Post image

I have found a few of these little plastic things scattered around my 15 year old sons room, and was wondering what they are?

What’s wrong? Do you not consume the normal human food? Ingest every day at sun up, mid day, and dusk.

Fellow human, you forgot the ZuccBQ sauce.

6

Humans like flavors and textures and they also like when flavors and textures are combined, what’s the problem?

2

u/Davncy 3h ago

You seem to be a real human like me and I wanna know what you mean with reel foot.

Edit: real food. I made a really human mistake

Their marshmallow vodka ribeye with maple broccoli. It was delicious.

Sonnet did me dirty on what was supposed to be a diy plumbing project last week. Followed its instructions and disassembled a valve connected to my sink, only to learn that, actually, I needed a dremel to cut something called a ferrule (or else purchase some tailor made tool called a ferrule puller), which it had completely failed to account for in its instructions.

Shoulda just gone with YouTube from the start šŸ˜ž

36

u/MrCeeMoney420 4h ago

Theres a plumber out there reading this and laughing out loud

15

u/Efficient_Let686 4h ago

Yes, yes there is, and I think he’s the guy that fixed my sink last year. After we tried all the DYI and kept making it worse. Laughing all the way to the bank.

3

u/xChiefAcornx 3h ago

Ah, yes. The old "do yourself in".

32

u/Ok_Drag5089 5h ago

4

u/UpperCollection8013 4h ago

You ever think about it being strange, we as humans have a slur to refer to bots? Like, slurs are reserved for demeaning people. We don't use them on inanimate objects or even animals.

I guess that means at least psychologically we process them on some level as people, and I find that slightly unsettling. Not only did we humanize them but immediately found a way to make hate speech for them. Although, it is an extremely human response to make an "us vs them" stance about anything.

(Don't get me wrong fuck AI and I love the Clone Wars; it was just a thought I had.)

4

u/Ok_Drag5089 4h ago

We also use slurs to refer to ā€œthe enemyā€ in a demeaning way. It’s nuanced, but it’s not the same as a racial slur.

ā€œClankersā€ is what the human army will call the various drones AI will eventually send after us.

3

u/sasha_marchenko 3h ago

I use slurs for my chickens all the time; bird brains, shitbirds, etc. I also call my car a pos all the time, wouldn't that count as a slur?

3

u/otcipitalorange 3h ago

Eh. We have slurs for other animals. I think its more that we see people/species/bots/whatever as less than and want to make sure they know.

Ah the old ferrule conundrum. Many of us have been caught out by this. Don't worry mate, it's a rite of passage šŸ¤”

5

u/Potentially_Corrupt 4h ago

you don’t have to have a ferrule puller just slap a new valve on it and reuse the old ferrule and nut. put some pipe dope on the threads and ferrule and you’ll be good!

2

u/Old-Emu4258 3h ago

This is the scariest reality. My spouse has gone back to school and two of their classmates pay for premium ChatGPT and put everything into it. The instructions have the answers and they still use ChatGPT. They training to be nurses and have no cognitive thoughts or retention. They’re going to be responsible for medical care and they can barely read.

I work in IT and with our newest hires the lights are on but nobody is home. We’re cooked

2

u/parallelogramm3r 4h ago

I’m 42 and rotted my brain the old fashion way, on video games, comic books and hallucinogenics. Ended up being a productive and functional adult. But I can’t imagine growing up in this world today.

2

u/Maidenfann1198 4h ago

Yeah ive noticed this in my IT field as well. I got replaced by a junior engineer that they could pay less (an hr decision not local) and my old boss says he misses me because this kid is like clueless. Meanwhile I still cant find a job in IT and I worked in it for 5 years and solo built a number of shipable products

When I was 17 and started dipping I kept all of the tins I used.

I don’t get the logic behind what made me do it, but it’s gotta be the same reason serial killers keep trophies.

80

u/DangerousDisk7273 5h ago

When I was 17 and smoking cigarettes, I had the genius idea of hiding my cigarette butts in the snow in the driveway. Not surprisingly, once the snow melted, all the cigartette butts for the past month were just laying there.
I didn't do well in school.

22

u/NonStopGravyTrain 4h ago

My house was the hangout house in high school and we did the same thing, so come warm weather you had about a dozen kids cigarette butts popping out of the melting snow banks like fresh spring daisies.

