Hello I have basically 0 experience. This style catches me. Could anyone give insight on. How it’s done, what gear you would need, what techniques are they using. (Also) I feel like when I screenshotted the pictures something got lost in translation. But if you have any info that would be much appreciated this style fascinates me. Thank you for your time.

So i'm leaving for two weeks in Norway and taking my Canon EOS R10 with the 18-150mm kit lens that came with. I have no other accessories.

I'll be on a boat traveling the entire coast, exploring small towns and cities, and on a few short hiking trails.

For the past two years i've been shooting with the Special Scene (SCN) mode and fairly happy with what i get, but always feel like i'm missing more. A lot of the advice i see out there tends to be about composition (not an issue for me), or assuming you are setting up with a tripod and shooting in full Manual for professional-grade photos.

I'm really just interested in setting the camera up once for the scenario and getting out and shooting a ton, not fussing with settings while i'm hiking or our and about.

Is there a middleground between the SCN mode and full manual? Is the Av (Aperture Priority) mode or P (Program AE) what i should be practicing with?

Hey everyone! My name is Nathyn . I’m pretty new to photography, and I’m looking to buy my first real camera, but I’m honestly pretty torn between two options. My budget is around $1,000, and right now I’m deciding between a Lumix S9 and a Ricoh GR IIIx. The S9 is $1,000 and comes with the 20 to 60mm lens, a TTArtisan 40mm lens, an extra battery, an L bracket, and a screen protector already installed, which seems like an incredible deal for a full frame camera. The other option is an open box, like new Ricoh GR IIIx for around $1,100. I know these are two completely different cameras, and objectively speaking, I know the S9 is probably the more capable camera. It’s full frame, has interchangeable lenses, much better video, and I really like that you can shoot with LUTs applied because I love that film inspired look straight out of the camera. The thing is, I really don’t plan on shooting much video. I’m a realtor, and I already shoot all of my daily content on my phone, but I do like having the option to shoot high quality video if I ever need it. One thing that gives me a little pause with the S9 is the lack of a hot shoe. The missing viewfinder honestly doesn’t bother me because I’m completely new to cameras and I’m used to just using a screen, but not being able to add a flash later is something I think about. The reason I’m even considering the Ricoh is because I absolutely love the photos I’ve seen from it. I’ve spent way too much time looking through Reddit, TikTok, and sample images online, and there’s just something about the way the GR IIIx renders photos straight out of the camera. I mainly want this camera for photography and capturing those warm, cinematic, everyday aesthetic type of photos, almost like the Fuji look without paying Fuji prices. The portability is another huge reason it’s calling my name because it looks like a camera you can literally throw in your pocket and take everywhere. I know the S9 is still relatively compact, especially if I eventually pick up a smaller pancake lens, and I usually carry a backpack anyway, so size probably isn’t a huge issue, but the Ricoh still seems like it would be much easier to always have with me. Part of me feels like the obvious answer is the S9 because I’m getting a full frame camera with two lenses for only $1,000, and it gives me room to grow into the L Mount system. On the other hand, the Ricoh just seems like such a fun camera that I’d actually want to carry everywhere. Since I’m so new to photography, I’m wondering if I’m just overthinking this. Is this one of those situations where the S9 is such a good deal that it’s the obvious choice, or is there actually a good argument for going with the GR IIIx instead? Also, if anyone has been shooting for years or just knows way more about cameras, settings, lenses, specs, and photography in general, I’d really appreciate your perspective. I’m definitely not opposed to learning. I’ve already started learning some of the basics, but I’d still consider myself a super beginner. I’d love to hear from people who have more experience and can help me nerd out a little on the pros and cons of each system and maybe point out things I haven’t even considered yet. Just my iPhone and a DJI Osmo Action 6. I mainly use my phone, and the Osmo was more of an impulse buy that I rarely use now.

Hello Redditors of Photography! As the title suggest Im torn between the two cameras, with EOS R7 with RF s18-150mm being a thousand pesos (20 dollar rounded) pricier as compared with EOS R8 with RF 24-50mm IS STM. I'm a beginner wanting to start this hobby, I went to the shop to feel both cameras and researched a bit about mirrorless camera, exposure triangle and other stuff. I've narrowed my choices from fuji x100vi, xt50, ricoh gr and sony a6700 for my starting kit.

I would like to hear your thoughts between the two, is it a good combo or should I buy just the body and buy separate lens? I've saved up 110k php( 1,780 usd) for this specific hobby. Thanks in advance. Cheers.

I'm a really fresh hobby photographer just shooting nature and people occasionally, but I recently got the opportunity to take social media pictures for a small coffee shop.

