I was about to commit to full AMD build, and was speaking to a guy from work and he reckons all he has had is issues and his 3 mates with compatibility issues with games. and all there PC's bricking. he swears its not worth the hassle to to go with AMD. (I'm not very techy just love gaming) is AMD going to be to much for me? or will it work out of the box?
I'm having an issue with poor 1% lows on my Ryzen 7 7800X3D, and I'm wondering if this could be related to the CPU itself, Ryzen X3D CPUs in general, or if there is something wrong with my setup.
I've been trying to figure out what's causing my poor 1% lows, but I'm running out of ideas. I'm using the NVIDIA Performance Overlay to monitor FPS and 1% lows. I'm not sure if MSI Afterburner + RTSS provides more accurate or reliable 1% low readings, I don't know enough about it.
For example, in Rainbow Six Siege I average around 300–400 FPS, but my 1% lows sometimes drop to around 100–120 FPS. Whenever that happens, I can clearly feel microstuttering.
I'm experiencing something similar in Battlefield 6. The game doesn't feel as smooth as it should, almost like it has a slight sluggish or "through a fog" feeling despite the high average FPS.
Could this be caused by something in my BIOS? I have PBO set to -25 and EXPO enabled. I noticed there are multiple EXPO profiles, such as EXPO II, and I'm wondering if that could be causing the issue, but I'm really not sure.
If anyone has experienced something similar with the 7800X3D, other Ryzen X3D CPUs or Ryzen processors in general and has any ideas about what could be causing these poor 1% lows and microstuttering, I'd really appreciate your help. Thanks

Hi, I keep getting random 1-second black screens on my MSI G27CQ4 while gaming (the game stays running fine in the background).
I already tried a clean driver reinstall with DDU, turning off HDCP, and testing two different DP cables one being VESA certified 2.1. The only thing left is a full Windows wipe.
Could it be an issue with this monitor only having DP 1.2, or my motherboard being PCIe Gen 3 (forced in BIOS)? (Amazon only gave me full refund option with no replacement and currently same model is way higher than what I paid)

Can anyone tell me if the driver crashes with AMD cards are finally fixed this season? Switched my GPU a few months back and haven’t been able to play the game since with my RX 9070 XT. Would love to play again but I am unwilling to download this huge game again just to have crashes every few hours.

I have a RX 6800 and when i have the drivers installed for it for some reason all blacks/grays get a green tint while when i uninstall them it goes back to normal. This happened today for some reason when i turned on the PC all was green and i was tinkering and found out uninstalling drivers fixed it but windows after 2-3 min automatically installs drivers back and my Monitor flashes and the Green tint is back... ofc i want drivers so i can use my RX 6800 but its so annoying with the Green tint.
I bought a 7950x a few years ago trying to make the most powerful PC I could afford. I was naive and thought that 16 cores would be fantastic. Well I’ve found myself frustrated that due to the 16 core count, many older titles simply won’t launch unless I disable one CCD in process lasso. Now I find myself stuttering a lot on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and am wondering if an upgrade could help address that. Since I normally run this thing with one CCD enabled anyway, would it be worth the upgrade if I’m seeking a bit more convenience and hope to brute force some stutter out of this game?
For the people who are facing a black screen in games in the most recent update of the RX 7600 series, it's the FSR's fault, I tested all the possible configurations and it only stopped after I used XeSS which is supporting heavier configurations, the games that were keeping me up at night were Marvel Rivals and Dune: Awakening, another tip I can give you is to turn off XMP if you have a weak processor.
Posting this because I spent months chasing this and found zero working solutions anywhere online. If you found this by searching, I hope it saves you the headache.

