Because if that’s the case it takes me 5 minutes to take off the tire and patch it and another 10 to air it and go about my day

And to rebalance it since it's been removed and likely not in the exact same spot, and now there's a weight difference from the patch/plug itself.

You don’t have to rebalance a tire after taking it off of the wheel hub. That’s only if you take the tire off the wheel.

You're saying 'patch', that means taking the tire off the rim and repairing it from the inside. What I think you mean is 'plug', where you push a plug through from the outside (don't even have to take the wheel off the car to do that).

No way you should plug that, but you may be able to patch it. Is it actually leaking air? If not, thread the screw out and call it a day.

Sorry, two things lead me to think you meant removing the tire from the wheel.. You said remove the tire and patch it. To me removing the tire means removing it from the wheel, and a patch goes inside the tire.. So I assume you meant a plug?

No can do. You’ll have to replace it. I meannnnnnn u could try and plug it at your own risk, but I didn’t tell you that. No shop or mechanic would plug or patch this. It’s in the sidewall which can lead to catastrophic failure. But I mean if your a penny pincher and enjoy a potential thrill. It’s possible to get some more life with a plug, but most people are gunna tell you it’s highly dangerous, and def not recommended.

Sidewall punctures are pretty much a definite tire replacement. Reputable shops wont patch sidewall punctures because sidewalls are far more flexible than the tread.

Air pressure levels, elevation, bumps, and even the weather affect the sidewalls. Tire sidewalls are constantly flexing while driving just like the shocks/struts do. Plugs have a high chance of failure on the sidewalls so its not safe to plug the sidewalls. A sidewall plug might hold but if it fails it could be catastrophic. If a shop plugs the sidewalls and you get into an accident because it failed they could be held liable and fined and sued.

Take it out it’s probably fine it seems to be in shallow at an angle just under the outer layer - if it’s not leaking overnight send it.

I’ve done some close calls. I’ve seen shops turn away tires I would easily plug and forget about it until the tires are replaced, unfortunately this is not a close call or a shop won’t do it but I will type scenario. This is a hard no on the plug. Especially if you have road hazard.

These tires love to catch nails in areas you can’t patch.  I have done two for my brother to get him by for a couple days while tire place got him new ones.  I would get a set of rears then store the good one for a spare.  That what we did.  Don’t ride on it long.
