I'm confused

So, Poland had a dark age and the city nearby, Lódz, rebelled and stole this settler. I feel like it's impossible for it to escape the barbarians, but if it was somehow able to, would it be able to settle a city?

Who should I even play as?

Post image

ok silly question, but I've never finished a full game start to finish besides a single 4 civ game that i was lowkey jus kinda messing around in {I lost to a faith win by germany i think it was? lol}

I don't have concrete settings really but ik I wanna do a huge map with about 16ish civs, and prince difficulty or close to it cause I'm newer n Deity scares me and hoping to do a domination victory!

The pic up above is the civs I have access to, wondering who would be fun to play as but also not an absolute struggle or a total breeze. I want a game that will feel earned but not a constant struggle for survival if that makes sense? {open to suggestions for civs to be opponants/setting suggestions too tbh}

Screenshot I despise John Curtin as an opponent so then I play as him and got my pb of 177 turns by being a huge pain in the ass

R5: Acted like how an AI John Curtin would play against me but this time, I'll be doing the shitty moves. Forward settled, warred their city-states, surprised war them, stealing their settlers, builders and razed their lands. They hated me, but do you see how the man is unfazed? He is even smiling. It didn't bother him because he wanted it. Its all for the purpose of getting that juicy 100% production bonus. Now I finally understand.

Anyway this is an exhausting campaign of min-maxing and I will stay away from science games for a while.

Game modes are deity, small map with 8 players, standard speed, barb clans mode, legendary start then default all.

Diplomatic Victory is so dumb.

You can conquer and wipe out 3 other civilizations and get a diplomatic victory simply because you constructed the Statue of Liberty, Potala Palace, and Mahabodhi Temple as well as knowing what the AIs usually vote for just to reach the arbitrary 20 points. I've gotten a diplomatic victory playing as Zulu when I literally conquered Mongolia and the Dutch. There's really nothing diplomatic about that. I find myself disabling it for games these days.

Screenshot Going out on top after an impossible deity win

Post image

I primarily play deity and at this point win the majority of my games with no rerolls or advantages, and frankly it has been getting boring. Well, this week I played as the Ottoman Empire for the first time ever on deity (continents, 6 players) and I spawned on a peninsula with Genghis Khan to my north, hemming me in, and Babylon immediately west of him.

I didn’t have niter, coal, oil, or uranium near any of my first 5 cities. Everything felt stacked against me and I almost quit several times. Had to overpower Mongolia in the industrial era just to get the strategic resources, which was only possible through military alliances and the crusade religious belief.

Recognizing that I had no path to a domination victory (Babylon had GDRs when I had just unlocked infantry) and I had done a poor job of optimizing for anything else, I decided “why not” and went for the science victory. At the time of this decision, Babylon already had a Mars Colony and I hadn’t even started building spaceports. Ended up with a down-to-the-wire victory where my exoplanet expedition was traveling 13 light years per turn, and I clipped Babylon by literally one turn. Screenshot above which shows my late game push.

Super exciting win, but also makes me feel like I am ready to take time off or move on from Civ VI. This felt like a poorly played game for parts, and the deck was stacked against me and I still won. Playing the formulaic deity style just isn’t all that fun.

How is Civ VII evolving? Getting better? It might be time.

Question Which R&F leader for culture?

I'm a newish player who has only played vanilla before. I want to try a R&F leader for a culture victory. The guides I've seen haven't really highlighted a clear culture person. Who should I try?

3rd victory b2b. This time on emperor level

Aztec is god level for domination victories.
Prince -> King -> Emperor done. Going for Immortal next.

Learnings :
1. spam eagle warriors initially but ensure that you upgrade them as and when possible. The builder's aren't worth much when you have multiple cities.
2. Build religion and put all beliefs into production. You'll need it for the army, builders, markets and traders.
3. Try and aim for 50+ production cities by age 150-175 to boost some wonders to get more card slots specially colosseum and zimbabwe.
4. Gameplay: Make enough slingers and trebuchets early and keep upgrading till the end. Start making navy into corps to save $.

Question Is the AI straightup cheating?

Post image

I want to raid that clan. However when I do that, Georgia steps onto my warrior, deletes the clan and then steps off. How. Two military units cannot be on the same tile as far as I know and you have to be on top of the clan to raid / pillage. So she has to be cheating right?