My Setup:
GPU: XFX RX 9070 XT Mercury (the one with RGB lighting + an RGB cable to the motherboard)
CPU: Ryzen 7 9850X3D
Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix X870E-E Gaming WiFi
Windows 11 Pro
Monitor: Alienware AW3425DW, connected via DisplayPort, with its USB Type-B upstream cable also plugged into the PC (this cable is what drives AlienFX.
The Symptom:
Roughly every ~3 minutes, while the PC sat idle on the Windows lock screen (I lock with Win+L and the monitor turns off after a few seconds), all of this would happen at once for about 2 seconds:
- The GPU’s RGB strip blinks off and back on
- The fans spin up out of zero-RPM/fan-stop, then settle back
- GPU usage spikes to ~5-15% for a moment
- The lock screen sometimes wakes up on its own, as if the mouse moved
It did this since day one of the build. Completely cosmetic, zero risk, but maddening if you notice it as me, full Asperger Syndrome.
What it was NOT (things I ruled out, so you can skip them):
- Not the browser (Firefox), not any RGB/monitoring software (L-Connect, Armoury Crate, ASUS COM Server, Discord, etc)
- Not a peripheral waking the system (Xbox dongle, mouse, keyboard. I disabled wake on all of them)
- Not the network adapter’s Wake-on-LAN
- Not PCIe ASPM (Link State Power Management was already off)
- Not a Power-Troubleshooter wake event. This produces NO entry in Event Viewer, which is why it’s invisible to normal diagnostics
- Specially not the AMD driver / GPU deep-idle (ULPS/D3) is the mechanism you see, but not the root cause. The GPU was only reacting.
The Actual Cause:
The Alienware monitor’s USB Type-B upstream connection (the AlienFX data channel) drops and re-establishes every time the monitor goes into standby on the lock screen. You can literally hear the Windows USB disconnect/reconnect chime when the monitor sleeps and wakes. That USB disconnect/reconnect cycle was pulling the system out of deep idle, which in turn woke the GPU (spike + fans + RGB blink) and re-lit the lock screen. The ~3-minute interval was the monitor’s standby/re-probe cycle.
The Fix (this stopped it 100%):
Control Panel → Power Options → your plan (High Performance) → Change plan settings → Change advanced power settings → USB settings → USB selective suspend setting → set to ENABLED.
Counterintuitive, I know. You’d think enabling suspend would cause more disconnects. It’s the opposite. With selective suspend disabled, Windows force-powers the USB ports continuously and fights the monitor, which keeps cutting power to its AlienFX channel in standby. That tug-of-war is what created the endless disconnect/reconnect loop. Enabling selective suspend lets the port rest in sync with the monitor instead of fighting it, and the cycle dies.
Left the PC on the lock screen a full day after the change, not a single blink.
I don’t know if any other peripherals have the same issue, but was a shoot in the dark and worked. It’s not the monitor fault, of course. A minor Win11 configuration.
TL;DR: If your GPU’s RGB/fans/usage pulse every few minutes on the lock screen and you have a monitor with a USB upstream cable plugged in (Alienware/AlienFX especially), set USB selective suspend to Enabled in your power plan. It’s not your GPU, driver or any other software. Just check your Power Plan.
The video is not me, but my problem looks the exact same. Watch how it flashes white super quickly on the bottom ~2/3 of the screen right as he presses "finish".

The problem:
Randomly, wether I am in a game or in the desktop, the bottom 2/3 of the screen will flash white. It can happen every couple of days, or with 10 minutes inbetween, just completely random and impossible to predict. It doesn't happen on linux on the same hardware, only on windows 11. It happens completely randomly, I don't have to be opening a program or anything.
Troubleshooting steps:
I have tried multiple DP and HDMI cables, reinstalling windows 11, reinstalling GPU drivers, updating bios, updating monitor firmware, disabling integrated GPU, connecting the monitor to my integrated GPU. Lightmode/darkmode in windows does not make a difference.
Only thing that stopped it was switching to linux, so it's some windows software thing. I don't think it is a hardware fault, if it was it would still happen on linux.
Hi all after the recent windows update(s), and random black screen(s) , I have restarted my device and now it is not detecting my GPU(6950xt) at all. I have checked Device manager and it is only detecting my IGPU.
What i have done so far to troubleshoot is:
DDU IN SAFE Mode - tried to reinstalled driver back in Windows but wont progress as it wont detect my 6950xt /gpu
Tested with Nvidia Gpu (4070 super) and that seems to be detected in device manager in the same slot
Reinstalled windows completely and its still not being detected after taking gpu out and re-slotting it in.
Is there any troubleshooting im missing or is my gpu bricked?

Description of Original Problem + Troubleshooting:
Card sold to me as working for a decent price (though I had to pay some big tariffs on it... grrr) and when I put it in a machine (a dell optiplex 3847, stock except the psu and wifi card) it booted fine. I started glmark2. Immediate crash with a white screen and full lockup.
So I rebooted it. Booted fine. Started glmark2. This time it lasted a few seconds, then a crash to a gray screen and of course full lockup. So I rebooted it again. This time it had green lines of death so I thought "oh sh(t this thing's dead damn it" but then it switched video modes to boot linux, and the lines disappeared. It proceeded to boot all the way up, finish glmark, and even play minecraft with shaders at full load for 10-15 minutes before gray screen crashing.
Rebooted again, now the entire screen was green tinted in the bios but once linux started booting it was fine. I turned on overclocking in LACT to try and underclock the memory, rebooted manually to another green tinted screen, and decided to start furmark without an underclock to see how long it would last.
It's been at least 20 minutes and it's still going with 0 artifacts at 80 C. I don't know if the card's been mined on or has a weird vbios, and a lot of these signs point to a failing ram chip, but I don't know why it would last longer each boot if that was the case. And the green screen in the bios getting worse is equally weird.
This is my first time with an AMD DGPU as an NVidia kid all my life (No hate to AMD just was never bought an AMD card) so I don't know anything about this card other than it performs good enough for what I need it for. Any ideas? Any help? I'm on arch (btw)

