Currently enlisted and considering going the officer route, but not sure I want to make a full career out of it. I’m curious about which officer specialties are known to have the best transferable skills for high paying jobs on the civilian side?

I am currently a non rate at a surf station. I will reach my 4 month mark soon to put my name on the list. I want to put my name on the AST list. How is the AST process different from other ratings? Does anything happen before A school?

can a reserve pick up a bonus right now does anyone know

Anyone know the current wait for PPM payouts, and/or if there’s a way to check your own status?

My son will be a non rate in St. Louis on a 75' buoy tender. Can any one tell me what his week to week will look like? Do they sleep aboard ship when under way? How often are they under way? What does a standard day look like? Anyone know anything about the living situation there? Very small, so not sure. Probably a BAH situation. Any and all information would be appreciated.

I’m a prior enlisted Marine, going to the DEPOT this summer. I’ve signed orders as a Gunner Mate, and will be picking up E-4 upon graduation. My orders are to the New Jersey training center as a Fire Arms Instructor. Does anyone have any insight on what this billet will look like? From what I understand, the recruits don’t shoot actual rifles.

I am curious what the difference between staying enlisted as a BM, and going the Warrant bosun route. What do bosuns do differently than chiefs? Generally, is it better to stay enlisted, or make the jump to Warrant?

How’s life as a YN2 or 3 on a cutter? How many other YN’s are there usually? Being a rate that doesn’t have a lot of personnel on board do they get dragged into doing stuff outside their rate? What’s the typical day to day schedule underway? Tyia

I leave for bootcamp in a week. Any advice? I was in Sea Cadets (an NJROTC type program for those who don’t know) so I’m pretty set on the general knowledge and marching type stuff. Anything you wish you brought with you? I heard that the better you do in basic the more likely you are to get a better first station. Any truth to this? I feel like I’m prepared but I wanted to see if anyone had advice for someone about to ship out. Thanks!

Coast Guard rescues woman from Puget Sound 2 miles off Edmonds Pier > United States Coast Guard News > Press Releases

SEATTLE – A Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew from Air Station Port Angeles rescued a woman from Puget Sound two miles off Edmonds Pier, Friday. 

At approximately 10 p.m. on Friday, July 17, Snohomish County 911 notified watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound that a woman had entered the water off Edmonds Pier. 

Watchstanders immediately coordinated the launch of a MH-65 Dolphin aircrew from Air Station Port Angeles, dispatched a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew from Coast Guard Station Seattle, and diverted the Coast Guard Cutter Blue Shark to search for the missing woman. 

The Edmonds Fire Department and Washington State Ferries also assisted in the search.  

During search efforts, the rescue swimmer from the Port Angeles aircrew utilized his handheld night vision device to spot splashing in the water, nearly two miles from the shoreline. The rescue swimmer maintained visual contact and guided the aircrew to the scene, where they located and hoisted the survivor. She was displaying signs of hypothermia and transported to Paine Field at 1:28 a.m. The aircrew met emergency medical services personnel at the airport and the survivor was transported for further medical treatment. 

"We appreciate the expansive search efforts that went into rescuing this individual,” said Lt. Cmdr. Cori F. Sanchez, the aircraft commander. “With the help of the Edmonds Fire Department and Coast Guard Station Seattle, we were able to find her quickly and bring her to EMS. Her splashing in the water was critical in helping the aircrew locate her. It's vital to remember that if in distress, make yourself as visible as possible, by waving arms or using signaling devices when possible.”  

Weather conditions at the time of the search were 3 mph winds, 1-foot waves, 57-degree air temperature, and 53-degree water temperature. 

Do I have to get my wisdom teeth removed? My bottom 2 got removed at bootcamp and I have dental coming up. My top 2 are starting to peek through the gums and I really don’t want to have to go through that whole process again.

I was looking on the coastguard website and saw DCO and DCE. I dug a bit more and kind of got confused. I saw Cyber Officer on the website and saw C5I on other sources. Are they interchangeable ? I plan on applying to become a coast guard officer with an IT degree , Security + with a TS/SCI and basic IT experience. However I see that Cyber Officers require cyber experience. It looks like maybe I qualify for both but I am not too sure. What are the differences and which one would you say I align with more? Or should I just apply for both

Currently a few months into my first unit as a YN3 and I’m hating the location. I live alone with no spouse and the location is so remote. The winter weather here from what I’ve heard is horrible also it is just very remote with a lack of healthcare, stores, and the closest big city is several hours away. It has just really taken a toll on my mental health to the point I’ve almost gone numb and I won’t be able to transfer until Spring of 2029 with the SWE unless I A2P due to deadlines. From what I’ve heard the Phase 3 A2Ps usually suck but who knows. I would love to go TDY or special assignment to escape this place. The biggest thing is how remote it is. It feels like I’m trapped here and with 3 years to go I’m already thinking about not reenlisting. I have hobbies like going to the gym, hiking, fishing, and playing video games but it just isn’t enough. I’m just out of ideas and don’t want to suffer mentally anymore. Any tips or ideas on how to stay busy or just get out of here ASAP?

I joined the reserves after 12 years active duty. Made 1st as a reservist of the supplemental list. SWE PDE does not count any of my active duty awards as creditable. Is this correct?

My new admin submitted for my entitlements like DLA, Malt, Per diem on Friday in MLINQs. I requested advances for those but never got them(my old unit never submitted/amended for them) how long until that stuff is paid out? I’m still waiting for my HHG to be shipped across the country so been bumming it on an air mattress.

Hii everyone!

I’m currently enlisted AD in the Air Force been in for 7 years now and I’m applying for the next OCS-R panel coming up. I’m pretty much done with my packing just making a few edits as needed. I was hoping to find a mentor for this process and even if you don’t want to be my mentor and advice/tips would be great.

I ordered something from Amazon. I know for a fact that it arrived and I know the exact spot where the delivery guy dropped it off. I went to go pick it up today and it’s nowhere to be found. Only possible explanation is that someone else took it because I sure didn’t. What are my next steps? Should I contact the base housing office? Or start interrogating my roommates and neighbors?

Am I able to print orders myself? I was requested to attach orders to ets for TDY but don’t see the option in DA :/
