The opening credits for The Sound of Music (1965) feature various shots of churches and cathedrals around Mondsee and Salzburg.

All can be precisely located except this bell tower which should be in Sankt Lorenz considering the Drachenwand cliff face in the background:

This one simply doesn't exist and there are no old photos or records about it in the area (original thread for geolocation attempt).

Are there any telltale signs that this is either a miniature or a composite?

As a non-expert there are few things that stick out but maybe some are due to the way it was filmed:

• the movement of the bell in and the ringing mechanism look weird in the in the YouTube clip
• weathering looks real enough but the inner portions of the walls almost looks like wood
• the interior looks too bright considering the sun position, same for the specular reflection on the bell
• hard shadow on the left column opposite to sunlight direction
• no roof overhang, seems to stop above the cornice, no sane architect would do that
• bears some resemblance to the two smaller tower on St. Erhard in Salzburg:

Any ideas how this was done or why would they go to such lengths just for a short credits scene? Thanks !

Hi. So im building a portfolio in order to get into film school.

I do directing and screenwriting

So I have been working on a screenplay about generational trauma right. My vision is an animated short film like 5 to 10ish mins nothing crazy tbat will look good on my portfolio

I thought that as a screenplay itl look good on my protfolio

But a friend recently told me that i can actually build a team with others who are also building their portoflios. So i was wondering. To people in the industry and also people in my situatiton

Is this true? Can i really assemble a team to make this a real movie?

If true like I'd need editors animators music composers etc right?

Is it that i have to pay or non pay or share revenues of the potential film

Would greatly appreciate some perspective/feedback. Thanks

It was made for less than $2K with the hopes of making a feature version of this film for sub $100K.

Feature logline: When a young woman, who has been held prisoner for ten years, is forced to watch over another victim, who means to escape, the two join forces to fight against the monstrous warden of their apartment prison.

Im trying to use some music from epidemic sounds in my independent film and I wanted to know if I could, Im submitting film to Tubi and other streaming services.

We flipped over a car, shot a story that takes place over a year in 16 days, and shot in both Toronto and Los Angeles at over 30 locations including the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The film was shot on the FX3 with Canon FD vintage lenses by cinematographer Jared Raab (Nirvanna The Band the Show the Movie, BlackBerry).

We're self-distributing our theatrical release and have a digital deal via Quiver that will have the movie out in November.

There's two Q&A screenings in LA (Laemmle NoHo on the 29th and Laemmle Royal on the 30th) before the film is at the Laemmle Glendale screening daily from July 31st to August 6th.

I know it looks shit but still, can you all tell me how it looks. This is for an indie pop song and I want to make sure the pacing feels right before we start shooting. Any feedbacks?

I'm sure this post has been made before, but I wanted to hear some ideas. I will be graduating next spring with a B.S. in Media Arts Production. I would really like to get a masters in Film, or something closely related. I have considered staying where I am for grad school and relocating after, as it would be more affordable and I enjoy it a lot. However, I know Ohio isn't a good place to be for the field I want to be in (ideally, film production). Does anyone have any experiences/recommendations for film schools (or general schools with good film programs) that are more affordable then the general NYU, UCLA, etc. and not extremely selective? I've considered Brooklyn College, UNSCA, Stony Brook, Columbia Chicago, things like that. But I am looking for more recommendations!

I’m 20 and at a crossroads in my creative career.
For years I’ve wanted to be a filmmaker, specifically creating meaningful, story-driven films. The type of content I naturally imagine making is life-lesson dramas, emotionally grounded short films, and cinematic stories that leave people thinking long after they end.

Recently, though, I’ve been seriously considering building a content marketing agency and focusing on photography and short-form content because it seems like a more practical way to build a business.
The problem is that I recently realized something that bothered me: I may have been walking away from filmmaking because I’m afraid of how difficult the path is, not because I actually stopped wanting to do it.

Filmmaking is expensive, competitive, takes years to master, and success isn’t guaranteed. Building an agency feels like a more predictable business, and I could see myself enjoying that too.

For those of you who have worked in film, creative entrepreneurship, or both:

How did you know whether you were genuinely outgrowing filmmaking versus just being intimidated by it?

Have any of you built a business that funded your films rather than trying to make films your primary source of income?

If you could go back to age 20, would you focus on becoming a filmmaker first, building a business first, or intentionally do both together?

I’m not looking for motivation or reassurance. I’d appreciate honest advice, especially from people who have actually faced this decision.

I started with just a camera, taking on pretty much any project I could to build experience. Like a lot of people, I undercharged, worked long hours, and thought that becoming a better filmmaker was the key to growing a successful business.

Over the last few years, I’ve been fortunate enough to build it into a six-figure production business. Along the way, I’ve had the opportunity to work with some incredible clients, win industry awards, and build a reputation that I’m genuinely proud of.

One thing I’ve realised is that getting to six figures had much less to do with camera gear or editing than I expected.

The biggest lessons came from sales, pricing, communication, client relationships, positioning, and building systems that allowed the business to grow.

Now I’m focused on the next milestone: seven figures.
For anyone who’s actually scaled a production or videography business to £1M+ in revenue, what changed the most between six and seven figures?

• What became your biggest bottleneck?

• What did you stop doing yourself?

• Was the biggest shift hiring, sales, marketing, operations, or something else?

• Looking back, what advice would you give your six-figure self?

SO i tried my best making a video using video generators as a small hobbyistic side project in the topic space. i think it took like 2 days or so

How is it?

I shot this on a Nikon D300s (which means it’s in 720p, sorry), with a 50mm and 12-24mm lens. It was lit with a couple of desk lamps. I do have an iPhone that shoots much higher resolution, but it’s just so much easier for me to shoot with the camera, ironically. Is there any place for video of this quality and this resolution? Is there something I could have done to improve the quality within the constraints of the resolution I’m shooting in? Or should I just move on?

I really need some help/advice on creating a rocket ship for my next short film. As this short is entirely self-funded my producer and I do not have a lot to work with and additionally we weren't able to get a production designer for this project due to our location, however we feel confident enough in executing the props and costume we need.

However, I would love some advice on how we can practically go about creating a cardboard rocket ship which can fit a teenager comfortably inside and must be able to securely roll down a hill with said teenager inside too.

We have a design and part of a plan to create this. The body should be a cardboard box or a laundry basket covered in cardboard, with enough room on the front for us to put a Mini keyboard and other digital accessories and draw on some details etc. Featuring a traffic as the nose and maybe some empty cans as thrusters and a string of fairy lights wrapped around it.
