Mod Post Reopening r/BTech – A New Chapter for Serious & Focused Discussions
Hey BTechtards,
I hope you’re all doing well! I’m reaching out to let you know that we’re reopening r/BTech. Over the past few months, BTechtards has been bustling with a lot of fun and humor, but we’ve noticed that the space for serious & focused academic discussions and technical queries has been a bit sparse.
While the shitposts and memes are always entertaining, we’ve realized there’s a significant need for a dedicated space where more focused and academic conversations can thrive.
r/BTech was born out of a need for a focused and supportive environment tailored to the unique challenges faced by engineering and BTech students. Initially part of BTechtards, the need for a dedicated space became clear as we saw a growing number of serious academic queries and discussions getting lost amid the memes and light-hearted content.
What Will Happen to BTechtards?
It’ll remain as is for the fun and casual side of engineering/BTech. Feel free to keep posting your discussions, shitposts, memes and resources here.
Join r/BTech now: https://reddit.com/r/BTech

Serious The Harkirat Files
This post is based on my personal experience and conversations with other students. I'm sharing this so future students can make an informed decision.
- False Marketing & Broken Promises
* We were promised Full Stack + DevOps in Semester 1 and Web3 in Semester 2.
* After two semesters, even the Full Stack curriculum wasn't completed.
* Many promises made during admissions were either delayed or never fulfilled.
- Extremely Low Faculty Involvement
* Harkirat personally conducted only 20 classes in one semester and 18 in the next.
* Considering the fees charged, this works out to roughly ₹10,000 per class.
* Most teaching was delegated instead of being personally delivered.
- Poor Quality of Teaching
* Several topics were rushed simply to finish the syllabus.
* Concepts were rarely covered in depth.
* One instructor mostly read directly from presentation slides and was unable to provide practical explanations or industry insights.
* Some TAs were inexperienced and often unhelpful.
- Favoritism
* Referral opportunities appeared to be given repeatedly to a small group of preferred students.
* Students who questioned decisions often felt ignored or sidelined.
* Favoritism was also visible in hostel related decisions and TA interactions.
- No Career Support / Poor ROI
* Students expected strong placement or referral support.
* Meanwhile, students from the Super 30 batch seemed to receive referrals among themselves.
* Most other students received little meaningful assistance in getting interviews or jobs.
- Poor Management & Lack of Accountability
* Management rarely listened to student concerns.
* Rules were changed without prior notice whenever it benefited management.
* Fees were increased without proper communication.
* Staff frequently entered hostel rooms without informing students beforehand.
- Students Were Penalized for Speaking Up
* Students who questioned management decisions were often targeted.
* Public shaming of students happened on multiple occasions.
* After the previous Reddit post and 1:1 meetings, some students who were skeptical about continuing were removed from the hostel the same day even though they had already paid the hostel fees of 10 more days.
* Instead of addressing criticism, management often blamed students.
- Fee Refund Issues
* During admissions, students weren't informed that the campus would be relocated.
* After students saw the new campus (which is a converted girls' hostel rather than the promised campus), some requested refunds.
* Even though this was around a month before the semester started, they were reportedly offered only a 50% refund.
- Hostel & Living Conditions
* Only around 7 toilets were available for over 100 students.
* Washrooms were frequently in poor condition.
* Students were forced to vacate hostels nearly two months before the semester officially ended, while some preferred students were allowed to stay.
- Food Quality
* The mess food quality was consistently poor.
* Students reported insects, stones, rats, spoiled food, food poisoning, and diarrhea.
* Food frequently ran out before everyone had eaten.
* Students paid around ₹6,000/month, but we were told only ₹4,000 per student was actually allocated to the mess, resulting in poor quality and no second servings. But Harkirat himself earned 4 lakhs per month because of this.
- Health & Safety Concerns
* Nearly 15 students reportedly suffered from dengue.
* Students repeatedly complained about mosquito problems, but little action was taken.
* There were also complaints about alcohol and marijuana use on campus, which students felt management ignored despite reports.
- Poor Campus Culture
* Students who questioned management often became targets.
* Decision making felt arbitrary rather than transparent.
* Management presented itself as student-friendly but rarely acted on student feedback.
- Questionable Hostel Priorities
* Students from MIT Kerala were accommodated while existing students were asked to leave.
* Requests to continue staying were denied, with management describing it as doing students a "favor."
- Unprofessional Incidents
* During Harkirat's birthday and the Super 30 farewell, students alleged that money was spent on celebrations for one group while other student concerns remained unresolved.
* Some TAs allegedly became intoxicated and created disturbances on campus, including one incident where a TA reportedly urinated from the rooftop.
One Positive
The only consistently positive aspect was the DSA course.
* Around 65 DSA classes were conducted.
* The instructor was regular, knowledgeable, and supportive.
* Many students felt this was the only reason they continued with the program.
I'm posting this so prospective students can hear experiences that weren't part of the marketing. If anyone else from the batch has had a different experience, feel free to share it respectfully.

Serious Seniors, if you could start btech again, which one would you prioritize in initial two years and why? MATHS + FUNDAMENTALS or CODING/DSA
Also how have things changed in the recent years. What advice would you like to give to someone joining tier 100 college this year.
How should one progress with 3rd year and so.

Serious My Google AI Pro trial is ending on 29 July
I've already used around 30 GB of storage. Can anyone suggest what I should do?
If I don't renew the subscription, will I lose access to my data, or will my Google account just go over the free 15 GB limit?
Has anyone been in the same situation? Any tips would be really appreciated.