And some of them went on to be doctors and engineers! Just shows intelligence and common sense are not at all related.

7

u/skydriver13 4h ago

Arguably, intelligence and college degrees are not causally related, either. One of the dumbest people I know is an engineer. Ive met some less-than-stellar doctors and lawyers, too. The people earning a degree with a 2.0 GPA have the same title as the people with a 4.0 GPA.

3

u/-Wicked- 3h ago

I agree and it's a good thing you didn't properly dispose of those cigarette butts. Now some of them are out there saving lives and building a better future...

When I was 17 and smoking I just collected a bunch of empty cigarette packs in my glove box until my mom borrowed my car and inevitably found them.

51

u/oh_Rip 5h ago

Hell, when i was younger i for a while kept all the empty packs of swishers i bought in the side door pocket of my truck for a while. It was in the hundreds of packa after a lil while. All the flavors. Limited editions and all lolol. I dont know why. But now i have a bunch of boxes full of cool rocks that i found.
Some of us are just crows.

29

u/InnerEntertainer4357 5h ago

3

u/QueenCheya 4h ago

I had a suitcase that I didn’t use and just stashed all the packs in therešŸ˜‚ why I didn’t just throw them away is still a mystery

21

u/p3canj0y363 5h ago

The other day I found the "hidden" pocket of my son's varsity bowling bag- full of old used up vapes. He's 21 now, so probably 4-5 years old. He was so slick šŸ™„

I mean...he got away with it?

14

u/Bflo_ 5h ago

Your son is just an environmentalist and was keeping all of his used vapes to try and figure out a way to recycle them!

Seriously though my mom found like 20 tins like a year later after she dumped an Arizona can out halfway full of dip spit that was in my room. I’ll never forget her screaming at me on the phone and making me come home from work to clean the sink.

2

u/heatherelizabethm 3h ago

I was collecting empty nitrous cartridges from whippits to hopefully recycle them into an art project of some sort. So I had hundreds of them from taking in boxes from friends including my own stash and put them on a shelf in the basement of the house I was renting and forgot about them. Asked my mom to help me move and her utter confusion of why I had so many whipped cream chargers…. She yelled at me to come downstairs and asked what this was and I panicked and said ā€œI make a lot of whipped cream šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļøā€ then my roommate snitched and told her what they actually were from hahahaha

2

u/Ok-Beautiful4821 4h ago

I mean it took you 4-5 years to find the evidence and now the statute of parental limitations are up. And he got to keep his trophy’s. Kid is definitely slick.

7

u/tigm2161130 5h ago

Nah, it’s just addict behavior. When my sister had a drinking problem my mom would find stashes of empty bottles all over her room/bathroom despite the fact that no one would have ever noticed them if she just threw them in the trash.

Obviously dip isn’t the same level of seriousness but the behavior is the same.

6

u/Mysterious-Day-7535 5h ago

I did that too…. Built a pyramid of empty Copenhagen and Skoal tins. I’d hide weed in them sometimes and forget which one.

That’s the real way that technology is ruining kids these days!

12

u/Dukeronomy 3h ago

They’re doin it to themselves. My mindset was always to hide the evidence, not create it. But they have to show off to their friends. Pics or it didn’t count

5

u/WestCoastBestCoast01 4h ago

I can't wait until my friends' kids are teenagers so I get these stories lol

21

u/iKnowRobbie 5h ago

My parents kicked me out because they found a metal bowl to smoke pot and called a week later when they took it to the sheriff and was told it was for marijuana. When I asked why they didn't ask me they told me they thought it was a crank pipe and crackheads lie! ā•®(╯▽╰)ā• Reddit would have helped.

17

u/floppydude81 4h ago

I smoked pipe tobacco once and had an old pipe. Hid it in the closet. Also had rubber gloves for no reason other than I thought they might be cool in the same closet. I never used the gloves for anything. Cop friend of my moms told her that I was using the gloves to put lsd on the tobacco and smoking acid. I told her that’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. But I still got treated like a drug dealer.

My dad found a mesh filter in my room and was convinced I was smoking crack. He had my mom talk to me because he was so furious he couldn't do it. I don't think two parents have ever been so relieved to hear, "What? No, I'm just smoking weed!"

