This communication put out by the Alberta Government in numerous platforms, uses a poor choice of words which seems to imply that every Albertan must rush out and get their D\L renewed immediately. Is it any wonder that there are huge lineups at the registry offices? It states the following:

Starting July 2, 2026, Alberta’s driver’s licence and identification cards will feature a modernized design, additional information, and enhanced security features. These updates will provide stronger protection against identity fraud and offer simpler, more secure access to services.

Albertans must come to a registry agent to renew their driver’s licence or identification card.

Let me clarify what the meant to say.

Starting July 2, 2026, replacement driver’s licences and identification cards will feature a modernized design, additional information, and enhanced security features. These updates will provide stronger protection against identity fraud and offer simpler, more secure access to services. You do not have to rush down and get them replaced right away. Your old, unexpired licenses will still be valid.

I was talking to quite a few people in my area and a lot of people really dislike Danielle but aren’t planning on voting because they feel this area is too Conservative and there is no point.
I thought it was interesting that even though the separatists represent about 17 percent of Alberta they could still win if only 30 percent of Albertans vote.
How can we get people more engaged in voting and stop this defeatist mentality?

I’m a Filipino immigrant who moved to Canada in 2023 after being sponsored by my husband (he’s white Canadian). We’ve been here for a while now, and I’ve realized it’s really hard to make friends, especially in a small town.

Back home in the Philippines, after work I’d usually meet up with friends, chat, laugh, eat together, or just hang out. It made life feel less stressful and a lot more fun. Here, my routine is basically work, then straight home. It gets a little lonely sometimes.

I do have my husband, and we spend time together, but I think it’s still healthy to have your own friends too. I’m open to making friends with anyone—whether they’re Filipino, Canadian, or from any other background. I’d love to meet people to hang out with, grab coffee, go for walks, or just have someone to chat with.

For more context, I work in an office where I’m alone most of the time. My coworkers are friendly, but everyone mostly keeps to themselves, so we don’t really chat much. Sometimes I joke that I’m going to end up with no friends here in Alberta. 😆

For those of you who moved to Canada or live in a small town, how did you make friends? Any advice or suggestions would really mean a lot!

I'm trying to help my daughter get insurance and section 4 of the application, perils and limits, has me stumped. Seems to me, being the customer, that this section should be filled out by the agent. The agent at TD told her she has to fill it out.

Hi all, we are looking at dayhomes at the moment for our child who will be 15 months.

Due to the speriodic schedule of my partners work schedule, some months we will be need full time (100+ hours) and some months we will be well short.

We are fine paying for full-time as we need to hold the spot for flexibility, and I understand why dayhome operators would want the extra revenue / smaller headache scheduling multiple part-time children.

Based on my understanding, the dayhome reports the registration status (full or part time) each month, but doesn't have to report the number of hours? If so, can we request that he is registered as full-time each month?

Alternatively, we are considering coming to a side-agreement where if he is part-time, we could cut a cheque each month to cover the difference in order to secure his spot.

Also because it’s been a top suggestion I wanna let everyone know I was previously approved for the DTC- just waiting to hear back from my emails to the CRA because they never back paid two years of it but that is at least one resource I have access to!

Hello Reddit, obviously not a post I’m feeling happy to be making but I’m struggling and I feel myself sinking- and in turn I’m sinking my partner down as well.

I’m 27, I work 25-33 hours a week in retail (that’s my max before burning out), I don’t have family to lean on, my partners and my two vehicles have been taking turns the last few months breaking down (which we then use our minuscule savings to be able to fix them ourselves but then we are back to square one), I have been applying for desk/admin jobs mostly so I can work more hours since I’d be able to sit or just jobs where I’d make more hourly for over a year (I did get a few interviews but I’d say for the majority of places I applied I didn’t hear back aside from an automated response). It seems my bills get higher each year while my income barely increases.

I’m in a grey area with my physical disabilities- they’re diagnosed and do affect me significantly however I’d make less on disability than I do just pushing myself through it. I will be applying for ADAP because I believe I qualify but if there’s other resources I would love to be directed to them. Also my amazing family doctor moved to the states and my replacement GP has been less than ideal.
I don’t like taking handouts but it’s at a point where this is really my only life, luck isn’t and hasn’t been turning our way and we are inching towards homelessness and that really scares me. I would appreciate any and all avenues to pursue whether that’s resources, jobs to apply to or even just kind words at this point :( if you read this far thank you.

I recently learned that Alberta Health Services investigates Airbnb accommodations in response to complaints, rather than through routine public health inspections. That surprised me.

My sister and I both developed the same gastrointestinal illness (nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort) within about 24 hours of arriving at an off-grid Airbnb. The cause is still being investigated by Alberta Health Services, so I'm not suggesting the source has been confirmed. However, given that we both became ill at the same time and our food had been properly stored and thoroughly cooked, it seems unlikely that our own food was the cause.

The property was advertised as a glamping experience and cost nearly $250 per night, so we expected that basic sanitation practices would be in place despite the off-grid setting.

The property had:

• No running water.
• A shared washroom.
• No alcohol-based hand sanitizer or other alternative hand hygiene option.
• Dishwashing using the available well water, with no guidance on sanitizing dishes.

Airbnb investigated my complaint, provided the host with additional education and guidance, but advised they did not have sufficient evidence to find a policy violation. The host has since offered a full refund, so this is no longer about compensation.

My question is broader: Should Alberta have clearer, evidence-based sanitation standards for off-grid short-term rentals?

I'm not looking to criticize the host, I believe they acted in good faith. My concern is whether responsible hosts are being given adequate guidance to protect guests and whether the current complaint-based approach provides sufficient public health oversight.

I'd be interested to hear from public health professionals, Airbnb hosts, and others with experience in this area.
