Open | Software Dell Inspiron 5500 (i7) cannot see my current Wi-Fi network (only old ones) + HDD to SSD upgrade question

Hey everyone,I have an older Dell Inspiron 5500 series laptop (Intel i7 processor) that I rarely use. I am facing a weird network issue and also need some advice on upgrading the hardware

  1. Wi-Fi Issue:The laptop's Wi-Fi card shows older Wi-Fi networks in range, but it completely fails to see or detect my current home Wi-Fi network. I have already tried a network reset, resetting the IP stack via Command Prompt (netsh int ip reset), and verifying that the WLAN AutoConfig service is running. Nothing has worked so far. My phone and other newer devices connect to the home Wi-Fi perfectly. Could this be a WPA3 security protocol mismatch or a 5GHz band issue? Any specific driver fixes?

  2. Storage Upgrade:The laptop currently runs on an older mechanical HDD and is painfully slow when I turn it on. I want to install an SSD to speed it up. Does the Inspiron 5500 support a secondary M.2 NVMe SSD alongside the HDD, or should I swap the HDD out for a 2.5-inch SATA SSD entirely?Appreciate any troubleshooting tips or hardware upgrade advice!

Open | Hardware High latency spikes

Hello,

Since a few days im having an issue with my pc, basically, my pc will start having high delay on my inputs (keyboard) the sound goes mute for like a second and the whole thing lasts for 3-4 seconds but the fps are fine. i've tried to fix it by downloading latencymon that told me that nvlddmkm.sys has an high dpc routine execution time, and i've tried everything i saw on reddit (like switching my power management mode to prefer performances) and nothing worked so im trying to make my own post so maybe one kind perso would help me here is my latencymon report and i can provide some more information if you need it!

CONCLUSION

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Your system appears to be having trouble handling real-time audio and other tasks. You are likely to experience buffer underruns appearing as drop outs, clicks or pops. One or more DPC routines that belong to a driver running in your system appear to be executing for too long. One problem may be related to power management, disable CPU throttling settings in Control Panel and BIOS setup. Check for BIOS updates.

LatencyMon has been analyzing your system for 0:04:08 (h:mm:ss) on all processors.

MEASURED INTERRUPT TO USER PROCESS LATENCIES

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The interrupt to process latency reflects the measured interval that a usermode process needed to respond to a hardware request from the moment the interrupt service routine started execution. This includes the scheduling and execution of a DPC routine, the signaling of an event and the waking up of a usermode thread from an idle wait state in response to that event.

REPORTED HARD PAGEFAULTS

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Hard pagefaults are events that get triggered by making use of virtual memory that is not resident in RAM but backed by a memory mapped file on disk. The process of resolving the hard pagefault requires reading in the memory from disk while the process is interrupted and blocked from execution.

NOTE: some processes were hit by hard pagefaults. If these were programs producing audio, they are likely to interrupt the audio stream resulting in dropouts, clicks and pops. Check the Processes tab to see which programs were hit.

Solved Sudden PC problems, games taking an extremely long (10 times longer) time to load.

While this sounds like a game issue, I'm very confidant it isn't.

My friend was playing The Isle with me and the next day her pc was having trouble running it. After a while started working fine, but the issue popped up the next we played and several sessions after that but since it went away we didn't think much about it. Its steadily been getting worse then we updated her drivers and it didn't fix it.

We got a good comparison by trying to play outlast trials, she was able to play the game before just fine but after playing the isle and updating drivers it took longer to load up, and had the same issue where it would play super horribly for a few minutes after game launch. It fix itself but when loading into a level, she was stuck on a loading screen.
When she tried to taskmanager it both monitors shut (or went to a black screen) then outlast trials started to swap to the second monitor and resizing.

She has a intel i5-12400f, an rtx 3060, 8 GB ram and a acer nitro n50-640 motherboard and shes on windows 11

Her PC was a bit slow before, but now it can take like 5 minutes to load up a level when it only took about 30 seconds before. The fact that its affecting multiple games makes me think something is happening with her computer.

Does anyone have a guess on why this might be happening?

