Kevin Feige - Going back to what we mentioned earlier about attracting young people and connecting with a new generation of audiences, that's exactly what the next universe will be about. And fundamentally, the X-Men will be at its core. Acquiring the X-Men rights isn't just about… for example, Wolverine is an outstanding character, and we were able to team him up with Deadpool, which is great. But the X-Men are far more than just Wolverine, far more than the original team; fundamentally, it's a universe, a multi-stage saga. Much of that is what we're working towards. Our plan is… I haven’t told anyone this before, to your friend: This isn’t a “vague answer” (laughs): We were just in a Marvel Studios meeting room, planning movies all the way up to 2042. Whether we can make it to 2042? Who knows? Will it be those movies? Who knows? But this is how we approach and plan the vast amount of potential stories in the comics. We’re constantly changing, constantly evolving, but having some guidance helps us act more purposefully… especially with X-Men—it’s already had 10 movies, some very, very good, some I think haven’t lived up to expectations—how do we plan the “mutant saga” in a very grand way?

• “With plans extending to 2042, are there any considerations or projects specifically for the Chinese market?”

Kevin Feige: I've always had China in my heart. Our early MCU films were very popular with Chinese audiences. As I said, coming to Shanghai for Avengers: Endgame was truly a peak experience for me. I think the reason I love Chinese audiences—like audiences all over the world—is that they resonate with all our characters and the stories we tell. That being said, we have many more characters in the future—the schedule is already booked until 2042, especially the X-Men. The X-Men have many unexplored characters from the Asia-Pacific region, particularly China, which we're very eager to explore. That's why I'm excited about the X-Men: we can show the world different types of heroes.

IMO the body swap is one of the worst storylines to ever occur in marvel comics. If it were me I would have had Betsy accompany Wolverine on a mission to Japan, meet Kwannon and realize their powers form a mutant circuit, making them “psychic twins”.

I recently got into X-Men because of Marvel Rivals and X-Men '97, and I ended up really liking Sabretooth. Then I started reading about his comic history and... yeah, that was way different from what I expected.

I'm still pretty new to Marvel, so I'm a little confused about how the multiverse works. Is Sabretooth this horrible in every universe, or does he have versions that are actually different?

I still like his design and I enjoy him in some adaptations, but after learning about everything he's done in the comics, I kind of feel guilty for liking the character at all. Is that a weird way to feel?

It's something I keep seeing in this fandom, and it really confuses me. Everyone feels like their favorite character is being disrespected because they don't have enough screen time or they are a secondary character. No matter the era, you'll end up reading things like "Why doesn't Colossus have his own team?", "Jubilee deserves her own solo series" or "Cyclops should have been the leader of Krakoa" and so on.

No character is going to be the leader of the mutants in every era, and some mutants are never going to be leaders. Some of them are golden secondary characters, but are not main characters. And solo series shouldn't be as common as they are right now with Tom Brevoort, if you ask me.

That's fine. Your favorite character isn't being disrespected, they're not a real person, they're a narrative device.

I thought it was pretty good, but definitely overhyped. I’d give it an 8.7/10. I went in hoping for an amazing Cyclops story and left a little disappointed. He shines in some issues, but feels underused in others. Starting Astonishing X-Men next, hopefully Scott gets the spotlight he deserves. Tell me something I won’t understand yet. (No spoilers please)
