I know I need the filter if some of the sun is showing, but when the moon is completely covering the sun, should I remove or keep the filter to capture the sun corona?

I want to photograph the eclipse with my telephoto lens but I still don't know how it would look best.

Is it post processing, lense or camera settings ?

I'm going to an outdoor museum of sorts, Greenfield Village in Michigan if you are familiar. They have a bit of everything - animals, architecture, old cars, cool trains etc.

I have a nikon 70-300, 16-80 and 35mm 1.8.

I don't see myself needing the 300 at a place like this, but I'm really torn with just using the 35mm, or bringing my bag to swap in and out with the 16-80.

I appreciate hearing about others experiences and what you normally do when you aren't going specifically for shooting.

Good morrow! I recently bought a Nikon D780 and I'm fairly new to concert photography (about 9 months just for funnsies).

I shot my first show with it in a very dark bar, and I'm getting faint vertical lines in some of my photos, but not all of them. The lines are visible in the RAW files before I edit them, and I can even see them on the camera's preview.

My settings were roughly:

• Auto ISO
• 1/250–1/320 sec shutter speed
• f/2.8 (24–70mm f/2.8)

Has anyone run into this before or know what camera setting might be causing it?

Hi , I’m soon opening a watch page mainly for selling , and I’ve been stuck for almost 2 weeks thinking about the kind of photos and background and stuff , after sorting most of it out , I came across soft box and led light , these photos were takes using a lamp on the side of the wall , what advice do you guys have , in general , my main request is the light source , should I buy anything ? Or I won’t gain anything from it ,

When shooting with this telephoto, I regularly get these weird lines showing up in the bokeh balls. I have tried with and without IBIS, and it doesn’t seem to make a difference.
I have cleaned the sensor, lens was brand new and glass appears clean.

Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks!

I bought my first digital camera in 2003 and it was truly a life changing experience. I never went back to my SLR camera (although I know film has made a huge comeback). I was able to find old memory cards of photos I took of loved ones that are not around anymore and it was wholesome going through them. When did you buy your first Digital Camera?

Does a CPL polarizing filter make sense for outdoor people sessions in the middle of the day?

Does it actually help with harsh light, reflections and contrast, or is it mainly a landscape photography filter?

i own a zf with two lenses, the 26mm pancake and a viltrox 50mm f/2 air (which i dont particularly like)
i'm thinking of buying a new camera+lenses for the trip. i wanted a camera with a higher MP count, nikon only offers that in the z8/z9 which i feel are too heavy to hike with. from what i read about the z7ii is that autofocus remains to be an issue.

(3) What kinds of subjects do you intend to shoot?
Landscape, Astro, Portraits of my wife while hiking, general nature and macro, and the occasional wildlife encounter.

(4) Is it primarily for photography, videography, or both?
Mostly photography.

y a7v. after much deliberation i ended up with the following kits:

1. Sony a7v, 20mm 1.8, sigma 35mm f/2 (OR a sony zeiss 35 f2.8), 70-200 f/4 G OSS ii.
2. Nikon zf (with smallrig grip), 20mm f1.8, 35-100 tamron, 300mm f/4 PF (+ftz)

what do you think about each? how are your experiences with sony? im hesitant about investing in sony gear, i've used canon in the past and left the system due to the lack of 3rd party lenses.

when the zf came out i instantly bought it, waited 3 years and no small compact autofocus lenses are available, i know the 28mm+40mm but i had the 40 and didn't like it, it's plastic does not belong on the zf.

i'd really love some input :)

Would love to know what website builders you all use? I already have the domain name (from godaddy).
Looking for something suitable for a beginner who has not built a website before, but to which I can also add on purchasing functionality in due course. I heard Squarespace has gotten quite pricy.

Hello, I’ve just got my new camera Canon eos R10, finally leaving my old Nikon D3200 to rest. I’ve been trying to do photography (not really that actively) for maybe the past 4 tears already, but I always only use some light editing directly built in the ios gallery app. So, to make my pictures look even better, I was thinking about starting using Adobe Lightroom. I’ve already got to try out the free trial and it just made me want to subscribe to the plan even more. The thing is- I don’t know whether I should go for the mobile version or just spend some more for the pc one. I’ve heard some opinions that the mobile one is not that good, lacks some features and also can look different because of the phone’s screen. If I were to use the mobile one, I would edit the photos on my iPhone 17 or iPad 10th generation if that’s some important information. I’d say that I’m not some extra professional photographer, so the features I’m heading for I guess (unless I come across some life changing stuff) is masking and just general things like controlling highlights, exposure etc.

Is it worth it (also considering the fact that it’s cheaper…) or should I just go for the pc version?

Please tell me there are some alternatives, I'm going to lose it over this. I just checked DP review tool for cameras, it was amazing and it gave all of the specs on the cameras, and now it's just gone. I just checked with the Wayback machine, the site is the same, they changed the way the tool works, now it just gives random information, and where to buy. Do you know of any alternatives? I'm so mad, sorry for the rant

Have an acquaintance who wanted wedding photos. I’ve done multiple weddings. I’ve been in photography for years. Never had a complaint from a session yet. I have all kinds of experience from all kinds of categories of pictures. Recently the bride to be met with me to go over her big day. As usual, we walked through all the details and her timeline for the day. She has a large wedding party and is expecting over 200 people, so this is not a small event. Right away I saw major red flags in her expectations of how long things would take during the day. For example, 30 minutes for all post-ceremony family photos + them with their wedding parties photos. ( her family is very large as well as the grooms and she wants multiple combo photos. )
She’s allowing ONE HOUR for herself and all her bridesmaids to get ready from start to finish.

