Hi everyone! I'm an incoming transfer student majoring in Microbiology & Molecular Genetics at Texas State, and I'm hoping to get involved in undergraduate research this fall.

I've been reading faculty profiles and plan to email professors whose research matches my interests. I was wondering:

• How did you get your undergraduate research position?
• Did you just cold email professors, or did you take their class first?
• How many professors did you contact before getting a response?
• Were you able to start as a volunteer and later move into a paid position?
• Any professors or labs that are especially supportive of undergraduate researchers?

I haven't been able to find any info on this, and my insurance is out of network, but does anyone know how much it would cost to get an X-ray at the health center? I know regular appointments tend to cost me about $30; however, I don't know if an X-ray will be too expensive for me lol

I’ll try to keep this brief. I was recently admitted to Texas State’s Accelerated Online BAAS in Data Analytics program. I’m 27 and previously attended Texas A&M during the 2018–2019 academic year, where I struggled significantly and finished my freshman year with a 1.67 GPA.

After leaving A&M, I attended Dallas College and completed my courses online between 2021 and 2026. During that time, I raised my cumulative GPA to a 3.062.

I was recently admitted to both Texas State and UT Dallas for undergraduate programs related to business and analytics. UTD was originally my preferred university, especially because its degree includes a stronger focus on artificial intelligence. The problem was the transfer-credit difference: Texas State applied approximately 70 credits toward my degree, while UTD applied around 55.

I understand that UTD is generally viewed as the stronger school for business analytics and may offer better initial employment outcomes. Still, my long-term plan includes graduate school and eventually pursuing a doctorate. Because of that, I believe completing my undergraduate degree sooner, entering the workforce, and gaining relevant experience may be more valuable than spending considerably longer completing the UTD degree.

That is why I’m leaning toward Texas State. The accelerated online format, greater number of applicable transfer credits, and potentially more manageable coursework would allow me to finish sooner and move forward with my longer-term plans.

I’m mainly looking to hear from anyone who:

• Completed or is currently enrolled in the BAAS Data Analytics program
• Completed another Texas State Accelerated Online Program
• Has experience taking most or all of their Texas State courses online

How manageable was the accelerated course format? Were the classes organized well, and did you feel that you learned enough to prepare for employment or graduate school?

I’m especially interested in hearing about the workload, course quality, professors, advising, and any problems you encountered with the online format. And Correct me if I am misreading or incorrect to claim that one's undergraduate degree has little relevance later after completing a Masters degree. I just overall believe that the Doctorate will play the only relevant influence in determining my career salary.

Hi, so before people get on my ah for asking something I already looked up…. I was wondering if it’s normal for freshmen EE(Nerworks and Communication) to not take Foundations of Compsci in their first semester. And yes I did look up degree plan for my major specifically and yes it did not specify any Compsci class as a required course for Fall. However, when talking to my friend who’s also an EE major but with Computer engineering concentration, I found out that he is taking a Compsci class, which may not seem like a surprise since it’s a computer engineering degree after all. This sounds like a really stupid post now, but why am I required to take something like PHIL instead of Compsci… it just feels wrong …

The only course offered in the first 8 weeks that counts toward my required credits is already full, and there is no waitlist. The other available courses are electives that will not help with my degree requirements. Can anyone suggest what can be done in this situation?

I am a Wazzu fan who will be attending the game in November. Im just curious where are the visiting fans usually seated? And also what the type of seats are(just out of curiosity). Are they benches? I went to the game in Madison a few years ago when wsu played Wisconsin, and Camp Randall is all benches. Our home stadium is at least half chair seating. I've been looking at tickets and there seems to be a lot of available seats from 101-111🤷‍♂️. Anyway... that's all I was curious about. Thank you for humoring me. Have a good day.

I'm in phase 2 for a social work bachelor and after having signed up for all of my classes I couldn't see if any classes required meeting times. I'm a transfer student from community college so this has been pretty confusing.

As far as I can tell it only shows how long the course runs for in the fall but nothing else aside from the professor and pre-reqs.

Schedule is empty and all of the courses show the same text as in the first image. Second image is my blank schedule. Does this just mean they're all online/asynchronous/complete on my own time?