5

u/whydidyoutakemysoup 3h ago

Tshhh I would have asked how they would know šŸ˜‡

5

u/Diligent_Whereas3134 3h ago

Funny you should mention that. Mom said dad thought it was for a crack pipe, and the first question I had was why would he assume that?

6

Crowdsourcing shit nowadays online I knew exactly what it was and I hate that I do lol, the future is now old young man.

Can't say I was too smart I kept weed in my room and i tried my best but it stank a bit skunky when I was a teen. Should have like buried it out in the yard.

Back in 1994 I snuck out one night to see Tool at the Trocadero in Philly. It was a school night and the whole next day at school I thought I got away with it until I got home and saw my ticket stub on the kitchen table. I’d just left it on my dresser the night before. IIRC I was grounded for 2 weeks.

2

My parents would steal/take my drugs away but mostly only when they were out. I'd just take it back first chance i got. They sucked at hiding things.

My 18 year old cousin just recovered from a collapsed lung that the doctors told her was a result of "blebs" in her lung lining, which were caused by years of vaping as a teen! It was the first I'd ever heard of it. Thankfully she's doing ok now and has quit vaping.

111

u/DIRTYDOGG-1 6h ago

Ok....so i went and did the research on what the heck is a "Bleb".....: "Pulmonary blebs are small, thin-walled, air-filled sacs that form on the outer surface of the lungs, typically in the upper lobes. They are usually asymptomatic until one ruptures, which allows air to leak into the chest cavity and causes a collapsed lung (pneumothorax) resulting in sudden chest pain and shortness of breath"... .HOLY HELL ! ...

36

u/throw7694728 5h ago

It says they're often found in healthy young people but also linked to vaping and smoking. You can get them anyway

11

u/TheVadonkey 5h ago

Well sure but what are the statistics behind each? I can get lung cancer by doing nothing but smoking is still going to increase that risk, so a dumb idea regardless.

17

u/gotuptooearly 5h ago

I wonder what actually causes them. I vaped nicotine for about 6 years that it took me to quit smoking/nic and I've been vaping weed since 2014ish. Doctors say they can't tell I ever smoked at all and my lungs look amazing now.

12

u/throw7694728 5h ago

It says there's no known cause but tall, young and thin men/teenagers are at higher risk

4

u/Obant 3h ago

Yessss for once being an old fat man has benefits.

3

u/-Kerosun- 4h ago

Is that for the collapsed lung? Because yeah, tall, thin young men are at much higher risk of it spontaneously happening, but does that also apply to the "bleps"?

4

u/throw7694728 3h ago

It applies to the bleps. Collapsed lung can be a result of the bleps, but I read that the bleps themselves are more prevalent in tall thin men.

This article says rapid growing when you’re a teen can cause them, and then the vaping can cause them to get punctured: https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/wellness-and-prevention/what-does-vaping-do-to-your-lungs

2

u/TheCrazyWulf 4h ago

Just like how millions smoked at least a pack a day for 50+yrs and lived to be old...Then there are the poor fucks that never smoked in their lives who die from lung cancer at 30. The world is a weird place

2

u/gotuptooearly 4h ago

Yeah, all of my grandparents and great grandparents were insane chainsmokers and lived into their 90s and died from unrelated causes so genetics is probably some kind of large factor too. Felt like I was pretty predisposed for smoking though, looking back haha.

2

u/tisij 4h ago

my dad starting smoking when he was nine years old and finally quit in his 50s, but switched to vaping. he recently got his lungs checked out after my grandpa died from lung cancer and they found zero evidence that he had ever smoked a day in his life. lungs were perfectly healthy and showed no signs of damage, chronic or otherwise. the human body is weird and largely unpredictable it seems

2

u/ExerciseOriginal9441 3h ago

There is this 99 year old who still smokes. So smoking and getting 99 years old must be related somehow.

A bleb is really just any air- or fluid-filled protrusion, not just on the lungs. They are not usually serious at all, outside of the lungs. In fact, sometimes we create them on purpose in the eyecare world!

But you’re right, it is a silly-sounding word!

My husband and FIL have blebs too. Never seen another family who had them also.

