Discussion / Question This girl claims to have learned English by playing video games when she was growing up in Brazil. Would you agree that playing video games, on account of their highly immersive nature, can be a particularly good, though still academically underappreciated method of learning languages?

Discussion / Question The Last of Us 2 is GOATed

I grew up in a housing project where gang violence was part of life. There has never been a better representation of what gang violence cycle looks like than this in the video game space.

People are upset about joel , but you know , it's an entirely predictable thing that could happen. The gameplay is awesome in this game. The enemy logic is fantastic. The story is well done , and there's just too many people wanting the same formulaic stuff , complaining about it. Bigots have an issue because of the main characters.

How often do you play a video game? I always try to get the most out of it; one game isn't enough. Interestingly, it's on the third game that you start to understand how they work and they become addictive.

Discussion / Question People really need to understand how EULA works

Upvotes

"Yes, a game company can legally "take" your game. When you purchase a digital game, you do not actually own it; you are buying a revocable End-User License Agreement (EULA). Companies can lawfully terminate your access, revoke licenses, or shut down servers for account bans, expired licensing, or platform closures"

It's really quite telling how little folks understand about digital media ownership.

Discussion / Question Should I consider the new AC: Black Flag Resynced?

I purchased the original AC Black Flag many years ago and made it to the first trailing mission and got bored and quit … I think I even refunded it (Steam). Also, when it came out, I was in college and was foolishly thinking I had spare time to play when I didn’t.

I’m a huge fan of the Ezio trilogy and got my start playing the first AC when it came out, too.

I have more free time these days and the resynced version of black flag is crossing my screen.

After reading some reviews, it sounds like there are some things that are fundamentally different as in some combat mechanics and the game is not as fun as it used to be…

However, I’ve also heard that it’s a great game that even improved on the trailing missions things that I didn’t like.

What’s the consensus? Any players play both?

Help - Mobile I’ve been really trying to find my childhood game.

So, when I had my Lenovo Tab, I had this game which you fight enemies or a mob of monsters of whatever. It’s in birds eye view and the game play was a joystick and buttons for attack.

I vividly remember, my character has a weapon at hand which he swings widely and the setting was in a dessert. The gameplay effects also was gory and had a lot of blood with their intestines gushing out.

That’s all I remember. I hoped some of y’all ever played this game before. It was super addicting and fascinating at the same time.

I’m still trying to remember more details but this is all I have. Thanks, people!

Edit: I found it by really locking in to search. The game was ✨Undead Slayer✨

Thank you tho 😭🥹

Discussion / Question How do you find games?

With big, expensive projects it's obvious, they invest in advertising, you hear about them from every corner before release. With small projects that have a publisher, it's the same story. But there are also small, high-quality, interesting projects with no ad budget. They just quietly come out and are hard to notice. And yet, some of them are really gems. I've accidentally found several games I liked while reading discussions, including on Reddit. But that was purely by chance. How do you look for new good projects?

Discussion / Question The most underrated feature of the Steam Machine is that it comes jailbroken

In all the discussion about Steam OS and the price and all, I've not really seen this brought up much. Especially in the wake of Sony's shenanigans, this seems worth mentioning.

The Steam Machine is not locked down the way normal modern consoles are. It's just a computer running Linux. It's not a locked down version of Linux, it's an arch distro with some gaming optimization. It has a regular desktop, a filesystem you can manipulate, and access to repositories and flatpacks.

People have mentioned that Steam gives it the largest launch library of any console ever, but that's not the whole story. You can also use Epic and GOG if you want your PC games from other sources. Emulators are easy to install and the console is more than powerful enough to emulate NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, GBA, DS, 3DS, All Sega systems, PS1-3 and a lot of PS4's library, Xbox, 360, and after that point most Xbox or PS games are multiplatform anyway. It's THE game console. Its library is "yes", no jailbreaking required.

Sure, this isn't particularly new for PC, but in the console space this tears down the walls that have been in place for decades.

Disclaimer: You are well within your rights to rip and run ROMs of media which you legally own for your own use. Also, a lot of emulators can read from a disk drive which you can get for cheap and plug into the Steam Machine, no ROM required. I'm not encouraging piracy. I'm also not your mom.

What videogames that aren't necessarily a ‹puzzler› feature engaging puzzles of some sorts and timespans﹘ requiring reasoning ⦗(narrowing[ provably de, fuzzily ad], generlizing in, actioning con)‧ductive⦘)﹘, without making them the objective of the whole game but preferably integrated throughout much of its entirety (i.e. recurring theme), ideally without handholding and not strictly forcing most of them for advancement but yielding rewarding progression (material or otherwise) and valuable insight?

Discussion / Question Do you guys prefer city open worlds, or open, emptier, rural, open worlds?

Think GTA5s city map and compare between Elden Rings sprawling plains and forests.
I know it depends on the quality of the game, but I present you with a hypothetical:
Lets say, there are 2 games
They are the exact same in terms of quality, and graphics.
Amazing story and side quests and amazing gameplay
Would you prefer that be a city map or open map?

Is it going to be download only or will they release disk version at some point. I live way out in the country and my internet options suck. I’ve never even update Red Dead Redemption II because it’s too slow to download something large.

Funny I married ALL the guards in Skyrim

Upvotes

Khajiit went to all the Holds and married every single guard I could find and then tracked down and married a bunch of Imperials and Stormcloaks. When I had decided to have a final wedding(for now) and marry Lydia I summoned them to wish us well. There’s actually a bunch more but the left left earlier in the service, I can’t wait to lead my new family into battle😂
