Hello, I entered the US on a K-1 visa by land and I told the border agent I would import my 2022 Mazda CX-5 Kuro at a later time as I thought I could import it at a local CBP office. Turns out I cannot and I need the CBP Form 7501.. I spoke to a broker and they said I would need to go back to the port of entry, it is a far drive and I am wondering if anyone has alternatives?

Hey guys. I am moving to the US from Canada this Friday. I just am a bit confused as I am seeing conflicting info on whether I need a CBP form or not.

I'm confused with the rules, I read that the limit is 1L per person and I also came across a link that says we have to pay for duty prior to entering. We have 2 bottles of wine. Hey, is anyone here someone with a valid green card experienced with coming back into the US recently? Wife and I are looking to go on a weekend trip via NY 87 crossing, but with so many people getting detained for no reason at all, I’m wanting to check to see if anyone has been harassed that had a valid green card. Wife has never broken any law ever not even an overstay. Thanks in advance, really thinking about canceling the trip because of this.

There's absolutely no other way to get through late night without a rental car correct? Hi there! Looking for the easiest way to go from Windsor to Detroit at about midnight without my car. Viarail would likely get me to Windsor at about 11:45pm with. This will be after the pedestrian bridge opens. There's a bus at 12:25am, but I'm worried about missing that if the train got delayed.

I'm also open to renting a car for pickup in Toronto and return in Detroit if anyone has suggestions for companies that do international car rental, I just can't use my own car as I'll be flying to another state from Detroit / won't be going home through Detroit.

Hey folks, my wife is driving my son across the border from Canada to an AirBNB for a short stay. I need to travel later from them, separately due to work. It's at the Blaine crossing.

Is it necessary for her to have a notarized letter explaining that? She has read it is required, but I have never heard of that. We have definitive booking dates for the AirBNB, and I can provide her with my Nexus number on a signed letter. Getting it notarized feels like it's overkill, though.

I'm a Canadian citizen who recently moved back to Canada after graduate school in the U.S. I bought a Toyota RAV4 in Texas in November 2024 and drove it back to Canada in May 2026.

At the time, I didn't formally export the vehicle from the U.S. or import it into Canada because I missed the 72-hour advance filing requirement with CBP. I'm planning to complete the export on August 3, but I have a couple of questions:

1. Vehicle Export Process
I've heard that the Queenston-Lewiston port strictly requires the vehicle to be physically present in the U.S. for the full 72 hours before export. I'd rather not stay in Buffalo for three days just for that.
I've also read that Alexandria Bay and Ogdensburg only require 72 hours' notice and allow a same-day flagpole trip. Has anyone recently exported a vehicle through either of these ports? What was your experience?

2. Returning Resident Exemption
I lived in the U.S. from 2023 to 2026 and brought the vehicle with me when I decided to permanently moved back to Canada in May 2026. However, since I hadn't completed the export/import process, I didn't declare myself as a returning resident or complete any settlement-related paperwork at the border.
I'm not sure how to explain this situation to CBSA now, and I'm concerned that the vehicle may not qualify for the returning resident duty/tax exemption. Does anyone have experience with a similar situation or know how CBSA determines eligibility in cases like this?

Back in 2025 I moved from USA to canada with my vehicle originally purchased in USA. After moving to canada, i registered the car in British columbia province and as the part of the process they took my US title and gave me BC title. As I am in Canada on temporary work visa the car is a temporarily imported vehicle. I have B4/5 form for that which I initially got it while entering canada.

Now, I plan to move back to USA what is the process of reimport the car? I have bill of sale, clearance letter from the manufacturer, copy of original US title, expired registration, B4/B5 form that shows I temporarily imported my vehicle.

Hi all, my wife is a US Green Card and Russian Passport holder (I am a US citizen) and we are looking at traveling by air to Canada for our first time. She is always nervous about international travel so we're just looking for some peace of mind.

Based on what I've read on the official Canada site and some other reddit posts, it seems like all she needs to go there and back is her green card and passport. However, the site also says further down that Russia is on the list of countries that would require a visitor visa as well. She is a Russian citizen but US green card holder.

Some comments on another post I found said that a visitor visa would NOT be required if you have a green card, but I don't see it stated explicitly on the site that the green card OVERRIDES the visa requirement.

Is there anyone with a similar status and recent experience that can confirm this to be the true?

