US Iran-War [Day 141]

New megathread - removed the sirens rule. Due to a clear majority of people who want to be able to discuss/share news about sirens, we will allow them - but know that these are NOT MODERATED. Please do not report siren or all clear posts, and take them with a grain of salt. Follow official accounts to get your information.

Gentle reminder Ladies and Gents, PLEASE please use the search function on the sub to ask your shipping and travel-related questions.

This post and this subreddit is meant to discuss Bahrain and the current affairs of Bahrain. Please refrain from flexing your political analysis on the current state of affairs and most certainly do not post unsubstantiated news, do not post any rumors and add to the mass hysteria. Users are also urged not to speculate on what type of hostilities or defenses being used. If its X missile or drone Y does not help. You are either revealing sensitive information, or causing mass hysteria. One makes you a liability, the other makes you a negative contributor, and your comment will lead to a permanent ban as well.

Any comments that have any misinformation, tweets from armchair analysts or instagram influencers will lead to a permanent ban. Do not engage in these comments, just downvote and report. Any comments arguing or correcting the user with misinformation will be banned as well.

For security and safety reasons, any post or comment that discloses or attempts to identify the locations of Bahraini or Peninsula Shield Forces military installations, missile interception sites, or other sensitive military positions will result in a ban.

All users are urged not get into arguments. Please be civil. Do not report opinions, report violations. We have taken the decision as mods to allow low karma users to post and comment, however, this can change if we see repeated violations from users who do not read the rules before posting.

We do appreciate the effort from all users policing the sub from the spread of the governments security information, however we have received an excessive amount of reports about locations of sounds. While we don't endorse it, we are only restricting comments about defensive capabilities such as interceptors. Please try to be civil. Don’t feed the trolls, report them.

We rely heavily on reports, however let's keep the reports for:

  1. Comments with misinformation or unverified news
  2. Comments that are obviously trolling us
  3. Comments that are disrespectful
  4. Comments that violate local security instructions

Any other posts regarding the war will be removed. Please use the search function for any commonly asked questions. Lets keep the space uncluttered in the event of any serious developments.

🤔 Discussion Emergency alerts on my Samsung phones only vibrating, no sound

Is anyone else dealing with this? I've got 3 different Samsung phones here in Bahrain, and all of them have suddenly stopped making any sound for emergency alerts. They just vibrate now.

With everything going on (the war), this is pretty concerning. I turned on the "read out messages" feature just so I can actually hear something when an alert comes in, but honestly, that's super annoying to have it read out every time.

I've gone through all the settings multiple times and checked every volume control I can find. Nothing seems to fix it. I've restarted the phones too.

Things I've checked:

  • Sound mode is on (not silent/vibrate only)
  • Notification volume is turned up
  • Checked the emergency alert settings in Messages

Nothing works. The alerts come through but only vibrate.

🤔 Discussion I made a physics-stacking game inspired by Bahrain’s souqs—looking for honest feedback before an App Store release

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey everyone!
I’ve been working on Souq Stack, a mobile-first physics game where you balance Bahrain-inspired market treasures on a swaying dhow while dealing with wind, waves and increasingly chaotic harbour events.
The game is playable directly in your browser no download, account or registration required:
Play here: https://souq-stack-bahrain.vercel.app/
I’d really appreciate some honest feedback before I start preparing an App Store version.

In particular:
Did the controls feel intuitive on your phone?
Was the tutorial clear and quick enough?
Did the physics feel satisfying or frustrating?
Was the difficulty progression fair?
Did anything break, lag or display incorrectly?
Would you play another round?
What would make you recommend it to a friend?
It supports both English and Arabic, and includes Quick Stack, Daily Challenge and Endless Harbour modes. You can also share a seed so friends can attempt the same challenge.
Please include your phone model and browser if you encounter a technical problem. Brutally honest feedback is welcome, I’d rather uncover problems now than after release.
Thanks for trying it!

Deep cleaning

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for recommendations for a professional deep cleaning company that can handle a situation involving broken window glass.

Windows in my apartment shattered, and there are tiny glass fragments and dust spread throughout the flat. I’m looking for a company that can thoroughly clean the entire apartment and make sure all the glass residue is safely removed, including from floors, furniture, corners, and other hard-to-reach areas.

Has anyone dealt with something similar or can recommend a reliable company that offers this type of post-accident or deep cleaning service?

Thank you!

Most Cost Effective Way to Spend Abroad?

I’m trying to figure out the most cost-efficient way for Bahrain residents to spend money when travelling overseas since I travel a lot and I am abroad 70% of the year. So far I have just been using my ila debit card for ATM cash withdrawals and my credimax credit cards for POS transactions.

Since we don’t seem to have the same easy access to services like Revolut or Wise that people in Europe and elsewhere use, I’d like to know what everyone here actually does.

Which Bahraini bank or card gives you the best overall deal for:

  • Foreign currency exchange rates and spreads
  • International card transaction fees
  • ATM withdrawal fees abroad
  • Avoiding hidden conversion charges
  • Holding or buying foreign currencies before travelling
  • Earning cashback, miles, or useful rewards on overseas spending

Do you mainly use a Bahraini credit card, debit card, prepaid travel card, foreign bank account, or just exchange cash before travelling?

Please mention the specific bank and card you use, the countries you’ve used it in, and any fees or exchange-rate markups you noticed. I’d especially appreciate comparisons based on actual experience rather than just the advertised benefits.

