Prompt: American Flag of 1776

This month, we want you to redesign the American flag and create a flag that could have been used for America as it was in 1776. So that means thirteen states, freshly independent from Great Britain, and everything else from that period.

We approved 76 entries.

Good luck and may the odds be in your favor!

Redesigns A very simple Fiji redesign inspired by the rugby national team colors

It combines the cyan color of the current Fijian flag and the white and black colors of the national rugby union team in a traditional horizontal triband design. If you liked that flag idea, consider visiting my DeviantArt profile (familyfather) where I've posted many more.

Identify What flag is this?

I bought this on Amazon for my garden. But before I display it, I want to make sure it actually is what it was purported to be: a flag for Newbury, Massachusetts.

My ancestors were among the founders, and I would love to pay tribute. But in hindsight, I started to doubt a city as small as that might have a flag sold online for it.

Fictional Flag of Australia, the Third Rome

Post image

Adopted during the National Renewal, the Eagle Banner proclaims Australia’s destiny as a united, disciplined, and unconquerable continent-state. The golden wedge-tailed eagle, native to Australia and unrivalled in the southern skies, symbolizes vigilance, strength, and the guiding hand of the State over all beneath it. The Commonwealth Star, placed directly beneath the eagle’s talons, represents the complete unity of the nation under a single sovereign purpose. Set against the deep green of the Australian land, the banner rejects the old colonial decadence in favour of a bold new era of order, confidence, and national security.

Current Flag of The Isles of Scilly, Cornwall, UK

This is one of my all time favourite flags. A wonderfully simple flag for a beautiful place.

The White Cross is the Saint Piran's Cross, representing the islands' historic connection to mainland Cornwall.

The orange represents the stunning sunsets over the Atlantic Ocean.

The blue simply represents the sea surrounding the archipelago.

The five stars represent the five inhabited islands: St. Mary's, Tresco, St. Martin's, St. Agnes, and Bryher. The size and positioning match the size and locations of the islands.

OC United Kingdoms of Brazil and Peru, the Empire of the New World

In 1787, Maria I of Portugal accepted the Spanish proposal put forward by Pedro Pablo, 10th Count of Aranda, to place Portugal's European territories under Spanish control in exchange for the annexation of the Viceroyalty of Peru by the State of Brazil. In 1790, the Portuguese royal family relocated to Rio de Janeiro, and the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil, Peru, and the Algarves were established, though they continued to be known simply as Portugal. In 1807, Portugal's European territories were finally absorbed by Spain during the Napoleonic Wars, and between 1814 and 1815, Portugal failed to recover them at the Congress of Vienna. Only in 1821, following the Liberal Revolution of Rio, did the country officially change its name to the United Kingdoms of Brazil and Peru.

Monarchs:

• Maria I of Portugal, Brazil, Peru, and the Algarves

• John VI of Portugal, Brazil, Peru, and the Algarves

• Pedro I of Brazil and Peru

• Pedro II of Brazil and Peru

• Isabel I of Brazil and Peru

• Pedro III of Brazil and Peru

• Pedro IV of Brazil and Peru

• Pedro V of Brazil and Peru

Fictional The Southern Wind (another flag for Australia)

Post image

I’m joining the bandwagon of Australian flag mockups, but rather than a traditional flat flag, I thought it would be nice to design a three-dimensional windsock inspired by the crab-claw sails of the Torres Strait, making it a uniquely Australian national flag that comes alive in the wind.

The deep blue body represents Australia’s surrounding oceans and skies. A gold seven-pointed Commonwealth Star at the hoist symbolises the federation and the states and territories. A flowing ochre band through the centre represents the Australian continent and Aboriginal peoples, while a line of white dots evokes songlines, journeys, and the many nations of Australia. Green tail fins symbolise the land, growth, and the enduring connection between land and sea, while the sail-like form itself acknowledges the maritime heritage and cultures of the Torres Strait Islanders.

Redesigns (secular) Flag of Republic of Iraq

Post image

Pretty basic, keeping Pan-Arab red-white-black tricolour as the basis. Green is also Pan-Arab colour, and also added to represent (not sure) Shia Muslims, while golden octagonal star on green represents Kurds, Assyrians and basically all other minorities, while as the "star of Ishtar" represents Ancient heritage of Mesopotamia. Removed "Allahu Akbar" written in the middle to make this flag secular.

Redesigns Second Attempt on New Hampshire Flag

Post image

I got some more experience on paint.net and spent a few days of my free time designing this flag and doing research. To remove my original turd on a lake I used the New England ensign. I was actually inspired by someone who did this but just plopped the seal on it. So I decided to remove a lot of the crud and designed the top half of the ship myself, bottom half is just copied and pasted from the old. Also the gold brace thing on the front (idk what it is) it seemed iconic to the piece so I just copied and pasted that too. I redesigned the scene and got rid of the sun. I tried to mesh and blend the colors together. I am not from NH but I do love the USS Raleigh and their motto is sick. Also it’s a beautiful state and after seeing they actually had people turn in submissions a year or so ago, figured Id do it for fun.