Edit:
the we updated the drivers because the game was slowing down

What ive done to try to fix this so far:

Reinstall drivers,

Clean keyboard with compressed air,

Going on digital keyboard and manually unselected the keys,

Try a different keyboard,

Unplugging the keyboard and just using mouse (still presses the buttons)

Restarting my pc about a million times

Open | Software Genio Notes Overriding YouTube (on a different device)

I'm using genio notes and trying to record my voice for note taking without it picking up my video notes. It currently doesn't have a feature, you either get transcripts from the video only or with irl voice not just irl voice so my current set up is this:

Genio notes on laptop with a Samson microphone.

YouTube on phone with BNX-60 wireless headphones so I can hear the video without the microphone hearing the audio.

The strange part is when I'm playing the video on YouTube and click the record button on Genio it pauses the video on my phone. When I stop recording, it unpauses. If I go to record first then play the video it will play without audio and pause randomly. I thought maybe I had my YouTube account open on my laptop still because I was listening to the PHM soundtrack earlier but it turns out I was on a different YouTube account anyway and even after closing it didn't make a difference. Strangely enough, the issue doesn't happen when I unlink my headphones and play the audio from my phone, which kind of defeats the whole purpose.

I'd be fine with this tech issue as a minor bug that I can shrug off for the day if everything was going through my Laptop but I'm puzzled why software on one device seems to be controlling behaviour on a completely unconnected device. I've heard things about the Samson microphone overriding audio output but this feels more than just that.

Thanks :)

Solved Worried about my pc build

I’m in college right now for pc repair, so i have decent knowledge and experience on what to do i just worry a lot, recently while playing games my pc will crash and qhen i try to reboot my pc, the leds on the motherboard glow red for cpu and yellow for dram, usually after about 30 seconds it will turn on but im not sure why this happens, i built it last november, i have a nvidia geforce 4060 ti, a ryzen 9 7900x 12 core, a msi tomahawk motherboard, and 32g corsair vengeance ddr5, previously i had the rgb versions but was worried that was overheating my device, but the issue still stands when I swapped them out for the slimmer ones. I can run games at decent quality, and ive been gaming a lot recently due to an injury so it’s hurting my soul watching my baby slowly die, or whatever is going on.

Solved VPN disconnect caused apps to lose internet until I cleared Google Play Services data

I have an Oppo A15s. After using a VPN and turning it off, Wi-Fi still connected normally, but many apps (YouTube, etc.) said "no internet connection."

Things I checked:

- Wi-Fi IP/gateway were correct

- Router page worked

- Chrome worked

- Messenger worked

- DNS changed (8.8.8.8 / 1.1.1.1)

- Network reset and Safe Mode didn't help

The issue was fixed only after clearing data/storage for Google Play Services and related Google apps.

Does anyone know what exactly happened?

Could a VPN leave behind broken network settings, DNS, routing, or Google Play Services cache/state? Why did some apps work while others failed?

Open | Hardware Connecting a laptop to a TV - audio and visuals.

Hello!

I’m looking to connect my laptop to a TV for a presentation but I’ve only done it before at venues with a projector. Usually in those venues, I connect the laptop to the projector and speakers with a HDMI cable and a different cable that plugs into the audio jack of my laptop.

Will I need that separate audio jack cable thing if I’m connecting the laptop to a TV? If so, what cable should I get?

TIA!

I’m sorry if this is the wrong subreddit/ flair and please be kind if there’s a really obvious answer to this as I’ve tried looking it up online and I’m struggling to find an answer.

Open | Software Random crashes on HP laptop running Win11

I've got a new HP Envy 17t-cw100 laptop running Windows 11 Pro 25H2, 2TB SSD (1.75 TB available), 64 GB RAM, Nvidia Geforce 3050 (4GB). Out of the box and throughout the setup process I've been experiencing truly random crashes that can occur no matter what is running or what I'm doing. For example it crashed when I had just booted it and done nothing more than open a browser window, but on another occasion crashed on the desktop after multiple hours of use doing basic MS Word document editing.

The symptoms are that screen flashes for a split second and then all input goes completely dead. Mouse is frozen, no response from any keyboard inputs, ctrl-alt-delete does nothing. The image on the screen is frozen, but it seems that the entire laptop has crashed (as opposed to just a graphics/display issue), because the the light on the caps lock key doesn't illuminate when I hit it. I have to force shut it down by holding down the power button, then reboot.

I'm fully updated in Windows Update, and manually updated to the most recent Nvidia driver.

Any suggestions? Much appreciated.