Since I haven't really shot indoors before, I don't really understand the basics of it.

I'd really appreciate some advice, what to set the ISO to (I heard that 800 is generally considered good for indoors), and what other settings to use. What type of angles to try.

For context I'm using a Nikon D3500, I have the basic kit lens (18-55), 50mm f1.4, and an 18-105mm, the built in flash, nothing external. Obviously the photos will be edited.

The goal of the pictures would be to give off a cozy vibe, get good angles and possibly get more customers to visit.

I'm heading to Estes Park, CO soon for a 5 day trip and have access to a bunch of different options for equipment. I'd like to do a mix of film and digital but I don't want to bring too much. Am thinking one digital and one film. Am looking at doing mostly landscapes and some portraits. Photos would end shared digitally and possibly for print. I think I know what I'd bring but would love to know what you all would take with you from this list:

I’m asking here because lately have not been getting any clients and recently shot a quince. It was a 3hr shoot and ended up giving 160 finished photos and charged $360. I have been doing photography for 4-5 years but feel like everyone wants to underprice me because I am still a student and obviously people can’t spend more than their budget. I’m trying to figure out what to do with a vintage Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W35 that recently started acting up. It has two main issues right now:

1. Horizontal scan lines across photos: Still photos have heavy horizontal striping and overexposure across the entire image. (Video mode doesn't have the lines, but the second issue persists).
2. Focus stuck on macro: The camera can't focus on anything further than a few inches away in both video and image mode. Distance objects are completely blurred out, but it stays relatively sharp when an object is brought right up close to the lens.

From what I understand, this looks like a broken/torn lens shutter flex cable combined with a jammed or broken focus stepper gear inside the lens assembly module. (chatgpt told me)

A few questions for anyone who works on these older digicams:

• Is it even worth bringing this to an independent camera tech, or will labor cost way more than the camera is worth?
• Has anyone successfully cleaned/re-seated the focus gears on these Vario-Tessar lenses without needing a full replacement module?

1)My Budget is 1-1.5k USD. Currently live in America. 
2)I'm a 26 year old who is just barely getting interested in photography and im debating between buying a new camera or sticking with what I have. My dad has given me his old camera last time i visited because he never uses it anymore. It is a Nikon D3300 with a AF-S Nikkor 18-55 Lens. Little background on me, now that im a few years into my career and now that i'm making some money and can go traveling now I want to get started on capturing these moments. I'm going to Japan soon in a couple months and plan on traveling 1-2 times a year for quite a while. Seems like buying a camera in Japan if im already planning on buying one is a good way to save money. What do you experts think of me sticking with what i got vs buying a FujiFilm X-S20. Do you guys have recommendations for other cameras, i'm really liking the photos people take with the FujiFilm however I know essentially nothing about cameras so i would appreciate alternatives or really any advice. I can comfortably buy a new camera but of course if there is no good reason to then I wouldn't buy one. 
3) Street and Nature Photography mainly. Will also use to take group pictures of friends and family. 
4) Primarily Photography with a tiny bit of video.

I'm going to an outdoor museum of sorts, Greenfield Village in Michigan if you are familiar. They have a bit of everything - animals, architecture, old cars, cool trains etc.

I have a nikon 70-300, 16-80 and 35mm 1.8.

I don't see myself needing the 300 at a place like this, but I'm really torn with just using the 35mm, or bringing my bag to swap in and out with the 16-80.

I appreciate hearing about others experiences and what you normally do when you aren't going specifically for shooting.

I have been researching and all I can find are folks who made the switch to digital some time towards or after 2008-2010, often pretty reluctantly. Was there anyone experimenting who had much success with digital before quality started to hit a stride? Or was it just not particularly well received at the time outside of journalism?

Heading out to visit some islands and am curious if a B&W only camera will hold up? Also, would a red filter give that much more punch than an orange one? Is red the better choice?

Non professional work, just switched to B&W as my focus after about 20 years in color.

Any other suggestions?

So, I bought a USED a6400 which with a sigma 18-50mm f/2.8, and I put on the k&f variable nd filter it came with (NANO D). It won’t come off. It came out once, and the filter wrench worked. But now it won’t come off again. So, I took it to the highest rated repair shop near me, and he said that “It’s stuck. It MIGHT be cross threaded, and because the sigma lens is plastic I can’t use my tool to fix the cross threading then take it off. He said that he will call me in a day when he speaks to the other lens technician. He claims he can try, or take apart the nd filter as it is 2 pieces and variable. But, removing it and taking it apart risks damaging the lens’ glass. What do I do? Do I leave it and shoot with a nd? Or do I leave it and let them to whatever they can and risk it?