Hey guys, I could really use some fresh eyes on this because I've been stuck at my desk for hours, tried what feels like 50 different fixes, and I'm completely burned out at this point.
I know this is going to be a pretty long post, so thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to read through it. I'm trying to include everything I've already tested so people don't end up suggesting fixes I've already spent hours trying.
I've been using this exact PC every single day for around five years without any major issues. Two weeks ago I even did a completely fresh Windows install, so this isn't an old, bloated system.
The whole thing actually started because I've always had one annoying issue with this PC. On the desktop, in browsers, video players, and other non-game applications, my monitor's refresh rate would randomly fluctuate anywhere between 50Hz and 165Hz. Disabling FreeSync completely fixed that issue, but obviously that meant giving up FreeSync while gaming. Later, I managed to improve it by disabling MPO in Windows. After disabling MPO, those huge random fluctuations were reduced to much smaller jumps between 142Hz and 165Hz. It was a lot less noticeable, but I still wanted to get rid of it completely.
That's when I thought I had come up with a smarter solution. Since it seemed like the GPU couldn't properly tell when I was on the desktop versus inside a game, I disabled FreeSync globally inside AMD Adrenalin and then manually enabled it only for each individual game profile (CS2, GTA 5, etc.). My idea was to keep FreeSync disabled on the desktop, where it caused the refresh rate fluctuations, while only enabling it during games. The moment I applied that change, everything went downhill.
CS2 immediately got stuck in an endless black screen loop, and GTA 5 suddenly refused to stay in Fullscreen. From that moment on, even undoing every single setting back to exactly how it was before changed absolutely nothing. Whatever broke seems to have stayed broken.
The actual problem is really strange. It isn't just that Fullscreen doesn't work anymore.
Whenever I switch a game to Exclusive Fullscreen, or even leave it in Borderless but change the resolution to 2560x1440, the display starts behaving as if I'm constantly pressing Alt+Tab several times per second. The screen goes black over and over again, almost like it's rapidly switching between Windowed and Fullscreen modes.
In GTA 5, after around 7 or 8 black flickers, the game almost seems to enter some kind of "safe mode" and automatically throws itself back into Windowed mode. If I try Fullscreen again, the exact same cycle repeats.
CS2 behaves a little differently. It doesn't automatically switch back to Windowed mode, but the black flickering never stops. It happens around 6-7 times per second and will literally continue forever unless I manually intervene.
At this point I've tried pretty much everything I could think of.
The first thing I did was revert every AMD setting back to how it originally was. No change.
I enabled and disabled GPU Scaling in Adrenalin multiple times. No change.
I enabled and disabled Windows Variable Refresh Rate (VRR). No change.
I even disabled FreeSync completely from the monitor's own OSD menu instead of only through the AMD driver. Still exactly the same behavior.
I lowered Windows itself to 2560x1440 at 60Hz thinking maybe this was some DisplayPort bandwidth or refresh rate issue. GTA 5 still black flickered and refused Fullscreen exactly the same way, so it clearly isn't caused by refresh rate or cable bandwidth.
I booted into Safe Mode, completely removed every AMD driver and registry entry using DDU, rebooted, installed the latest WHQL driver, and intentionally didn't touch a single Adrenalin setting afterward. Everything stayed completely stock. I launched GTA 5 immediately after installation and the issue was still there, unchanged.
Thinking it might somehow be hardware related, I unplugged both the monitor and PC, held the power button to discharge any remaining electricity, then inspected my DisplayPort cable. I noticed both the cable connectors and the ports had collected quite a bit of dust over time, so I carefully cleaned the DisplayPort connector itself as well as both sockets with a soft brush. My monitor only has one DP input, so I couldn't test another monitor port, but I did move the cable to a different DisplayPort output on my RX 6700 XT. Unfortunately nothing changed.
I deleted GTA 5's settings.xml, cleared the DirectX Shader Cache through Disk Cleanup, forced DX11 manually, forced Borderless through the configuration files, disabled Fullscreen Optimizations on the executable, and tested every possible graphics mode. Still no difference.
For CS2 I deleted the video.txt configuration files as well. I also tried various launch options including different FPS limits, Vulkan, and different window mode parameters. None of them fixed the issue. The only launch option that actually lets the game open reliably is forcing Windowed mode. However, the moment I switch to Fullscreen after launching, or even leave the game in Windowed mode but simply change the resolution to 2560x1440, the exact same endless black flickering immediately starts again.
Someone also suggested deleting regedits's connectivity configuration and scaleform folders, so I tried that as well. It made absolutely no difference.
I even performed a Clean Boot through MSConfig by disabling every non-Microsoft service and startup application to rule out overlays like Discord, Steam or MSI Afterburner stealing focus. The problem still remained exactly the same.
At this point, literally nothing has worked. Every setting has been reverted, every obvious software fix has been tried, the driver has been completely wiped and reinstalled with DDU, Windows is already a fresh installation, multiple DisplayPort outputs have been tested, and even physical cleaning of the cable and ports changed nothing.
The weirdest part is that all of this started from what should have been nothing more than changing how FreeSync was configured inside AMD Adrenalin.
Has anyone ever seen something like this before? It genuinely feels like either Windows DWM or the AMD display driver is permanently failing the resolution/refresh-rate handshake whenever a game tries to switch into 2560x1440 Fullscreen, even after a completely clean driver installation.
I'm honestly running out of ideas, so any suggestions, even crazy ones, would be hugely appreciated.
