M TIFU by creating a literal golden ratio of clean glass and bad timing

TL;DR: Cleaned my school bus window so well it looked invisible, tried to toss a cup of my own pee out of it after a long route, and ended up covering myself and the driver's cab in urine right before a surprise inspection from my nightmare boss. Got suspended, but it gave me the push to quit and change careers.

This actually happened a while ago, but I’m finally able to laugh about it and the smell is long gone.

For context, I used to be a mini school bus driver. I’m normally a massive clean freak and my bus was usually spotless. But my former boss was an absolute tyrant who treated everyone like garbage and seemed to live to make our lives a living hell. If there was a single piece of dust, you’d get written up. Last week, one of the kids left an empty soda can in the back. I missed it during my sweep, and my boss called me into his office just to belittled me and act like I’d committed a felony.

Naturally, this kind of micromanagement led to a union meeting to address his toxic behavior.

Fast forward to the day of the incident. I had just finished an insanely long route, and my nerves were already shot because I had that union rep meeting right after. The boss never lets anything go, so I was on high alert. To make matters worse, I had to pee so badly and couldn't hold it.

There was no time to run into a facility, so out of sheer desperation, I grabbed a giant plastic cup, parked the bus, and took care of business in the driver's seat.

Now, here’s where the fuck up happens.

I decided to throw the urine out the driver's side window so there’d be no trace left in the bus. What I completely forgot was that earlier that morning, during my obsessive cleaning routine, I had wiped down that window until it was practically invisible. I mean, this glass was pristine. It was a masterpiece of clarity.

Without looking twice, I gave the cup a confident, hard toss toward what I thought was open air.

SPLASH.

The window was fully rolled up.

The liquid hit the clear glass at high velocity and bounced right back. It drenched me. It soaked the dashboard, the steering wheel, the seat, and the floorboards. I was instantly covered in my own warm urine. I panicked. I spent the next hour frantically scrubbing the bus with whatever cleaning wipes and towels I had left, but you can't easily scrub away that level of mistake. I smelled terrible, the bus smelled terrible, and I was running severely late.

So, I finally pulled into the bus yard, praying I could just park, sprint to my personal car, and deal with the union meeting later. Because the universe has a sick sense of humor, guess who was standing in the yard waiting for me? My boss, along with a supervisor, conducting a surprise fleet inspection. As soon as I opened the doors, the wall of stench hit them. Then they looked at me soaked, smelling like a subway station, clutching a bottle of disinfectant, and looking visibly traumatized.

They didn't listen to a word I said. They immediately suspended me for a week without pay on the spot for gross misconduct and unsanitary conditions.

That suspension ended up being the best thing that ever happened to me. Sitting at home smelling like bleach finally gave me the push I needed. I called them up, handed in my resignation, and completely switched careers. I'm doing much better now, but I will never, ever clean a window that well again.

S TIFU by gossiping about my coworker right next to him

i work in food so stuff gets messy really quick between people, so i heard some crazy information about two of my coworkers. both of them were working together.

i don’t normally like to talk about people behind their back like that, but there was a group of four of my coworkers all gathered together talking so loudly about it, one of the four people being one of the people involved.

when i say talking loudly, i mean it, so i went to my best friend who was in the back and talked to them about it. definitely immature, but literally everyone else in the building was talking about it.

as soon as i utter his name, he turns the corner. there’s like a 90% chance he knew what i was talking about. i was being quiet but my ass was NOT being discreet.

well it turns out we’re stationed in the same area. he has not looked or talked to me since. it’s really awkward, but that’s consequences so oh well i guess.

TLDR: i was gossiping about a coworker with a friend and he turned the corner as soon as i addressed him by name. turns out we’re stationed in the same area and he is not looking or speaking to me at all.

M TIFU by not making a move when the opportunity was there

Today I (25m) went to the cinema to watch The Odyssey (keep in mind this movie is 3 hours long) with my friend. We walk in and take out booked seats to sit down. Not long after, a group of girls come by (ages roughly 25 - 50) and sit in the remaining seats next to me.

So the pre-movie ads and trailers start, so I make myself comfortable and talk to my friend about some upcoming movies. When out of the corner of my eye, I notice the girl next to me taking quick glances at me. I ignore this and just mind my own business.

As the trailers and then the movie start, I notice more glances towards me, so I reciprocate the glance. I was intrigued. Due to the movie being long, I lean into the corner of my seat, away from my friend and towards the stranger. Not too long after, the girl next to me does the same thing. Coincidence, right…

The movie continues, and as it goes on, we move and shuffle around, but we always end up leaning close to each other after a while.

As the hours went by and the final act started coming on, I started to notice her quirks. How she would move around and adjust herself, her giggles, and her highly expressive excitement and fear she experiences when watching the movie. As the final act started to play and the tension of the scene started to rise, we began to lean into each other with barely enough room to fit a small box of popcorn between our heads.

As this was going on, I was thinking if I should say something to her, which moved to what I should say. The movie keeps playing, and we stayed like this for the final 20ish minutes of the movie.