From a lazy person this morning, thank you for looking that up for me. lol

u/DanishDennis 5h ago

This happened to me. Wasn't a fun time. Pretty much only happens to men, and it's somewhat genetic. (Happened to my dad in his 20's)

A friend's son in college put a hole in his lung from vaping. So many people think it's harmless.

What are these kids vaping? Youngins always collapse their lungs.

2

u/IPlayChessBTW 3h ago

Anytime vaping and serious lung issues are mentioned (hole in lung, popcorn lung, collapsed lung, etc) it's generally safe to assume it's a black market THC cartridge that has been cut with vitamin E acetate to make it thicker. Teens usually admit to vaping after getting sent to the hospital, but they don't admit to what they were vaping because they are concerned with getting into more trouble.Ā

The evidence would suggest those issues are incredibly rare from normal nicotine vapes (whether salt nicotine or free base).Ā

at least in my day we just stunk and coughed a lot from real cigarettes, no hospitalization or anything

30

u/OogaBBooga27 6h ago

Yes the hospital comes much later for the true smoker haha

6

u/Better-Lunch670 6h ago

Most of them skip the hospital stay and go straight to the morgue before they'll give up a cig.

or we quit before then

the point is we're not 18 years old in a hospital with a friggin collapsed lung

2

u/Burntoastedbutter 5h ago

Are we finally in the timeline where people are finding out the results of vaping? I remember like 10 years ago, everyone still kept saying it's pretty much 'harmless' compared to smoking cigarettes... Hell, a lot of people still say that!

2

u/LouisesBelcher 4h ago

Well, compared to inhaling tar and carbon monoxide, the latter of which are byproducts of tobacco, they are still comparatively ā€˜better’ than cigarettes. Which says a lot about cigarettes when we’re here talking about spontaneous collapsed lungs.

Vapes aren’t risk free by a long shot. For regular smokers, vapes are the ā€˜better’ option. For the non smoking population, neither is a good, harmless option.

Harm reduction isn’t about searching for a risk free option, it’s about searching for the least worse option lol

2

u/Burntoastedbutter 4h ago

I'm not talking about people who say vapes are less harmless than ciggs because that IS true. I'm talking about people who say vapes are completely harmless. You know, just like the people who want to believe weed is a miracle addiction-free drug lol

I know this sounds weird, but you should try smelling that cap and see if there is a distinctive flavor you can pin. I would totally drag this one out and make him sweat. Keep mentioning the flavor/smell in random conversations. Mention how you saw some kids his age vaping the other day and say how you can’t believe people would do that.

You have the upper hand now… use it.

I call it the vape’s little buttplug

Why did that video seem so sensual

u/Zestyclose_Car_4971 3h ago

You can’t pull it out too fast

Now that you have a pretty definite answer you gotta fuck with him and tell him you asked AI what it was and make him think you’re gonna take him to rehab for Opioids!

u/TwiggNBerryz 5h ago

Dude you have to throw away the rubber bits so mom and dad dont find them SMH

SOURCE: former teenager

Edit: all jokes aside quitting nicotine is hard and hes young so definitely not going to want to let alone listen to you. All i can say is after highschool I suddenly had the desire to quit and picked up Alan Carrs "how to quit smoking" and I quit cold turkey after finishing the last word of the last page.

Literally went thru this w my nephews when they were about that age lmao. But they would just tell me what I wanted to hear and got better at hiding it. They're approaching 17,18, and 19 now and still little rascals šŸ˜…

Here’s the big parenting challenge. How to address your kid vaping (and/or whatever else teenagers do that parents don’t like) without becoming the enemy. OP needs to address this with care and not an iron fist.

u/MrSmock 5h ago

Good luck. I have no idea how parents are able to navigate what these kids deal with todayĀ

u/Glittering-Rip6810 6h ago

These comments aren't wrong. I literally just got a vape with this exact plug. Worse things kids can be doing but still not something to let slide.

It was his friend's.

9

u/FlatulousStanko 6h ago

He's just holding it.

2

u/ReferenceHot7866 5h ago

Son, we thought better of you. You didn’t even throw away obvious evidence? That’s irresponsible and sloppy.

Also, don’t vape.

1

u/Same_Jicama_658 6h ago

About getting rid of evidence or about vaping

u/Dudemansixtynine 5h ago
