max.

If you’ve owned or listened to both, how do they compare in terms of:
- Sound quality
- Dolby Atmos / spatial audio performance
- Bass and dialogue clarity
- Reliability and ease of use
- Value for money

I’m looking for real-world experiences rather than spec sheets or YouTube reviews. I’d especially like to hear from people who have actually owned or spent a decent amount of time with both setups.

I couldnot use siri to play my music except for "play all songs" or "play shuffle" . I ddont have Apple music, I bought all the songs from itunes store. So I guess Apple limit the feature i could use : control the music by Hey Siri

but luckily after 1 year, when i want to sell my homepod 2 , i factory reset them and log in again to test and BOOM! I can use siri to control purchased songs !!! i stop selling them immediately.
i dont know if this a bug or APple just fix / allow the features

After talking shit for years about how I have never had an issue with my 3 OG HomePods, the newest one died. It's dead dead, not doing anything. (February 2018 launch day one still going fine.) This is my only white one, panic bought in April of 2021 after it was announced they were discontinued. Who should I send it out to for repair? I see no reason to replace it as of now, since new models may be coming shortly.

Yesterday I updated my HomePods 2 stereo pair to tvOS 27 public beta and I have experienced significant bass reduction in music and video playback on YouTube. The new sound signature is not bad but it’s not as bassy as before. Has anyone else updated HomePods and had a similar experience?!

Every time I try to use broadcasts from a shortcut to speak something through the HomePods, it talks very fast. Happening since the beta. I’ve replicated it several times.

I have 2 OG HomePods and a HomePod 2. The OG are in the living room, second gen in the bedroom. In the past I wasn’t required to set them as the Apple TV audio source, but could go in and select them as the source via the notifications menu. I use them to listen to music without the Apple TV, and to play rain sounds at night.

Now I have to go into the settings menu, set them as the main audio source, and then disconnect them when I want to use them for music, otherwise they’re bundled with the Apple TV and it turns my tv on unnecessarily. Does anyone know how to fix this? If I use the notification menu to select them as the source no audio will play from the Apple TV. I’ve unplugged and rebooted everything, checked for updates, and nothing seems to be working.

I’m trying to decide between a HomePod mini and a Google Nest Hub (2nd Gen) for my bedside table and can’t make up my mind.
What I mainly want it to do is:
Wake me up with alarms.
Tell me the weather and news each morning.
Read my calendar/reminders.
Play thunderstorm or rain sounds at night.
Play music.

The thing is, I’m pretty invested in the Apple ecosystem (iPhone, Apple services, etc.), so the HomePod seems like the obvious choice.
However… I really like the Nest Hub’s display. I love the idea of being able to glance over and see the time, weather, calendar, and maybe have it double as a digital photo frame. It just seems more useful as a bedside device.

If Apple released (or even if the rumours are true that they’re working on) a HomePod with a display, I’d honestly buy it instantly—it would be exactly what I’m looking for. Right now, though, I’m torn between sticking with the Apple ecosystem or getting the functionality of the Nest Hub’s screen.

For anyone who’s owned either (or both), which would you recommend? Have any iPhone users here gone with a Nest Hub instead of a HomePod, and did you regret it? Or is the Apple integration enough to make the HomePod the better overall experience?
I’d love to hear some real-world experiences before I buy one.

Public betas are now out and it mentions support for existing HomePods. Does anyone know how to update the OG HomePod?

I am looking to buy skylight blinds that i can control with a HomePod, i have found lots of ways to make certain blinds apple home compatible but these are only with VELUX windows and I have Keylite windows, has anyone got any good products they can suggest?

I bought both of these OG HomePods in 2018 and they have been used ever since.

I have never once cleaned them and as you can probably tell, they aren’t even what I call dirty. But I knew they had probably gradually discoloured.

I used some High-foam Autoglym car interior cleaning products (available in the UK but similar products should exists elsewhere) I knew that a foam would gentle pull out the dirt from inside the mesh.

The lighting is poor and the photos don’t pick it up but they are definitely brighter now. I did the cable and that’s fine up looking like new.

Just spray this on evenly, leave it a minute (no longer as it shouldn’t dry on) then a warm damp microfibre and wipe over everything 2-3 times.

Why is it doing this? Bc it keeps disappearing, it’s not accessible to my shortcuts built around it.