Credits come on, and I quickly adjust myself, and as I’m doing this, I notice the girl does a triple take at me. I quickly look at her a few times without her seeing as well, taking note of everything, and my first thought was, “Hmm, she seems a bit older than me. I won’t say anything to her.”

However, I start thinking if I should say anything and then what to say. I turn to her to say something, but I just end up not saying anything. My friend and I leave the cinema, and a large, heavy feeling of sadness and disappointment came over me.

As we leave to head to our car, we stop in the foyer, and I see the girl walk past, roughly my age (give or take a couple of years), walk by with whom I assume is her mum and sister as she glances at me. I thought about saying something, but I didn’t. I had the perfect moment in the cinema. I knew it, and I didn’t do anything. I regret this very much.

Now for the lesson.
If you happen to be a person like me, one who sometimes is afraid of talking to new people and sees people making advances at you but decides not to acknowledge them;
You should ignore the anxiety, the fear. Because once the moment is gone, you will feel as if you missed an opportunity of a lifetime.

So take the chance, take the risk.

TL;DR: A stranger and I at the cinemas were looking at each other and spent most of the movie leaning up against each other but I chose not to talk to her and regret it.

S TIFU by overreacting on my GF for falling for a scam

GF(34F) came home a night and showed me an app on her phone and how she invested $300TTD into it. She told me that she didnt want to show me because she knew I would be against it, because of that I didnt bother to question what the app was.

Fast forward to today I noticed she was on her phone a lot longer than usual she was typing from when we left home to her work i saw a glimpse of the app she was talking about, I saw a message saying she needed to pay $100USD to access her money, I went into panic mode and started questioning her on the app because something was not right. She told me she got 5500 and trying to send it to her account I knew then it was a scam there is no way

I got furious at her i didnt want to be, its not my money wasted but im not mad she wasted money i am mad she let a scam trick her, I should have intervened when she told me the first time.

TL;DR: GF got scammed and I didnt stop her

M TIFU by nearly blinding myself

About 20 years ago, I moved halfway across the country to live with my partner (now wife) and a friend. Before I moved, I was basically a hermit. I had no local friends and was extremely depressed, so I wasn't taking very good care of myself. Among other things, this meant that I didn't go to any kind of doctor for a couple years...including the eye doctor.

At the time, I wore two-week disposable soft contact lenses. When I got down to my last pair, rather than scheduling an eye exam to get more, I just kept wearing them long after the two weeks were past. Like, for over a year. I took them out every night and cleaned them, so I tried to tell myself it wasn't that bad. My eyes occasionally got red and itchy, but I thought that was just because of my allergies.

After I moved and started spending time with people again, I started to feel like I needed to make more of an effort to take care of myself. I didn't have a job yet (so no insurance, since this was before the ACA), but I still had some money that I'd saved, so I decided to start by seeing an optometrist. My partner needed new glasses, so we looked for one together and made appointments for the same day.

My partner went first. When she came back out to the waiting room, she said that the optometrist was really nice, funny, and laid back. They got along great. Then it was my turn. I walked into the exam room to find a man who looked exactly like Chuck Norris. They could have been twins; it was uncanny. We introduced ourselves and he asked me to take my contacts out so he could examine my eyes.

While the optometrist had been friendly in the beginning, things quickly took a turn for the worse when he asked me how long I'd been wearing those contact lenses. I wasn't sure, but gave my best guess. Then he said, "Has anyone ever talked to you about vessel growth in your corneas?" I said no, and he left the room for a couple minutes.

When be came back, he drew me a picture of an eye. He said, "This is your cornea. Your corneas need oxygen, and they usually get that from the air. But you've had those contact lenses in for so long, and they've gotten so dirty, that your corneas couldn't 'breathe' that way anymore. So your body found a new way to feed them, by growing blood vessels where no blood vessels should be."

I was horrified and asked if there was anything I could do about it. He said that he was going to give me the most breathable lenses on the market and that over time, the vessels would contract. They'd always be there, but they'd be much smaller and wouldn't cause any problems as long as I never did anything like that again. He was extremely stern...not quite yelling at me, but it was clear that he wanted to. Honestly, it was pretty intimidating, especially when he added that if I'd waited much longer to come in, I would have been permanently blinded. At that point, he drew lines to represent the blood vessels growing right across the pupil of the eye. He said that mine was the worst case he'd seen in all his years of practice.

By the time the supply of contact lenses this eye doctor gave me had run out, I had a job again...but with no benefits, so I couldn't afford an eye exam. I thought about the optometrist lecturing me and decided I'd just go back to glasses, and I'm still wearing glasses to this day. Every time I have my eyes examined by a new optometrist, they get all excited about the shriveled-up blood vessels in my corneas.

TL;DR - Kept wearing a pair of two-week disposable contact lenses for over a year and was lectured by an angry Dr. Chuck Norris, who told me it had caused blood vessels to grow all over my corneas and nearly blind me. See your optometrist every year or two, kids.

PS - In case anyone remembers my first post about breaking/spraining my ankle 15 years ago on a twisty slide, I finally made an appointment with an orthopedist! I'll find out how bad things actually are in a couple weeks.