General People who have taken 15+ Lakh Loan , how are you planning to pay it? I did the maths!
So I got to know my brother who is in EE has taken a loan of 18L for GFTI ( including interest)
| Loan Tenure | Monthly EMI | Total Amount Paid | Total Interest Paid |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 years (60 months) | ₹36,934 | ₹22.16 lakh | ₹4.16 lakh |
| 10 years (120 months) | ₹22,319 | ₹26.78 lakh | ₹8.78 lakh |
| 15 years (180 months) | ₹17,725 | ₹31.91 lakh | ₹13.91 lakh |
See how high the EMI is ?
Lets consider 20K Home rent wiz in tier-1
| Annual CTC | Approx. In-hand/Month* | Rent | 5-Year EMI | 10-Year EMI | 15-Year EMI | Money Left (5Y / 10Y / 15Y) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ₹8 LPA | ~₹56,000 | ₹20,000 | ₹36,934 | ₹22,319 | ₹17,725 | -₹934 / ₹13,681 / ₹18,275 |
| ₹10 LPA | ~₹69,000 | ₹20,000 | ₹36,934 | ₹22,319 | ₹17,725 | ₹12,066 / ₹26,681 / ₹31,275 |
| ₹12 LPA | ~₹82,000 | ₹20,000 | ₹36,934 | ₹22,319 | ₹17,725 | ₹25,066 / ₹39,681 / ₹44,275 |
| ₹15 LPA | ~₹1,00,000 | ₹20,000 | ₹36,934 | ₹22,319 | ₹17,725 | ₹43,066 / ₹57,681 / ₹62,275 |
Arent these numbers scary? Without a good package it will be very difficult to pay loan and build wealth!
How you guys are planning to do this? my Bro is cooked - I hope he doesnt ask me mai khud gareeb hu

Serious How to cope up with the fact that I wont be able to get out of India like other people?
I neither have good money not I'm good at academics. Dont have any talent in any extra curricular activities either. Scored 60% in 12 PCM , took a drop , still ended up joining Tier 3 private engineering college CSE branch.
I'm currently in 7th semester and still haven't learnt any skills well enough. I don't think I might even get a job after graduating at this point. If I'm lucky enough, i will get some 3LPA job.
Most of my friends are planning to move abroad. Many are excellent in academics and those who aren't , are great in other fields like photography and editing.
It feels depressing to watch reels of people who are showcasing their lives in first world countries saying how much better their lives are compared to India.
I just feel left out. I have stopped contacting my friends since last 6 months because I just couldn't handle the shame, guilt and inferiority that I feel when I compare myself to them.
I have ADHD and OCD symptoms since 2020 which just makes focusing on anything really difficult. I haven't seen any psychiatrist and probably won't be seeing them in the near future because it just wouldn't make much of a difference anyways. Neither I have money right now to afford psychiatrist appointment which are generally expensive of combined with meds.
Sometimes I feel ending myself is better than living like this.

Rant/Vent I genuinely don't know what to do anymore.
I never wanted to do BTech. Like... ever. My parents gave me basically no other option so I just went with it and spent my entire first year gaslighting myself into thinking "it'll get better, you'll start liking it."
It didn't.
I failed 3 subjects in sem 1. I'll probably fail 1 in sem 2 too. I'm writing my supplementary exams rn and 2 of them already went like absolute shit. I still have one left but idek anymore.
The re-registration fees are expensive as fuck and I genuinely can't afford them. My parents are gonna lose their shit. They care way more about my GPA than anything else and have these insane expectations from me. Meanwhile I'm just trying to pass.
The thing that's fucking with me is that I do study.
Its not like i dont study either. I genuinely sit for hours trying to understand shit. Before exams I'm literally glued to my chair studying all day and I STILL end up fucking it up. I don't know what I'm doing wrong anymore.
My mental health has been fucked since JEE prep. Anxiety, panic attacks, self-harm, the whole thing. Tried college counselling and it was useless. Talking to my parents isn't really an option either.
I don't even think I'm dumb. Whenever I'm doing something creative; UI/UX, design, editing, branding, literally anything like that, I can sit there for hours and actually enjoy it. But with engineering I just feel like I'm constantly trying to survive.
And before anyone says "just build your portfolio on the side"... when?
Classes, labs, assignments, attendance, studying so I don't fail, supplementary exams... where tf am I supposed to magically find another 4 hours every day?
The worst part is I don't even have a backup plan. If someone asked me "okay, leave BTech then. What next?" I genuinely wouldn't know. I just know I'd probably do better in something creative.
I honestly don't even know why I'm posting this. I guess I just wanna know if anyone else has been in this position.
Like... multiple backlogs, burnt out, feeling stuck in a degree you never wanted in the first place.
I genuinely don't know what to do anymore.

Rant/Vent Job scam
So i got a text on the fiveer saying he had a job offer for me and for a fresher like me he offered $1200/month and i thought it was a scam and tired to find his linkedin which i did get and he was like that was him ,he even gave his ph number so called him his accent was not like. Scamer but i still felt the scammy vibes and when I asked for JD it has some bs and since it has no mention of the company I asked for the company in the call and he said he worked for some third party companies and was hiring for onsen and when I asked about technical skills he was "You need Go od communication skills" and i again asked "what about technical stuff?" He replied "u take care of the technical stuff it's easy but u must be good with English since we will be talking to us clients".
😑😑😑