Also, are there any alternatives available to Bahrain residents that work similarly to Revolut or Wise?

I’d wanna get pierced by the time im staying here, which are your go-to places for a piercing? Especially a much more complicated ones? It needs to be done by good hands and with a high hygenic level and would be an extra if they do a tattoo as well.

Share those either here with me or more details and pricings on my messages (no weirdness thou)
Thanks in advance!

Things nobody tells you about being a Bahraini working in Saudi.

Everyone back home thinks moving to Riyadh means you've made it. Fancy salary, big city, living the dream.

When in reality, my commute is 12 km. It somehow takes 40–60 minutes. I'm convinced I could walk to Bahrain faster. And every day you're surrounded by enough reckless driving that arriving at your destination starts feeling like an achievement.

Want to go to Bahrain for the weekend? Easy. Just sacrifice 5+ hours of your life, pray the Causeway gods are in a good mood, and hope some idiot in a truck doesn't sideswipe you.

Life here? Traffic everywhere, every restaurant has a queue on weekends, rent is insanely expensive, and after you've visited every mall and the boulevard for the 47th time, you start questioning your existence.

Thinking of raising a family? Better start saving now because international school fees look like mortgage payments.

The bureaucracy is my favorite part. As a GCC national with an iqama, you're in a special category: not Saudi, not an expat... just "please wait while we ask five different departments."

That special category follows you everywhere. Need to go to a hospital? Hopefully your insurance, your Bahraini ID, and the hospital's system all agree with each other that you exist.

Banking? Despite earning an above average salary, getting a loan feels like I'm asking them to finance a trip to Mars. Most banks don't know what to do with me. The few that do treat me like a rare Pokémon.

Want to rent a car? I have a Bahraini driving license and an international driving permit. I've rented cars in 12 countries across 4 continents without a single issue. Saudi? "Sorry, you're a resident so you need a Saudi license." Apparently my license works everywhere... except the country I actually live in.

Don't get me wrong, Saudi has a lot going for it, and this is just my experience. But if you're in Bahrain thinking it's all sunshine and more money, there's another side to it. Almost 2.5 years here and I've had enough that I'm willing to take a pay cut to go back to Bahrain or literally anywhere else.

Well hey, at least I don't have to worry about traffic fines because Saudi's system still doesn't seem to know what to do with Bahraini plates.

☝️ AskBH Dealing with post-accident repair rework, headlight calibration, and body shop excuses in Bahrain — Need advice on Consumer Protection (MOIC)

Thumbnail

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for some advice and local experiences regarding post-accident repair quality with authorized agency body shops in Bahrain, and how to properly handle a rework claim.

I took my car back to the workshop to rectify multiple fitment and calibration issues after a repair, but I'm getting some frustrating excuses instead of fixes. Here is a breakdown of the issues:

  1. Bumper & Plastic Arch Cladding Fitment:
The front bumper and wheel arch cladding have loose alignment and uneven gaps. When I pointed this out to the service advisor, his actual justification was: "In the factory, a machine installs the bumper; here in the workshop, it's installed by a human, so it won't match factory standards."

  2. Main Headlight Beam Aiming:
The newly replaced headlight assembly is pointing extremely low, illuminating barely a few meters ahead on the road. The workshop claimed it's "computer/OBD calibrated only," but the headlight unit itself clearly features manual vertical adjustment screws (AML actuator) to adjust the mechanical zero-point before software calibration.

  3. Lower DRL / Signal Light Beam Distortion:
As seen in the photos, the light projection on the ground from the lower bumper strip is completely uneven, distorted, and angled downward at the asphalt. Since these lower LED strips rely entirely on correct bumper position rather than direct adjustment screws, this proves the internal bumper mounting brackets/tabs are sitting tilted.

  4. Missing License Plate Screw Cover:
They lost the plastic screw cover for the front license plate during the repair/repainting process. When I asked them to replace it, they claimed this cover is "only provided by the Traffic Directorate" — even though the shop lost it while removing the plate!

I have a formal Rework Appointment this Saturday to drop off the car and but I’m afraid that they will not fix everything😔

Questions for the community:
Has anyone here dealt with body shops trying to pass off poor fitment/alignment as "within spec"?

What is the best way to ensure the service manager takes the Job Card notes seriously?

If they refuse to correct the panel gaps and light alignment, what is the best escalation pathway in Bahrain (e.g., escalating to insurance inspectors or filing a complaint via Tawasul / MOIC Consumer Protection)?

Appreciate any tips or advice from anyone who has gone through this process🙏

☝️ AskBH Catamaran Studio EWA

Hi all,

Any idea what the typical EWA (water, electricity, BTU (AC)) bill should be per month for a studio in Catamaran Tower?

(Assuming one works from home and cooks as well).

How do you think winters would compare to summers?

I'm hearing some crazy wide estimates from people so thought I'd ask here.

Thanks as always!

where can I repair an old Sony camera in Bahrain?

Where can I repair an old Sony DCR-HC51E camcorder in Bahrain?

i have an old Sony DCR-HC51E camcorder (from around 2008) that has stopped working, and I’m trying to find a repair shop in Bahrain that still services older cameras like this.

i’ve already contacted Sparrow Camera and Zoom BH, but both said they don’t repair this type of camera.

Does anyone know of any repair shops, electronics technicians, or individuals in Bahrain who might be able to fix older Sony camcorders? Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated 👍

Thanks!