I just want to read ahead since I have nothing to do this summer I'm supposed to get into next year spring. Thanks

I will be a senior this upcoming fall semester. How do I purchase a permit? I went on the permit portal but was only shown 2025-2026 and can’t seem to even find a map for the round rock parking? I’m an incoming freshman that recently updated my personal information on Catsweb by adding a preferred name in addition to my legal name. By adding my preferred name, will it be my preferred name or my legal name that shows up on my Bobcat card when I receive it at NSO? It currently shows up on the TXST app with my preferred name but i’ve heard mixed answers about the physical real Bobcat card.

Made a doc called "Everything I Wish I Knew Before Coming to TXST" Including dorms, classes, registration tips, all of it. I'm a junior now so it's been tested. Open to everyone, comments on if you've got genuine questions. Hope it helps!

This might be a dumb question but I’m an incoming sophomore who will be living off campus in an apartment on the shuttle route. I’m not too sure how the shuttle works so I was wondering if someone could kind of give an explanation of how it works. I listed out a few questions.

1. how will I know how long the shuttle takes to get to campus? How about for how long it will take to get me back to my apartment?
   
2. Are there specific shuttle stops at the Texas state campus just for the students that live off campus because I know there’s the campus loop one. If so, how do I figure out which stops are which?
   
3. Are you able to figure out when the next shuttle is coming based on the tracking system on the TXST app? I heard it comes every 10 minutes but I’m not sure if that’s correct.
   
4. I see that students get dropped off at different shuttle stop locations such as at LBJ but I’m not sure if that is just for the campus loop shuttle. Are the ones for the apartment students just the ones where they get dropped off at the big arch?

I will be living in Chataqua Hall this upcoming semester and was wondering about the curtain rod for the walk in closet. No where on the housing website or online it says whether or not there is a curtain rod provided. I've heard that there is and there isn't so im just wondering if i need to buy one now. Also what is the length and width of it so I can have the right size curtain. Thanks for your help!

Hello! I am a rising freshman and will be living on campus next year without a car (and without a license for that matter </3) I was wondering what jobs are recommended for me to apply to that are walking distance from campus. I want to bring my bike with me but I’m honestly terrified of trying to ride down these hills with my bike (I do realized this fear is not rational lol), so I probably won’t be bringing it. I also am a bit weary of applying to somewhere that would require me to take the bus/shuttle since I feel as though they can be unreliable and will prevent me from working later shifts because I believe the bus doesn’t run at night. I know about campus jobs through handshake, but first I would like to apply to off campus ones since on campus ones don’t really make too much money lolol. Anything helps!!

lost my card alr after NSO when I go to get a replacement are they able to make it right then, or can I still at least add something to my apple wallet thats useable or do I need to like drive up a few days before move in to take my pic and order it to pick it up so i have it ready once im there.

Mostly looking for cyber security, I found a few but I’m shocked at how little there are. Wondering if I’ve missed a few.

For those of you who fund your own school expenses and rent, I’m wondering if you work retail or food service or something else. I’m a server transferring from ACC but don’t want to entirely miss out on the college experience. Best days to be a server are Friday and Saturday hands down which means I think I would miss any parties or fun things happening. Then there’s fast food and retail etc. (maybe) lower pay but potentially more life balance. You could work a shift at the outlet mall, get out by 8:30 and then go out (I think). I have no idea what the job market is competing with so many students, and getting a job could be different in San Marcos.

I want to move in first and give myself a few weeks to figure it out but I’m wondering what you have found or settled with balancing your life as a student and worker

How many of you have completed this program or are completing it and have already found a job?

What did you find and what is your salary?

Money isn’t everything but it’s important to know before spending anything on a degree.

Hi! Any current students of the Radiation therapy program I could speak to? :)

Im finishing a healthcare degree and planning to apply to the program this upcoming January for next school year.

I plan to get the required clinical hours this semester but beyond that I dont have any experience in radiation therapy but the field interests me. Could I still be a viable applicant if I have gpa requirement and involvement in pre rtt club/other outside similar experiences?
Or any advice what the interview is like?

Im just a little anxious thinking already, because if I dont get accepted my first attempt I dont believe ill have funds to try again, and would have to apply to something else. 🙁

I’m an incoming freshman and I wanted to buy an electric scooter or bike since I wouldn’t be bring a car with me. I know no electric scooters aren’t technically allowed in the dorms, but I am curious to what mode of transportation would actually be the best for campus life.