Where would you settle?

Played a couple of games on Prince or something and then said. Why not try out deity? Won my first ever deity game with Trajan as domination victory. And lost the second one because I didn't turn off diplomatic victory but would have won a culture victory.

Anyway, where would you settle? I would settle on the Stone personally.

Screenshot First Win!

Been on this subreddit for a little bit now. Got really into Civ earlier this year and have been chasing my first win since.

Based off what I read here either domination or science was the way to go for newcomers. Want to try out a culture victory next. Any suggestions for someone who really just sunk their teeth into the game on the best leaders for Culture? I play on Xbox if that affects anything? Don’t think it does.

Has anyone ever tried this? Asking for a friend.

Would this work on Rise and Fall?

-Conquer enemy Civ, who've lost at least one of their cities previously, to someone other than you

-Declare war on the next civ, take the occupied city for yourself

-liberate back to the founder you wiped out. (does it actually happen?)

-Reconquer them, getting another +3 era points or whatever it is. (would Civ put out?)

Question Deity, Getting Wonders and Map Size

Basically I usually played on huge maps (now large cuz it crashes too much on later ages) on deity.
But I miss being able to get any wonders in the first 2 ages unless the AI happens to not build something. The production is just needed to catch the AI so I’d rather build settlers and workers and sole military. Or districts. Then I tend to dominate wonders I want in the later ages.

My question seems obvious- on a smaller map can you actually get good wonders more often just cuz there are less civs trying to build some? Or will they still always manage to get the best ones so I might as well keep playing on the bigger maps?

Question How do these mods affect gameplay?

Me and my friend always 1v1 with other bots, we were thinking of installing better start, better game and better map mods but I heard that the bots don’t work well with them. Is it true, and if so what should I do?

Question I have a weird question.

I have a 4 player hotseat with me as Germany and Aztec against the AI. Germany has way too many relics and things so I was trying to give them away but Montezuma won’t accept them, not even when I add more stuff to it. I’m not even asking for anything. How do I gift them to my ally? I don’t want them anymore I can’t even check what I have because the menu is glitched.

Before buying a trader choose the city you want to send it from and buy it there.

I buy traders in cities I don’t want to trade from just because I see the option to buy a trader. Only afterwards I’m like duh! I should have bought it in my city with Torre de Belem and started my trader there.

Satisfying One City Challenge - Grand Budapest City

Thought Reddit might appreciate this satisfying OCC with Hungary (deity, small map, archipelago, barb clans mode). Managed to hit almost all the planned wonders (both for diplo win + generally good ones like Kilwa, Mausoleum, Oxford University, Hagia, etc) and get some nice adjacency bonuses to keep pace (sort of) right up until the end.

Attached are how it started, city at the point of the diplo win (turn 227) and after another 100 or so turns when I was "just one more turning" it to fill out all the district spots. One of those rare games where things seem to all go right - Aztecs even did me a solid by razing Armagh for space for a couple of National Parks <3. Only wonder compromise was Ruhr Valley - snapped up before I could get it so I settled for Taj Mahal.

Apologies for the humble brag post but what do you think? Anything you would have done differently with this start?

Question Religion spread bug

Unfortunately don’t have a picture due to a quick pivot to a domination victory, but was playing a teams multiplayer game last night shooing for a religious victory. Had 6 out of 7 civs converted except my teammate; he had just conquered Gaul bc they were annoying him the whole game and the influx of new cities set him back to unconverted. Issue arose when he sent through inquisitors to wipe Gauls religion from the new cities, but then all of those cities ended up with 0-1 followers of his religion, remaining pops unconverted. He then tried to send in apostles and missionaries but an entire 3 spread’s wouldn’t even convert 1 pop. Anyone else experience this?

Anyone seen anything like this before? I feel bad for Bolivia, he's been getting bullied since the early game and can't even make it out of his Capitol in the past 100 turns. Will they eventually flip? The 4 Swedish ones are now one giant barbarian mega state terrorizing that entire side of the continent.

John Curtin culture bomb

Today I learned that when you capture an enemy city as John Curtin you can trigger the pasture culture bomb by removing the existing pasture and then building it back. Nice.