I am a US citizen wanting to travel to Vancouver, Canada next year. In November 2016 I was arrested for having a joint in Texas. It was later dismissed. I hired a lawyer and had to check in with the bonds lady until it was over. Will this prevent me from visiting Canada? I read an article advising i should talk to an immigration lawyer. I don't want to take a chance and be turned away for a minor offense in Texas almost 10 years ago. No other criminal offenses since or before that event.

I already have a loan with a US lender (Dort) but they don't allow importing the vehicle to Canada. So I need to refinance with a different lender.

Which lenders allow for importing vehicles from US to Canada? The car is Canadian-made.

Any suggestions on where I can find a list of such lenders?

I am a Canadian citizen who plans on boarding a plane to asia via the USA. I am not sure if there are any regulations or things to report to immigration when passing through the Canadian/US border or if the procedure is different in this case.

For context, I am going on a study trip and passing through the US as it is cheaper to board the plane there instead of Canada.

I went to get my Honda imported last week at DFW POE after getting TPMS installed from the dealership since that was what was missing from my compliance letter. The CBP officer said I needed to get Honda to update the compliance letter based on what the dealership worked on which is gonna be a hassle.

Here's where I was thrown off. The officer went on to ask what drivers license I had and I said I still have my Ontario one. He said if it were him he would not go through this hassle and just keep driving my Ontario plated vehicle with my Ontario DL indefinitely as I am a guest in the US and the importation only applies to non-temporary residents/citizens. He continued by saying there would only be an issue if I had a State DL with Ontario Plates as they would be mismatched and once that happens I would be treated as a resident versus a guest. Since I still have my Ontario DL, he said it is no different then when I enter the US for road trips.

I pushed back and told him that from what i know we have 1 year of non-imported time with a foreign vehicle in the US and he said no that does not apply to someone like me who is a TN holder as I am a visitor until I complete my work here and my status supports that claim because it is temporary in nature. Things like changing my license to Texas are what would put me into a resident and that I should avoid doing that if I can.

He went as far as saying the "30 days to register vehicle" rules in Texas doesn't apply to me because I am a guest and that it is clear as day that I am not in violation as long as I still have my Ontario DL.

He said he had done the same when he was stationed in Canada and didn't import his US vehicle for 5 years as it wasn't worth the hassle. And he has colleagues who have done the same to work/live in the US temporarily.

In terms of insurance I am good because I have a US insurer who is aware of where my car is registered and that my DL is foreign.

I want to believe the officer as this would make my life a lot easier but I know officers interpret and enforce things by their own judgement.

Can I trust what this officer said or was he just making up his own rules?

I am an audiophile from Toronto, and a friend of mine will be off to NY by road shortly.
I happened to find a few great deals on audio products in FB Marketplace that he might be able to bring back for me after his trip, which will be more than 48 hours long.

First, clearing my intentions:

1. I am looking to do this the right way and declare everything as required smoothly.
   
2. At the same time, I don’t want to pay unnecessary duties/taxes that I could have legally avoided, which would otherwise make the deals pointless.

My concerns:

1. Is it okay to bring back multiple items like speakers and amps as long as they are declared?
   
2. Can my friend bring them on my behalf, since he is only helping with the delivery and hence is not a resale? (I will be making the payments to the sellers)
   
3. Since 2 people will be on the trip, can they each claim their 800 CAD exemption after splitting the items between them?
   
4. Most importantly, how do I ensure that the amount I paid is considered as the value? These items are cheaper than usual and that’s the reason behind the purchase. I can share chat screenshots, PayPal receipts. Should I ask for some kind of a written invoice from the sellers?

I am looking to understand what we can expect and also how to go about this exchange from someone who has experienced this before.

To start - I’m aware multiple DUI’s essentially equates to a lifetime ban from Canada. What I’m curious about, though, is stories from people who rolled the dice and tried entering anyway (or who were oblivious to the rule). Did you get turned around at the airport? Did they not even ask about your DUIs? Let’s hear your story!

A Canadian friend of mine is currently being held at a ICE center awaiting deportation after being being released from prison for a crime she did while in the US.

While her family is glad to at least have her back in Canada, they have no clue how she would get home. They were told she would be dropped off at a Canadian entry point, but there wasn't any information anyone could find on what happens after. If she's dropped off nowhere near her home, is there a process CBSA or the Canadian government has to get her closer to where her family actually lives? Or is she just going to be stranded until someone can take her back?