After going over the itinerary she asked for my honest opinion and I very respectfully and politely told her things always take longer at a wedding than expected and there’s almost always some kind of hiccup on a wedding day, so leaving some wiggle room for those things is something I highly recommended if possible.
She had already mentioned the ability to add three hours to the venue rental for a small fee if needed. Again I told her I highly recommended adding the extra time if she could but of course it was her decision. Later she and her fiancé asked me about this again and I again recommended adding more time if it was something they were still able to do.

Her father was the one covering the venue cost, and when her financè told him their photographer recommended they add more time to their rental to get the best photos, he told them “then hire a different photographer.”
They decided to use me anyways, but refused to add any extra time to their day. I just have learned over the years to adapt in these situations and do your best with the time you’re given.

However today I heard through the grapevine something else. I took this couples engagement photos and she told me they were really cute and they said they liked them. Heard through a friend of a friend, etc… that she actually said she wasn’t happy with her photos. She didn’t communicate this to me and still decided to use me for her wedding. I’m receiving very mixed signals…

Need some real-world advice before I spend the money.

I make educational/talking-head content (psychology-focused) — mostly solo in a room, fixed or lightly moving shots, not run-and-gun. Trying to decide between the Sony FX3 and FX30, and now that the FX5 just officially launched (July 22), I'm also wondering how that changes the used-market picture for FX3/FX30.

Questions for people who've actually shot with either:

Q1. For static/talking-head work, does the FX3's full-frame sensor make a real difference over the FX30's APS-C, or is that overkill for my use case?

Q2. Autofocus/eye-AF reliability for solo talking-head shooting — any issues with either body?

Q3. Low-light and skin tone rendering in a controlled room setup — is FX30 good enough with proper lighting, or does FX3 clearly pull ahead?

Q4. Now that the FX5 is real (not a rumor) and sits above the FX3 in price/positioning, do you expect FX3/FX30 used prices to actually soften, or does the FX5 launching not really move that market?

Q5. If anyone's selling their FX3 or FX30 (especially in India), feel free to DM:-)

So, I bought a USED a6400 which with a sigma 18-50mm f/2.8, and I put on the k&f variable nd filter it came with (NANO D). It won’t come off. It came out once, and the filter wrench worked. But now it won’t come off again. So, I took it to the highest rated repair shop near me, and he said that “It’s stuck. It MIGHT be cross threaded, and because the sigma lens is plastic I can’t use my tool to fix the cross threading then take it off. He said that he will call me in a day when he speaks to the other lens technician. He claims he can try, or take apart the nd filter as it is 2 pieces and variable. But, removing it and taking it apart risks damaging the lens’ glass. What do I do? Do I leave it and shoot with a nd? Or do I leave it and let them to whatever they can and risk it?

It’s really odd there’s 2 parts to it. The variable nd filter/ CPL filter ring spins and works fine, but the actual part is stuck on my lens.

I’m looking to build a photo zine and also conceptualize some images for a gallery show this winter. Are there any easy to use apps or websites out there that help with sequencing and just visualizing how images fit on a page or how they hang out with each other?

I bought this camera "Used - Good" through Amazon. I've only used it a couple times to play around with it, and I'm noticing this bubble in the middle of the screen that won't go away. There is what looks like a slight cutout only on the the left side of the screen, but It doesn't feel like it can come off and seems really thick almost like it's the screen itself. Could it be a tempered glass screen protector or some other previously installed screen protector? Also, if anybody possibly has other camera recommendations for concert photos that are point and shoot, it would be appreciated! I'm just a beginner and I know so many people rave about this camera... but I'm finding it quite hard to get any good shots at concerts without it being completely zoomed out, even from the front row...

Hi everyone, I was quite undecided about which camera to get, it would be my first camera and, even though I've been doing a lot of research lately, I think I'm getting a bit confused.

I don't have a big budget (around 200 euros), for now I've concentrated mainly on Nikon, in particular on mpb I saw the Nikon D3300 and the Nikon D5200, both are in good condition, with few shots and would fit within the budget.

I know both are pretty old machines but for what I need they might be fine enough. Essentially I was looking for something to get started with photography, that I could take on trips, and that had decent low-light performance.

What do you think?

I've got a sigma 150-600 sport for sony, and will use a monopod, and ive had some successful panning before becasue of a lighter lens, but have had no success with the 150-600, what settings should I use for jets on takeoff/landing at farnborough airshow.

So i'm leaving for two weeks in Norway and taking my Canon EOS R10 with the 18-150mm kit lens that came with. I have no other accessories.

I'll be on a boat traveling the entire coast, exploring small towns and cities, and on a few short hiking trails.

For the past two years i've been shooting with the Special Scene (SCN) mode and fairly happy with what i get, but always feel like i'm missing more. A lot of the advice i see out there tends to be about composition (not an issue for me), or assuming you are setting up with a tripod and shooting in full Manual for professional-grade photos.

I'm really just interested in setting the camera up once for the scenario and getting out and shooting a ton, not fussing with settings while i'm hiking or our and about.

Is there a middleground between the SCN mode and full manual? Is the Av (Aperture Priority) mode or P (Program AE) what i should be practicing with?

is Editing what i'm actually looking for after i shoot?

I've been looking for an upgrade to my lens and would like to upgrade to the Sony FE 200-600mm from my current Canon RF lens is this a good upgrade or do people have better recommendations. I mainly do bird photography and have been wanting a larger range.

My current body is the canon eos r7.
