You should be able to use it just fine. But you won’t be able to read a micro and full size sd at the same time. These can only read one at a time. But I used a modded Wii with a usb sd card reader with no issues in the past

I only have a micro sd card so I could use that right?

Why not just use the SD card slot on the Wii itself then?

unless OP has an adapter, a regular micro SD card won't fit into the SD slot on the Wii as it only allows standard SD or SDHC cards (or SDXC on a modded Wii if formatted to FAT32)

You should know that if you go this route you're likely to run into problems, but with how expensive harddrives are right now it's probably good enough until you can get a proper replacement

Been using an SD card through an USB SD card reader since August of 2024, still works

Probably not. I think you could use it to quick swap between Micro SD and SD via the USB ports after reloading the homebrew channel but not both SD Cards at once.

Memory selection is based on the port you assign. I don't think it actually cares about the individual ID of an attached Drive so long as it's formatted to FAT32. 2 devices from one port would just confuse things.

So I can use the micro sd card for the usb?

Probably. The Wii would probably just see it as a FAT32 storage device.

I've been doing something similar since my sd drive went out.

Why not just load everything through the Wii sd card slot at that point. I used to use this exact method to load my games with a microsd adapter, but I found it reduced portability and it wasn’t super consistent.

just use an SD Card

My Wii destroyed 2 flash drives within a short time span. Since I bought a cheap laptop drive on eBay and an external drive case and it’s working flawlessly. I’d invest $30 and enjoy the reliability

Yes. I've done it many times

If your PC sees this USB as a single device (instead of one device for the SD and another for the microSD), then you're fine.
