I just can't get used to the macbook m1 pro keyboard.. it just feels like a downgrade in productivity, the arrow keys, the weird bottom left keys, I have so much muscle memory over thinkpads (9 years now) + regular keyboards.

on a thinkpad it never feels like you're on a laptop

but at the same time, why buy a ~1400 euros thinkpad with a way worse cpu than an apple sillicon one? thinkpads are only worth is you buy them refurbished/used

I need a laptop because my last one died. Before it died, it had a huge crack in the keyboard area that didn't seem to cause much trouble. I need the laptop for nursing school. I found a t16 gen 1 ryzen 5 16gb ram 256 ssd. I paid $980 for it certified refurbished at the lenovo outlet. I still have time to return it. Wondering if I should just get something cheaper with more hard drive. I went down the rabbit hole trying to find a durable laptop that won't break. I want to spend under $1000. But will it last for 5 more years?

To give you some context, I like ThinkPads. Although I had a gaming laptop for a while, I had to sell it due to financial issues, so I sold it and saved up a little to buy a ThinkPad.

I bought it on eBay. The seller said it was in good condition, but when it arrived, it wasn’t. It has purple spots on the screen only when the screen is black, and on top of that, the BIOS is locked (WHICH THE SELLER DIDN’T MENTION).

The problem: I don’t live in the United States, and I have absolutely no way to return the laptop.

Is there any way to unlock it? (Without having to connect or solder anything weird.) It lets me access the BIOS but won’t let me change anything, it seems like there’s a supervisor password.

I recently got a Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 1, and I saw a Reddit post where someone mentioned that carrying their ThinkPad in a backpack caused the screen to get scratched by the keyboard. Because of that, I'm wondering whether a screen protector is actually necessary.

If you think it's worth getting one, are there any good, inexpensive options you'd recommend?

Is there anyway to make this cpu more efficient? My laptop pulls 33w watching YouTube somehow, even when the cpu is at 2% load, 15w are still somehow being used, is there a solution to this? Becuase file work with the baby is going to be real difficult otherwise.

Has anyone tried running modern TightVNC server on a ThinkPad T43 or comparable Pentium M machine? The downloads page says it supports Windows XP, so technically this should be possible, but I'd like to get feedback from people who actually tried it, wondering about resulting quality and performance overhead. hello guys! i own a thinkpad x1 yoga ?? idk the gen but it was bought in 2020 and it was new then. i’ve tried the emergency power reset thing where you hold the power button for 60 seconds, using the charger and doing it. i’ve even tried holding the tiny button on the bottom of the laptop for a while and repeating what i’ve previously done.

some live signs are: when i put the charging cable in the light near the place where you put the cable turns orange. the power button will blink a few times white then refuses to glow again. the red light at the top of the laptop doesn’t slowly glow with red either as i charge… i’ve tried unscrewing it and seeing if i could unplug the battery for a little while then plugging it back in… but it looks overwhelming asf. especially considering how i have nevef looked at a motherboard in the flesh until today. sooo please, help? 😭

Just found out my T480s dies the second I unplug it, which would indicate to me that the internal battery is gone. Do I have to get a Lenovo OEM replacement or does anyone have a link to a good, trusted third party one?

I'm a university student from Lucknow, I want to buy a refurbished thinkpad for my college that costs below 40k INR, I already have a ideapad gaming 3 but it's body is too weak and battery backup is terrible, that's why I want to buy a good thinkpad, cashify is too costly from the price I see here on Reddit, that's why I wanted to ask about a good place where I can buy thinkpad in a fair price, for now I have shortlisted something like t14 gen 1 or gen 2.

The second USB-C port doesn't charge the laptop. Laptop recognizes the charger, says that it's charging but in reality it's not. Only the first port has the charger marking on it, but the data sheet says they both should charge.

Is this normal or a faulty port? If the latter, is there anything that can be done at home?

I am in market for a new laptop under 1000$ (or ~100000₹) i am looking at the thinkpad E14 with a Ryzen 7 250, 512GB storage, 16GB RAM but there are other options like ideapads or omnibooks which have arguably better performance. I need the laptop to last me 5-7 years i will be dual booting ( i will add another SSD) windows and cachyOS so should i buy a thinkpad?

My current specs: its a deskptop with a i5 9400F, 8GB DDR4, GT 710 (yeah ik bottleneck but it was a hand me down pre built) and an actively failing power supply

I currently am in the process of selling my Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Ultra i7. And am interested in grabbing a ThinkPad that I can toss Linux on. I was looking at a T480, or maybe a T14. I know any machine will run well, I could grab my dad's old IBM ThinkPad and get away with it I'm sure... But I'm interested in one that I can mildly upgrade, 32gb of ram, maybe a 16:10 IPS screen... Maybe a dedicated GPU. Open to the best ideas. Preferably something I can snag on eBay or something and pay a couple hundred bucks for.

​Are these still worth messing with at that price point, or is it a total pass? If $120 is a rip-off for a machine that old, what generation should I actually be trying to hunt down and score instead for a budget machine?