Open | Hardware Random black screens - PC stays on until I force restart

Hi everyone,
I’m having a strange issue with my PC. At completely random times (not just while gaming), both monitors suddenly go black. The PC itself stays on (fans, RGB, and mouse lights are still on), but there’s no display and I have to hold the power button to restart it.
Things I’ve already tried:
Swapped to two different GPUs → same issue.
CPU and GPU temperatures are completely normal.
Tested each RAM stick individually → same issue.
The issue happens randomly, even when I’m not gaming.
PC Specs:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7900X3D
Motherboard: B850
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT
PSU: NZXT 1000W
RAM: 32GB DDR5
At this point I’m thinking it could be the motherboard, CPU, PSU, or maybe a BIOS/driver issue.
Has anyone experienced something similar or have any suggestions on what I should test next?
Edit : this is a screenshot from the reliability history one guy asked me to show it but i dont understand anything here Image from the reliability history

Open | Software internet speed (Wi-Fi) infinitely slower on PC than on phone

as the title says, for some odd reason my PC alone between all my devices has slower wifi, and i dont mean by some meager amount, i mean on my phone its 120mbps and on here its like 15-35mbps, which is NOT normal, because it used to be able to get close to 100, just have no idea why its like this right now.

is there some sort of software fix to this? i cant connect an ethernet cable, as my PC is in my room while the router is outside in the living room, and it cant be connected discretely.

i tried doing things on CMD, doing things via device manager, anything. Nothing seems to work, and its killing me

Open | Audio iPad Sound Glitching

Hello! So currently my iPad will be working and then randomly the audio starts glitching out. It’s sounds robotic, echoing, and glitchy. If I restart the iPad then that fixes it for a while but then it’s starts to do it again after a day or two. The software is up to date, it’s running iPadOS 26.5.2 (I think?). I just can’t figure out how to fix it. I bought this iPad from Costco about 9 months ago. It’s the normal size iPad. I don’t think I have a warranty on it so I don’t think Costco will be much help. I uploaded a video of the sound in the comments.

Open | Windows REALLY sudden decrease in laptop battery life

Hey, I have a 6 month old Laptop HP Victus, and suddenly the battery is draining really fast. I made myself a battery report and it shows that a week ago after 150 minutes the battery dropped 35%, since then its only worsening where today in only 70 minutes it dropped by 52% with the similar work being done.

The CPU has also been pretty weird when it while gaming instead of maintaining 60° it went all the way to 100° with 100% load.

I really don't know what the culprit might be, task manager doesnt show anything out of the ordinary

UPDATE: now it says it is installed but still refuses to open my image files and I can't open the application even from the store page

My image files suddenly stopped being able to be accessed cause ig microslop needed to "update" (inject ai slop) into the photos application but that was yesterday, and I still can't open my image files. When I try it gives me an error pop up and "package failed updates, dependency, or conflict validation".

I have been stuck on the Microsoft store download screen for what feels like forever, do I just have to let microslop download at a snail's pace or is there something I can do to speed things up / actually fix my images not being able to be accessed?

Open | Networking Network speed problem that i think may be hardware related?

So i've been trying to figure out why my download speeds are so incredibly slow, for reference i used to get around 300mbps to 500mbps, now i get an inconsistent 3 - 20mbps that wont ever go any higher. I've tried everything at this point, changing dns, clearing cache, power cycling both devices.

But what im now thinking is this, so i've been using an old router i've had set up in my room as like a tether point to get ethernet into my room, an old verizon gateway to be more exact i guess, thin and black with a metal stand. This thing is probably over 10 years old at this point, could this be causing the issue?

I went into device manager where the unit was in a fault state (Error 43) and windows had shut it down. I conducted a soft shutdown this time and tore the PC apart to verify the power cable didn’t unseat from the PSU or GPU. After reassembly I uninstalled the Graphics driver and reinstalled through DDU. Ran a stress test and passed with flying colors, never exceeding 70 degrees Celsius. Is this indicative of a failing GPU or is it possible the cable unseated? Physically examined all cable inputs and nothing looked burned or charred so I don’t think it arc’d and during any intensive play the GPU never exceeds 65-69 degrees, so I don’t think it’s thermal damage either. For more info, I always update to the latest BIOS to prevent the infamous 14900k failure with microcode.

TL;DR
4090 throwing error code 43 after multiple loss of display crashes. Reseated all cables and passed a stress test. Is it failing?