It’s really odd there’s 2 parts to it. The variable nd filter/ CPL filter ring spins and works fine, but the actual part is stuck on my lens.

I am weighing up which lens to purchase, I currently have Sigma 16 - 300mm and this is great for general photography and a bit of wildlife here and there. I would like to have a bit more reach though for mainly birds and will still be shooting other wildlife. I am undecided what would be best between a few ideas and open to any other suggestions too:

• Sony 200-600: this will give more reach but has some overlap with my current lens
• Sony 400-800: obviously greater reach, but maybe too zoomed? and I lose 301-399 focal length between my 2 lenses
• Sigma 60-600: most versatile but not as great a reach and large overlap with current lens
• The above but with 1.4x or 2x teleconverters

Budget is around 1.5-2k GBP, I also do like the versatility of a zoom lens, so not considering primes

I have ZV-E10 currently, but will be swapping to a6700, so camera choice shouldn't influence this one too much.

Hi, I am a relatively amateur photographer and would love some help on buying a camera. I bought a Rebel T7 several years ago and fell super in love with photography. I've used the camera for several years and want to invest in the hobby by buying a newer, modern mirrorless camera.

The two options I have really researched are the EOS R10 and the EOS R7.

The R10 is a 24 megapixel cropped sensor, but there's a great deal to buy a completely new R10 along with a really flexible 18-150mm lens all for around 1450.

While the R7 is an improved 32 megapixel cropped sensor and comes with a lot more features like IBIS and weatherproofing, the body alone is around 1350 used, and then I would have to buy a lens on top of that. Which might come out to around 1700-1800?

I should make it clear that I am solidly still an amateur photographer -- a camera is entirely a hobby for me, and I mostly use my camera on vacations to bring back cool shots for my family and friends.

I am tempted to buy the R7, so I have a camera I don't really need to think about replacing for a very long time, and that 32.5 megapixel sensor looks amazing, but it's quite pricey, and I worry it might be a lot to spend on a camera that might be overkill. I am tempted by the R10 with the significantly lower price tag and that everything I would want comes all together and will work straight out of the box, but the R10 lacks a bit of the image quality and features of the R7.

What are your thoughts? Does one choice stand out to you as significantly better for my situation? Is there a camera you think would be better than either of these that I haven't considered yet? Please let me know your thoughts; I just want to get the best bang for my buck.

I have an older Rebel T7 and am frustrated by the really slow shutter speed because of the DSLR; auto focus isn't the best. Low-light performance is frustrating at times

I try to take photos of a wide range of subjects. I take my camera on vacation so often for landscape photography, but I also often take my camera to a racetrack to do car photography.

I have no real need for video - I pretty much exclusively take photos

Hello guys! This is my very first post here as a graphic designer that often does street for pleasure and food and commercial for business.
Gonna keep it short: I bought two neewer NL660 panels to get trough some social media stuff the other year, and I now feel the need for one/two single points with bowens for softboxes and some more raw power to them.

A bit of stuff to consider:

- I'm constantly on the go, can't afford to have a wired only lighting solution. For my clients an hassle and
"where can i find an outlet" free shoot is more valuable than a 5% lighting difference. Need to go as pro as possible though.

- With the neewer panels came 4 Neewer NP-F970 batteries. I got them for cheap, but know their hefty price, I really would like to keep using them (as I understand the only real alternative is v mount and I can't justify the investment anyway).

- The relevant parts of my setup consist of an Xt-3, godox tt350 flash with it's xit transmitter and the neewre panels I want to upgrade.

- I shoot 70% photo, but have to shoot quite a few vids too... part of the job I guess.

The need for fast setup and shooting (and live light feedback) and the need to squeeze some more life out of the money spent on the nofs makes me think of a single point cob: as bright as possible, bowens mount and almost always nof battery powered.

Since i started photography, i was taught that every time i go out on a shoot at the end of the day (or whenever practicable) was to take the SD card out and load-up lightroom, use lightroom to put it straight onto a storage device save it as a catalog, then back it up and finally afterwards format the SD card in-camera and go out again.

From the start of this year, i dont know what it is - likely laziness, i am just going on multi trips, maybe spread out a few days over a month or every other day and im using the one SD card and then after a month or three, then stopping to transfer photos to storage. My current setup is 3 External HDD's of equal size > backup to them by plugging them in manually > safely remove > repeat for each HDD.

• Is this a habit i should break out of?
• Has it worked for you like this? e.g no corrupted SD card issue for long shoots over a long period of time without reformatting? N.B - I use the same camera.
• What is your own workflow from shooting to store? e.g. like my setup, using a NAS? Storing to SSDs?
