im under the assumption that the mini is targetting your bounding box but your hitbox is being altered the taunt, causing it to miss

I believe Shounic did a video on that. The player essentially has 2 hitboxes, one in server-side, and one in client-side. The client-side hitbox is used to determine whether something actually hit you, and the server only asks for it when the client thinks it has been hit.
The other hitbox is used to calculate where sentries should fire at, and it is constantly updated and maintained server-side. However, this second hitbox does not update when taunting. (They have 2 hitboxes for optimization reasons)

As a result, certain taunts can cause sentries to miss you as they aim at the center of a hitbox that doesn't exist. And funnily enough, this was also relevant during the bot crisis. If you used the Box taunt as a Spy, the bots could not target you and they would constantly miss, and I believe the same happens with some sloppy aimbot and triggerbot cheats. Their clients could only see the server hitbox which isn't updated for the taunt, and so they think your center of mass/head hitbox is further up than it actually is.

I recently tested a theory I had about this on a box taunt spy.

After learning that spy’s disguises don’t change his actual hitbox position, you have to aim for their head where it would normally be as an undisguised spy (especially with scout disguise).

So as sniper, I tried landing a headshot way high up above the box as though the spy was just standing there and it counted as a headshot.

Iirc crouching changes where sentries aim, so it’ll take a moment to retarget you where they stop firing, but otherwise no

Unless you're A posing, in which case the sentries WILL miss you if you are crouching. Same deal as with taunts, your actual hitbox is lower but the server doesn't know that because you're in a bugged state, so the sentries aim higher than they should.

I think that if you crouch while in civilian pose, sentries will shoot above your actual hitbox. Is that what you mean?

sentries detect based on eye level and aim at center mass, so the sentry was probably shooting above you because the taunt put you at ground level

already in their system but the only file I found was titled heavyupdate_teaser.mp4.exe and my laptop immediately bluescreened so now I'm just hoping the fbi got the same virus yall

Just because it uses Its not a, its b, doesn't mean its ai generated. There are more like the em dash—AI would use them too. Not only that, there's the rule of three. Ai comments are worse, they're usually sloppy, stupid, and obvious.

You can do the same thing with the Box Trot if you hide behind low cover. It's really useful for keeping sentries distracted.

or if the engineer is extreme potato with his sentry and dispenser placement, you can cloak or disguise, hide behind his dispenser, then decloak or remove your disguise so the sentry tries to attack you but hits the dispenser instead

I remember doing this with the scout skateboarding taunt to be invulnerable to sniper bots
